Great Sword vs
I’d hold off until I was level 80 and then get a level 80 weapon. Unless I was rich beyond the dreams of avarice, in which case I’d buy both.
First of all, I would wait with getting new sword until you are level 80, and get a level 80 sword. Since level 80 is the highest level, lvl 80 sword is also the best sword you can get. So spening your money on a lvl 78 sword is a bit of a waste =(
You want to have a golden sword (not yellow), beside the TP you can get it from dungeon tokens. You get a bunch of them (dungeon specific) after completing an explorable path of a dungeon. Or you can craft one yourself. For that you need to be lvl 400 in weaponsmithing, and you can buy the relevant receipts(sic?) from a merchant nearby for karma.
When you craft, is does not have a sigil in it. The ones you can buy from dungeon tokens do have a sigil, but that one is not too useful, so feel free to replace it.
Considering the stats, that all depends on your build. As a rule of the thumb I would suggest to go with the stats that you also invested in with your traits.
I hope this somewhat answers your questions/concerns
Yeah .. wait till 80 .. else statwise i would go for the first since you barely do any condition damage beside maybe a little bleed from a trait.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Wait till lvl 80. You’re a warrior, the easiest profession to level with by far, and leveling isn’t exactly hard in this game.
Just have A greatsword. At lvl buy a lvl 80 exotic (only, don’t waste money on items bellow lvl 80 and bellow exotic rarity) when you can. Your first buy should probably be with Berserker’s stats – Power/Precision/Critical Damage, but that depends on your gear.
Oh look, another greatsword user. What’s that? He’s using a two handed sword? He must be cool! That or compensating. Save up until you’re level 80 and go full zerker like everyone else does if you so desire.
Get a level 80 exotic when you hit level 80. If you’re 78, you’re probably about 2 hours of play away from 80 – those last few levels seem to to go absurdly fast.
As for stats – buy the one complimenting your build most.
My warrior has never used greatsword after about level 5 (I unlocked the skills and then vendored it) – so I’m fuzzy on whether or not there is much condition damage in there for a warrior, but I don’t think so. That condition one is likely meant for rangers and mesmers.
If you’re doing a lot of condition attacks, you want condition damage.
If you’re going for burst damage direct attacks, you want total ‘power’ score to be at 2000, and then stack crit chance (precision) and crit damage from there.
If you find you’re taking too much damage – I suggest boosting toughness or vitality, but usually in the armor with the weapons more straight DPS. However whichever is easier to replace works… Armor score above 2700 suffers an accelerating DR, but is still useful for gaining threat over others (armor and DPS both count for threat, but armor counts more).
- ‘zerkers’ on the other hand, go for minimum armor and try to get somebody else to be the one who suffers hits.
Vitality is a good way to shoot for more survival but with lower threat – but comes at the cost of needing more healing to bring yourself back to full. On the other hand, condition damage ignore armor, so vitality is good if facing off against a lot condition attacks (if this was WvW and you wanted to build a character that was a ‘bunker buster’ vitality would help survive against bunker-rangers, I -think-. I lack enough WvW experience to be sure).
Stacking -both- vitality and toughness starts to be wasting your damage output if overdone, but some of it is handy – soldier’s armor. Note how soldier’s armor gives Power first, and has the toughness and vitality as secondary to keep it from being -too much- of a DPS hit.
JAH Bless – Equal Rights and Justice for all.
Justice And Honor – Tarnished Coast.

Another great sword user? I think it’s a good weapon. Admittedly a lot of people do use it but that’s probably because they have high damage and can get really nice skins for them. What would you recommend?
Thanks for the tips, I’ll wait ’till 80 and invest in crafting

My very elegant condi mesmer says hello. ( female, staff main weapon) @ Op: do not pick GS because you think it is required, pick it only if you like it. Ultimately pick what you find most fun to play. As for the stats snd sigils you really have to decide how you want to build your character to see what would suit you best. As everyone has said, wait until you are 80- at this point you will just throw your money away. Have fun:)
I have a 80 Warrior and I mostly run with the Axe/Warhorn and Rifle though sometimes for variety I replace the Rifle with Axe/Shield or Axe/Mace. The GS is great but I find the mentioned to work extremely well too.

Seriously man, get off your high horse. GS is one of the best options for a warrior right now. It isn’t his fault.
I would read up on the following:
If you are not going for all zerker all the time, but are mixing in other gear, don’t get the zerker GS for crit dam. You are “paying” 123/9 ~ 13.66 attribute points per 1%. If you get the exotic zerker amulet you only “pay” 79/8 ~9 points per 1%. 55/6 and 63/6 for earring and ring, respectively.
If your current weapon is completely out of date, like a lvl60 weapon, just buy a green one from the TP. Get the cheapest, ignore stats pretty much, as you’ll buy a new one when you hit 80.

Don’t invest in crafting. It’s a complete and utter waste. You only save a couple of silver by crafting a weapon over buying it straight off the TP, and you’ll spend 15-20g just getting to a high enough crafting level to make something. Since most people don’t change their Lv80 exotic weapons all that often, you will never, ever meet your return on your investment.
Go run all three paths of the AC Explorable dungeon and you’ll be at Lv80. Then just go buy your weapon off the TP.

Aye op, what she said. I run a S/S warrior with a hybrid build of Knight’s/Soldier’s gear, I rip things apart and take very little damage, hell; I get jumped by rapid hordes of karka and still live to tell the tale.
Also, @Rhysat; I prefer the exact opposite. I’m tired of everyone conforming to the one “Holy build”, people should do what they like, not because it’s “the right way” but rather “because it’s fun”, but he likes wielding a two hander then good for him! As long as he’s having fun that’s all that matters, after all this is a game/story not a guide to fixing a car.

as to the stat combinations: get the stats that suit your build best. do you even deal conditions? (bleed, confusion, burn, poison) if not, don’t get any item with condition damage.
as to the previous people who recommend level 80: I’ve seen it suggested to use full level 78-79 gear to minimize cost, especially when transmuting (level 79 requires the easy-to-get transmutation stone, while level 80 requires the uber-rare transmutation crystal)
level 80 greatsword:
995-1100 Damage
179/128/128
level 79 greatsword:
980-1083 Damage
176/126/126
that’s only 32 damage and 7 stats difference. If that is that important to you, then you should also have the costly infusions in your ascended rings and accessories (the ones with +5 AR and +5 stat) instead of the cheap laurel +4 stat ones.
