Q:

If no one has read please see Grants post under news and announcements… now onto my rant.

Ascended vending is not intended to be the optimal path for acquiring ascended gear, but rather a way for players to acquire the gear through time spent playing their preferred game mode. And while ascended vending now requires max level crafting, players that obtain ascended gear via vending will see a moderate discount in cost over traditional crafting.

And then there are people like me that just don’t like farming, crafting or fractals not to mention I can’t hang onto my gold. I found recent love of PvP and it was nice to get a second set of ascended gear after fours years and finally deciding to max tailoring and finally crafting 1st set.

It took me probably the same amount of time to get the 2nd set of gear through PvP as it would take to farm and craft (I hate farming). I would rather do something better with the time I play than farm and craft.

I was thinking the same thing. Crafting is a different “game mode” itself, in that it is an optional playstyle that is not otherwise required and not universally appealing. I’ve ignored it on all of my characters except my main because I hate it, and I only did what I did on my main because I wanted a sense of completion (which I gave up on because of how much of a sheer wall the Ascended crafting was).

I gotta say I’m disappointed by this announcement but its probably for the best in the long run. Still though, I wonder how large this “moderate” discount will be if we opt to buy ascended gear.

hehe you got me there. I don’t really think of it as a whine. but lets look at a few points:

Fractals junkie: 50+ fractal you can get a chest drop or buy
PvP Season: Takes some time but you can get a set of gear and very rare but a chest drop
Raider junkie: Can buy or get drops
PvE: Crafting and very rare can get a drop from Teq for weps and armor from Triple Trouble. No opportunity to purchase unless doing another game mode.

So if anything the change favors PvE to craft since making harder for other game modes. The keyword is GAME MODE. You don’t make tons of gold from PvP so to make gold you will have to do other game modes? I am a PvE’r since start but having found WvW and PvP being more fun to me than expected this is currently my game mode with the exception of the occasional Teq or TT.

I do understand that Ascended gear should not be given away without work as it is something that is special to game play. PvE is the hardest way to get if not doing raids or fractals. I guess we’ll just have to see what these changes really are about when implemented.
