Graphics card driver update question

I’ve noticed when installing graphic card driver updates, sometimes the newer drivers seem to not work as well as the older drivers. I’m wondering, if thats the case and not just my imagination, how would one know which driver to upgrade too ?

The latest update for NVIDIA is driver 337.88 which I tried. I noticed, at times, the screen would blink out and in a few seconds, reappear. This seemed odd to me, since it wasn’t happening before. So I reinstalled the previous driver and the problem went away, so I’m thinking it had to be the driver update.

If this is the case, what would be the best way to know what driver to install when an update is released ?

Thanks to anyone that can answer this one for me.

You might try the Tech Support sub-forum, or the forums for the graphics cards you wish to update.

Good luck.

Ah Okay, maybe the mods will move this thread to tech support.

My personal opinion is that NVidia just release crappy drivers all day long, Each time i had tried an NVidia card i had spent days testing different driver versions until i found the one with the lowest bugs. Had to go over 10 numbers back until i got rid of the Bluescreens i had constantly in Age of Conan on 64-Bit Vista at that time.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

OP providing your system specs would help your issue a bit more.

Nvidia drivers tend to be hit or miss, took them to 6 months to fix an issue with 400/500 series.

I’m going to update to 337.88 myself later today to check out the new shader cache. Will reply back as soon as I do.

Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40 GHz

Installed memory (RAM) 8.00 GB

and I’m currently running a NVIDIA 650 TI graphics card.

According the GW2 requirements, I’m over the minimum requirements. I also ran the CAN YOU RUN IT test and passed.

The game runs smooth I just noticed what I mentioned and found it to be odd. I know sometimes these things also happen with game updates as I am no new mmo player.

Looking forward to your reply after you update.

Ok so I installed it a few minutes after my first message.

The game has been running for me, no blinks or anything unusual than my previous ones (332.21).

Did you install the new drivers using Geforce Experience? I’ve read that quite a few people had trouble installing the 337.88 with it.

When I update my drivers I always do a clean install following this order:

Uninstall Physx Driver

Uninstall HD Audio Driver (and reboot the system)

Uninstall Graphics Driver (and the reboot the system again)

Then I reboot again in safe mode and run a free program called Driver Fusion to remove any leftovers from the old drivers. When done I reboot again in normal mode and start installing the new drivers.

When Installing new drivers I always tick the “Perform Clean Install” option and install only the – Graphics Drivers, Physx and HD Audio components. Personally I don’t need the rest.

Lastly, it’s hard to get perfect working drivers across every system in the world. The latest drivers don’t always mean they’re the best. If you’re fine with the older drivers then maybe you don’t need to update yet.

My System Specs:

CPU – i5 2400
Ram – 8GB
GPU – EVGA GTX 760
OS – W7 64bit

Yes I did use Geforce. I will try what you’ve suggested and see what goes down. I’m assuming your EVGA GTX 760 is a more powerful graphics card than my 650 TI.

I appreciate your help.

Oh yeah, I’m running windows 7 as well.
