Not a single ’I’m mad’ poster has given me even a copper of their stuff. They say they love the game, why don’t they give to the people that still play it.
C’mon, Guzzi. I could use some Ectoplasm, to Salvage into Dust.

Because your suppose to catch them prior to them quitting the game not afterward. Why would you reinstall and relog back into a game you no longer enjoy? It doesn’t really matter if he makes random people who still play the game happy or not if he isn’t gonna play the game anymore.
On a side note though if you give him a reason “worth” his time to relog in pretty sure youll be able to get that stuff
I’ve given up any hope of any positive reaction from Anet over any of our voiced concerns. I simply cannot expend any more energy hoping for improvement.
This isn’t so much a goodbye thread, as a well wishing to everyone who is still playing. I hope they finally fix all the havoc they have wrought.
All the best.
Good luck, Guzzi… I’ve felt that way myself way more than I should. Hate to see yet another old-timer go. It’s happened so much lately. Check back in from time to time (especially if you find something comparable but better supported that you’d like to share with us!) I won’t ask for your stuff. That was an old, stale joke the first time anyone said it. Besides, you can always come back (unless you delete your account entirely), and almost anything you have is probably account bound anyway.
Another Patch like the last two, and I’ll be right behind you.

Starting to think these posters are paid shills hired by Blizzard come to this forum to create imaginary havoc.
Nah, these people aren’t paid shills anymore than I am. They’re people who are legitimately disenfranchised.
They simply think that this is some special case and that every game doesn’t have people like them in numbers.
Not everyone is going to like a given game. That’s just logic. I don’t like WoW but I acknowledge there are people out there who do.
There are people out there who like Guild Wars 2 as well..but that doesn’t mean people who don’t aren’t on someone’s payroll. I suspect any game I end up enjoying won’t likely be one of the most popular games, because I seldom follow the herd.
Every single game that has a forum has threads where people who are leaving the game post and say why. The majority of these people are unhappy in some way with how the game has turned out. They post and explain how the game has failed their expectations and how it’s forcing them to go. Guild Wars 2 has these people also.
So, good bye OP. Have fun in your next game.

Yeah, pretty much.
They also tend to be people who were once avid fans and may be having some trouble walking out the door… for them, creating a thread can be like a final hope that something will magically keep them from leaving.
The ones who are plain disinterested tend to leave without a word.

wait, nvm
The ones who are plain disinterested tend to leave without a word.
Yeah, that’s what I do when I leave GW2 for a while, which is usually due to RL sapping my will to sit down and play. Or events conspiring so I can go:
“Hmm, I could sit with my brother and our friend and break out Settlers of Catan, or our MTG decks, or . . . I could sit in GW2 and farm the World Boss Grand Tour.”
I’ll give you two guesses which one I choose to do. The answer is, often, different depending on whether I work the next day.

The OP didn’t rant about how the game is dying. He/She calmly stated that they’re not happy with the game and there are legitimate reasons for that.
Guzzi, I hope you find a great game. I’m considering TSW, as it’s on sale again.
For the record, paid shills from opposing companies don’t have a posting history as thoroughly informed as the OP’s. Just some food for thought.

TSW has more than it’s share of complaints as well. It has a pretty strong core following but a lot of people got frustrated and left. Pretty much like every other MMO.

Because I’ve been on enough review sites to know how to spot fake reviewers. I translated that experience over to gaming forum, and my logic is that the point is to establish enough posts to seem legitimate and then just troll, hardcore, until you get banned. Rinse, wash, repeat. There might be some substance in some of the posts, but over a period of time, a shill isn’t going to spend that much time getting wrapped up in the competition. Just seems like common sense to me. But who knows? I’m sleep deprived right now.

I’m not talking about the OP. I’m responding to a comment by someone else which happens to be in this thread, I don’t know who the OP is and I don’t care. The game is “buy once, play forever,” so he is free to leave and come back whenever he wants.
I like TSW, I bought a copy a while back when it went to a buy once, play forever model too and even subbed for a bit for the bonus points. There are a lot of ideas GW2 could make use of, like the customizable skill bars and separating clothing items from stat items so you can change clothes at will but keep your stats the same, or vice versa.
I didn’t like the setting so much, though, essentially going from New England Zombies to Egyptian Zombies for three zones was too much zombie. There’s a lot of potential there but it becomes an awful grind after a while.

Guhracie – thanks for the tip on the sale! I just picked up the massive pack for £17. Looks like it may be the game to satisfy me until Cyberpunk 2077 is complete. I have always preferred modern/dark future RPG, and loved APB and Crimecraft, so it might be right up my alley.
Vayne – you hit the nail on the head with the word ‘disenfranchised’. Its a great way to describe how I feel. I poured hours upon hours of myself into this game, and I in no way regret that OR my several hundred pounds worth of spending in the gem store.
I don’t hate the game, rather I still love it, but I feel left out of the loop. I just don’t feel that I connect with it anymore. The April patch and the lack of response to criticisms and issues that arose from that have left me feeling like I don’t matter anymore.
CMM – would you like me to post my account login screens to prove I am a genuine 2-year-plus player?
Well, I certainly won’t be one to throw any stones, given I’ve had to leave other MMOs to get to here. Wish you the best of luck in finding another game that gives you as much (if not more) enjoyment as GW2 did, doesn’t stray too far from the qualities that you enjoyed, and luck in the next if it does!

I have a tendency to friend list players who make threads like this. I have around 300 listed. 230+ never stopped playing, or posting on the forums for that matter. So personally, I tend to chalk them up as simple threats, with the misconception of them thinking their opinions or claims about the game will get special attention. Personally I feel these type of threads should be mod deleted instantly. As they offer no actual bases of positive possible outcomes for discussion.

The MMO genre is much more diverse and competitive than it was when WoW climbed to the top of the mountain. Any company that wants to keep the servers on needs to identify their target market and focus on that market. This means that they are going to lose players who don’t fit into that market, but this is inevitable. Anet is focusing on the casual/noob market because they bring more cash to the table than the veteran who plays 10hrs a day.
Changes to the game were made to lower the barriers for new players to enter the game, if you are already familiar with the game or MMOs in general you are not their target market. Two years into the game most veterans have already seen it, done it, and moved on to something else. But there are a lot more video game players who have never played an MMO than those who have, and these people are Anet’s focus. If they lose 10,000 current players but gain 100,000 new players, the changes are a success. If you’re one of the 10,000 they lost, you will naturally disagree, but there are plenty of other games out there to try.

Take care Guzzi. I still log in to chat with few guild members, but there’s just not much to do other than that. I too hope that other people are having fun with the game.
Hopefully the new update will have some interesting features.
Problem is, Tolunart, is that I was 100% new to MMO’RPG’* when I came here, and I never needed the NPE despite not knowing anything about stats, rarity, traits, anything. I asked in chat to learn things, despite being socially reclusive, and enjoyed the experience. NPE turns an MMO into a single player game and people don’t learn that way.
But I see what you mean about target market. I guess veterans and player retention is not their target market. China is, it appears.
Yoroiookami – you have WAY too many vowels in your name :p

There are aspects of different video game genres that don’t change much from one game to the next. GW2 wasn’t my first MMO, Rift was, and even then I was generally able to figure things out as I went along. Before Rift I’d played a lot of fantasy RPG games, Morrowind to Neverwinter Nights to Baldur’s Gate on back to games like Zork and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and that game on the Atari 2600 where your character is a pixel carrying a sword or a key.
But my experience is not everyone’s experience. Millions of players were able to find their way around GW2’s world without much problem, true. But millions more couldn’t or didn’t even try. Anet gathers info from a lot of sources, not just the forums which tend to be visited by more experienced gamers – a lot of people playing the game don’t even know the forums exist, or how to post here.
While preparing the game to open in a new market (China) they probably examined existing accounts and found that maybe 20-30% of accounts from previous box sales were abandoned after an hour or two because players were confused or overwhelmed. And it’s not hard to dig up info that indicates a lot of casual gamers think that MMOs are only for no-life grinders who schedule their lives around raid nights and have to play 10+ hours a day to keep up.
With a huge untapped market there for the taking, they decided to simplify the beginning stages of the game to draw in more of these potential customers, at the cost of losing some veterans who are already moving on to other games, or will move on in the next year or two. Those who manage the company don’t have the luxury of being concerned with the next patch or what’s going on for Wintersday, they are looking at the profitability of the game two, five, ten years from now.
Anet is not unique. Trion did the same thing with Rift, a year or two into the game they simplified the tutorial zone you go through with a new toon. They offered free copies of the expansion with a 12-month subscription extension, then less than a year later they went free to play. They knew this would happen even as they prepared to sell the subs but didn’t talk about it. They expanded the cash shop and drew in new players at the expense of loyal veterans who got kittened by buying what they thought was a great deal.
CMM – would you like me to post my account login screens to prove I am a genuine 2-year-plus player?
Nah it’s all good, I was just thinking out loud, with my fingers of course. Maybe the new patch on Tuesday will have something that appeals to you, never know…
Attention seeker I would guess.
GuzziHero isn’t an attention seeker, s/he is a solid contributor to the community and I will miss him/her. But there are many reasons to burn out on a game or any hobby, and I appreciate it when someone who’s been part of the community experience gives a heads up as to their departure (when it’s calm and friendly like this one).
My guild had an officer who vanished overnight in the middle of RP plots in which he was an integral part. Completely poofed. We were sure he’d been hit by a car, we were frantic and trying to dig out emails, phone numbers, anything to find out what had happened — until he sheepishly wandered onto our forums something like a year later to say RL had gotten in the way and then he’d been too embarrassed to show his face. A simple “sorry, goodbye, I have crap going on that means I can’t game” would have meant the world to us.
Attention seeker I would guess.
And you would be wrong. Like the OP and responders who understand why he created the thread, pulling away from GW2 was hard but he was left with no other choice. Too bad we’ll never kmow how many players have left since the game went stagnate lare 2013.
Let’s face it: there is no expansion coming. Raids and guild halls, whenever they are done, will most likely release alongside the beginning or middle of the Living Story. Anet doesn’t have the resources to give us what we really want.
Don’t forget to give away all your stuff and delete your characters before uninstalling. Also might as well stop coming to the forums. I mean, if you quit for good, why would you care about anything related to the game anymore?
Attention seeker I would guess.
And you would be wrong.
Actually this thread is pure attention seeking. Those who argue are wholly wrong. It may not be the type of attention seeking you are thinking of but it still is attention seeking.

Pretty much this. People post good byes because in their minds they believe they are that important. I honestly don’t see the point in saying good bye to a bunch of strangers. I mean, if you walk into a wal-mart and say “good bye everyone! I’m never shopping here again!” Does that make sense?
Not to mention if you don’t wipe your account or stay on the boards and keep up to date on gw2, then you haven’t quit. You’re on hiatus just waiting till something comes to make you play again.

Ah the “It’s only the vocal minority” argument again. I remember that from back in the “Temporary content is bad for GW2” threads. Have a look https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Too-Much-Temporary-Content-Can-Only-Harm-GW2/page/3#post2380400 Eventually Anet did seem to agree likely based on the numbers they had themselves.
And it has been used in about any thread where people said something like they did see many people leave because the game was to boring / bad rewarding and so on. Then came the NPE patch witch Anet reason “Many people left even before hitting 80.”
You see the thing is, yeah the forum is only a part of the player-base and yes it will also not be a perfect representation but at the same time it does still give a pretty good picture of the complete player-base. That’s why in those previous examples it turned out that they where correct (or at least Anet did think they where correct based on there own numbers).
It just took Anet a little longer to come to that same conclusion and the solution was also not perfect but that might also be (especially with the NPE stuff) because they used there own solution in stead of listening to the forums. Maybe because they also did buy the “it’s only a vocal minority” excuse.

So anet looked at numbers and listened to the vocal minority on temp content. OK.
Now on to the NPE, where anet looked at the numbers, then apparently survived and got feedback from X amount of people on it. If anything, X would have to be a vocal minority too. And they based their changes on said vocal minority. But the forums vocal minority threw a fit and things had to be modified. Did the new npe work? Who knows. If it didn’t, anet takes the blame. But ask yourself this, if they listened to the forums, and implemented what they would have suggested and it still failed, do you believe that the forum people would take the blame? And believe it or not, there was something added to the game, was tested by players and had player feedback that was ready to be listened to. And we got the karma pve train in EotM. So listening to the forums isn’t always correct.
So, in essence, anet can look at numbers and talk to a vocal minority, but when forum posters are considered a vocal minority, and that vocal minority has different factions of vocal minorities wanting something different or some goal, who does anet listen to so as to not kitten off someone else?
The answer is: it doesn’t matter, someone will be mad. Anet can’t win with whatever they do to the game, someone will come to the forums and complain.
i think part of the problem is there is no noticable changes to GW2.
yes there is story up dates that come out …
but lets say u bought the game at launch and u took a break for over a year and came back … the olny noticable changes u would see is
1.a hand full of new traits
2.etom and dry top farm fest
3. some old pve maps that now look like they have been blown up
4.and a new set of armor/weapons u need to grind for
it would do the game good to see new classes and some advancements to wvw and pvp
some new dungeons
on a side note . i dont think etom ended up like anyone wanted.
they need to do something about the blobs
and pay some attention to the strategy that goes in to castle siege.
i dont think siege disabler was the answer
etom was to early for its time and because of it wvw is now lacking
if etom was not created servers would have balanced out
because people do not want to wait for queue time
and we would not have people talking about server merge

Where is all this havoc people keep talking about? Does it happen while I’m not playing?
Starting to think these posters are paid shills hired by Blizzard come to this forum to create imaginary havoc.
It’s happened, but it’s rare. Mostly it’s players with inflated egos who think that buying a single copy of the game make them majority shareholders. Some are trolls who will agree with any posts that cause disruption and chaos on the forums. And it involves a misunderstanding of the situation, not realizing that the “silent majority” don’t give a kitten about what’s happening on the forums and we represent the .01% of players at either extreme end of the spectrum.
For the most part what goes on here is ignored by the company because it simply doesn’t reflect the entire player base, only the most extreme views, including the

Because it is literally impossible to please everyone, the devs focus on those they can please and let the rest rant about how the game is dying while they continue to cash their paychecks.

True there will always be people who dislike a change. That was however not the point of what I was saying.
What I was saying is that the “it’s only a vocal minority” excuse to try and dismiss any thread they don’t agree on is simply not a valid one because as we have seen in the past the forum does in fact give an idea of what is going on. Not a perfect one but none the less an idea good enough to not dismiss it.
About the NPE changes, haven’t seen many (if any) people ask to lock skills behind levels and make easy hearths even more easy. I did see many other suggestions that have not been done (likely because it would mess up there model).
And the EotM was also pretty much designed when people where pulled in and personally I would not know how to improve that because of the way it is designed.
i think part of the problem is there is no noticable changes to GW2.
yes there is story up dates that come out …
but lets say u bought the game at launch and u took a break for over a year and came back … the olny noticable changes u would see is
1.a hand full of new traits
2.etom and dry top farm fest
3. some old pve maps that now look like they have been blown up
4.and a new set of armor/weapons u need to grind forit would do the game good to see new classes and some advancements to wvw and pvp

It mainly needs stuff to works toward in the game and more fun things to do in the world that also help you connect to the world. For that last traditional quest would do a better task then the events do and the first can be done with more fun crafts and better rewards in the game.
Last week I was in another game some of my time and the first thing that came up in my mind to do was getting that cool mini I never got before. In this case it was a boring farm (not a grind for gold) but none the less I farmed the mobs that dropped it and had it after about 2 hours. (farmed 2 times 1 hour).
When doing something else I also did see another very cool mini so I checked how to get that and it turned out I had to do some quest for that so did those. Had fun doing the quest and ended up with the mini. Did some of the Halloween stuff and have my sights up for a mount I would like to get in the future (earnable in a raid dungeon). Also planning on exploring some new maps and with exploring I then do not mean running by a list of way-points, vista’s, hearts and PoI’s striping of a list. No I just go into the map and go to an NPC with a nice quest chain. I learn something about the npc’s and explore the world like I want to do it.
I also want to go on with the craft because there are some cool things to create with it.
So there is a lot of stuff that keeps you going. There is more you want to do then you can possibly do.
Now compare that to GW2. If I did see a cool mini that I would like to have it’s likely only available behind a gold grind (mainly because Anet makes money by selling that sort of stuff), just as the second and the third mini. Exploring maps is striping of a list of places you need to run by and events don’t tell you much about the npc’s living there or give you any connection to the world. The crafts, except for the newly added backpacks why would I want to do them? Only reason would be for the legendary and ascended stuff. So then I first need to grind my way to 400 / 500 to finally do what I might want to do.
They need to change this approach of gring grind gind with a more fun way to get really good / fun items and making you connect more with the world.
The LS is nice when you are really into the lore / story of the world but of most mmo’s I played I do not even know the story because I don’t care and also in GW2 I did not even complete the PS (I want to but can’t be bothered) so in that sense the LS does not add much for anybody who in not really into the story.
They need to come with new content but also need to approach these things. They do know something is wrong and try to fix that with the NPE but it looks like they fail to see what is wrong or they try to work around the problem without harming there current model what is close to impossible.
a cool mini will not keep most people interested in a game though.
yes it is a nice reward but a mini is a mini and that is no more than a skin that floats around your character XD

True. Add other skins and fun items to it. The game is build around cosmetics.

It’s odd that you quote my post and then make this statement, because I have never posted in that thread. I think my link is more informative:
“While Unpleasable Fanbase has been a problem for any media with a sufficiently large fanbase (you simply cannot please all of the people all of the time), in the Internet Age it takes on a new dimension when even a small minority can make their opinions heard.”
The subject comes up a lot because it’s true. One person making a lot of noise can sound like a hundred. There have even been confirmed examples of someone creating multiple identities on a forum to support his side of an argument, or to give himself enemies to defeat and “turn to the light side,” thus proving himself correct.

You know, I always wanted to ask people who leave what are they going to play if not GW2.
The only times I’ve stopped playing guild wars 2 was to either “try out” another MMORPG and send it to hell for not living up to my expectations or play LoL, hearthstone, starcraft2…. games from different genres, that is.
And, well…
Problem is, Tolunart, is that I was 100% new to MMO’RPG’* when I came here, and I never needed the NPE despite not knowing anything about stats, rarity, traits, anything. I asked in chat to learn things, despite being socially reclusive, and enjoyed the experience. NPE turns an MMO into a single player game and people don’t learn that way.
But I see what you mean about target market. I guess veterans and player retention is not their target market. China is, it appears.
