GW2 is a game that has me in a state where I sometimes absolutely like some additions or a feature in the game, while at other times it has me hating it for making stupid decisions.

The Personal Story is one thing that had me feel like I was a failure. My friends either ditched me, died or took the spotlight, where in GW1 I had friends that helped me, but I wasn’t the only one with a team, and for those of you who’ve played it, you’ll know that it is Mhenlo that I’m talking about here.
- GW2’s personal story has a lot of potential, but they’ve not been going all in on it. I mean, it definitely had moments that I enjoyed it and wanted to get more into the lore, but in the end, when I finally reached the end, it was nothing more than some minor part of what I cared about in this game.
- I hope to see improvements to future personal story moments, maybe even some rework on this one, but definitely a thing that they should look into.

The combat is another thing. I resumed my RP with a friend on WoW and I’ve been wanting to log in to GW2 more since then, and I have been doing just that actually, because yeah, the combat of GW2 is more dynamic and fun… but it is also frustrating since people don’t really try to organize themselves and do some neat combo skills.
- In WoW I went into the Black Citadel with a bunch of lvl 80’s. We never finished the first boss because they wanted to zerk, but the raid didn’t reward zerging but rather team play and skill – Raids were for those who had the skill to do them, not zerks!
- I’ve had some nice moments with friends, where we’ve done some cool combo crossing combat in GW2, and when you actually go down to that structured but fast-paced level of gameplay, GW2 probably offers the most fun in terms of combat that I’ve ever experienced from any MMO.
- Then there was the queen’s champions out in the Open World, who’d have so many knockdown abilities that my dodge or stability skills were useless, and no one likes to watch as their character helplessly gets beaten to a pulp, without any way of countering it (I think WildStar offers a great solution to this problem, for those of you who are not in the habit of being overly attached fanboys to any particular game at one time).

The Living Story have had some nice moments, I really digged the Lost Shores one time event, but maybe that was because I ended up with two precursors, I don’t know.
- It felt like something special, such a one time event.
The Flame and Frost was another one that started out slow but with the Razing and Retribution really shone through.
- Right now, however, the Living Story is little more than “Oh, lets see if they’ve actually improved something or gotten better at making this stuff… aaaaand disappoint.”
- Don’t get me wrong, I like the concept of it, and I don’t mind getting updates every two weeks with new features and such, but I feel that they’ve got to get those mechanics under control first, improve their dungeons and what not.
- The story of the Living Story is more like “These people, whom you didn’t meet on your journey through Tyria at all – like the Aetherblades – are suddenly here and attacking.”
- Are they all just hiding, all trying to figure out a plot to take over Tyria or have they actually been a part of our travels, where we have seen how they got corrupted. Just something other than these bad introductions… First impressions are everything (and that personal nemesis… I don’t want Scarlet to be that, if that is the plan, ANet).

So, all in all, I like GW2, I think it raised the bar of what we can expect from MMO’s, especially that Pay-to-play MMO’s really needs to have something unique to offer and has to keep a high quality of content to compete with these.
- However, I can’t help but feel that GW2 wastes a lot of time and resource on content that is not really helping (Living, breathing world? I don’t do the LS content, and the Open world just doesn’t change… maybe making LS content that changes things would help to that effect. Something more drastic than adding some DE’s that just blend in rather than change anything). I’m still looking forward (and I mean a lot) to Elona and Cantha and the rest of the zones which we have yet to see in Tyria.

The first problem with the LS’s plot is that it’s too restrictive. They need to change their philosophy on it not interfering with your PS. Kill Jennah, make Anise a villain, just forget about the PS.

Yes, it’ll change the experience for new players who havn’t done their PS, but until they do that, the LS plot would be laughable at best.
