It can cost even more, but if someone want to play pvp/wvw without do pve stuff its one of the best way to get ascended armor.
Why are these grand master marks so expensive to craft?? I thought the whole point of introducing ascended gear vendor was to cheap/reward-able way to get ascended without having to spend a lot of gold… yet you end up spending so much gold through these grand master marks… It ends up costing the same imo.
Someone did the math months ago and it cost less from the vendors.
Ascended vending is not intended to be the optimal path for acquiring ascended gear, but rather a way for players to acquire the gear through time spent playing their preferred game mode.

If cost is the only consideration, then:
- For most 3-stat combinations, go with standard crafting.
- For some 4-stat combinations, GM Mark crafting will be cheaper.
However, there are other considerations. HoT-stats require Fulgurite — if you don’t have the means to make it, then GM Marks is far quicker for you. Other differences:
- GM Mark method uses 20 of each T6 ‘fine’ mat, whereas traditional uses 120 crystal dust and a bunch for the stat. The blend is easily acquired via e.g. laurels and is the same regardless of chosen stat.
- GM Mark method uses fewer T2-4 basic mats and more T5, which might be easier for some people to acquire.
- GM Mark doesn’t use any T7 mats, which, again, might be easier for some people.
Thus, if all things are equal (and they so seldom are, of course), GM Mark method will be nearly always more convenient and, at worst, roughly the same cost.
So if I had infinite numbers of fractal pages and/or PvP ascended shards, I’d use the GM Mark method every time. Since I don’t, I’ll reserve the marks for the most annoying stats (e.g. Minstrel’s) and use traditional for core stats.

Grandmaster Marks+vendor costs roughly the same as crafting the item outright because it’s supposed to be an alternative and not flat-out easier.
Like precursor crafting, but less stupid because it’s crafting+gameplay vs crafting and not crafting vs an arbitrary TP price.
Just play pvp? You get to do something fun and you get them for playing (chests) win or lose.
I was actually hoping we could sell or salvage these since I have no need as a pvper.
