Your server choice only matters in World vs. World. You can do everything else together.

if they transfer to your home world (server) then you can go to wvw together.

If you dont mind about wvw then you have nothing to worry about.

Megaservers is a system that puts you in a zone with other players that are
1) from your own home world
2)from your guild
3)from your friends list
4)current party members

so even if you and your friends are from different servers you are still able to play together.. However in wvw you defend your home world, they defend their home world

also if you join a party with your friends and dont see them, right click on one of your friends and join instance

WvW is really all that is influenced by your server choice anymore.
But if you really want to be on the same server, your friends need to log in at a time when few people are active on your server, like three in the morning, and then seen if your homeworld can be selected. Worked for me, I picked my server at five am^^

If you want to be able to play WvW together, then you need to be on the same server, and basically the only way to do this is through patience and persistence.

If you’re not so concerned about WvW, then just make sure they’re on a server in the same region (NA or EU) and you’ll be fine.

Patience? its jade quarry I understand it’s one of the main servers but there has to be something that can be done. And I’ve played this game since beta and in all reality wvw and pvp is pretty much end game.

The only way is to wait for the server to not be full.

People transfer to different servers all of the time. ANet also periodically raises caps. The best times to catch the server not being full is during off hours when transfers to the server slow down.

And if any of your friends do not care to do WvW or do not mind not being on the same server, then server choice doesn’t matter.

I’ve tried all times and pretty much everything to get these accounts on jade quarry is always full. And I mean always.

Try all times of the night.

No, seriously, you’re not going to get in if you’re trying to get into the server when everyone else on your side of the pond is awake. I’ve found that any time after 3am EST makes it easier to get in.

Even if you were to change servers, your friends list would remain the same and you wouldn’t be kicked out of your guild or anything like that. The only thing that a server effects game-wise is WvW.

If your friends are having trouble getting onto the server, try joining at some random time at night (like 4 in the morning, or some time when most people in your region would be asleep.) It’s what I had to do in another MMO in order to join the same server as my friends.
