I just want to toss in a simple question – how do you feel about greatsword skins? I just ask because I think they are just too broad and thus-weird…I mean, really, if I play for example sylvari, 50% of the greatswords are broader than me and it looks silly (Vigil greatsword – best example)
Am I alone in this one, or are there also others with same opinion in this one? I personally would love to see more greatswords that look…I don´t know…more realistic? What do you think?

I think you should use a starter skin.

And no, it doesn’t bother me. If you claim 50% of the greatswords are too broad for you, then there’s always the other 50% you can pick from.

I like realistic looking weapons too. My favorites for greatswords are the krytan gs, the gw longsword they ported in, and the ac greatsword. I think the ac sword is my favorite until it gets the blue shader on it at night time then I switch weapons. Haven`t seen any others I like besides those.

I avoid the paddle-looking swords. They just seem stupid.

On the bright side, I have no reason to waste time on legendary greatswords.

Don’t see many of them as being too wide. I actually think there are too many that are too thin (like the Ebon GS).

There aren’t a whole lot of Greatswords that I like, though there are a lot that I’d love with one minor change. Got the AC GS on my Norn Warrior and Priory GS on my Charr Guardian.

The Vigil Greatsword does look stupid, not so much because of the blades width, but it’s extremely disproportionate hilt.

I think the proportion compared to the hilt is what we’re talking about here. If the proportions remained unchanged you’d… just get a bigger sword.

I agree to an extent. I feel that pretty much all the weapons and armor are kinda generic. Skins is the name of the game. This is the selling point because everyone wants to look nice. They should have a dedicated staff whose only purpose is to make skins. This is how they get their investment back.

Also there should be a armor viewer on this site so that people can view and look for the pieces that they want…my bad if there is one lol.

I like GS, especially the Ascalonian one.

Greatsword skins are the best weapon skins in the game, because you have such a wide choice of different styles. You can have a long sword, a broad sword, or a shorter greatsword.

The 2 I have used the most were the Jotun Greatsword (the one that pours out snow mists when in attack mode) and the one I’m using now is the level 80 Sylvari Cultural GS for my Sylvari ranger ( I like the hilt with it’s vines and the glass shard that acts as the blade part)

You can view all the different armor sets/weapon sets at the pvp locker in the mists. Might not be every single one, but I think it is. And if you wanna check out some armors online, a good little site is www.gw2armor.com it doesnt have everything, but it has alot to look at.

I have a massive Norn Guardian and my greatsword is the size of 2 humans.

I hope I soon will be able to get a really beautiful Katana. My all-time favorite weapon. It’s so elegant and graceful, yet horrible sharp.

My current favorites in the game;

Ghastly Greatsword (great attention to detail)
Ebon Blade (purchased for 9800 Karma in Ebonhawk)
Khrysaor, the Golden Sword (looks like a Roman Gladius)

I agree, half of the GS look more like Warhammers because of how broad they are, a shame because those swords would look great if they would have a normal size.

they’re the best looking weapons in the game, IMO, and there are are flavors for everyone. big, wide ones, sleek ones, curved ones…

i dunno, im Ele so i don’t use em atm, but they are pretty wide but i think it’s kinda cool! I personally prefer swords that have some sort of cool skin, like a flaming one, or one that has a red glow ect. Idk many people have different preferences. this was a pointless post. i apolgise.

I have Orrian GS, looks very special with a tentacle and water dripping effect.

Everything else is awesome though, Anet doesn’t care about other weapons.

I love my smoky Greatsaw to death. This game needs more oversized, gratuitously ostentatious greatswords.

There are a lot of awesome greatsword skins in the game, my favorites are the Ghastly Greatsword and the Corrupted Avenger. I have a Corrupted Avenger on my female Norn Guardian – very fitting – I love it.

Imo the GS skins are a highlight of GW2. There are just so many interesting and great designs compared to the other weapons, its no wonder they are so popular. I just love the majestic GS skin. It isn’t too over the top and the elegant attention to detail is amazing.

I don’t like the majority of them one bit. They are WAY to wide. It’s a sword for heaven’s sake, not a diving board! Especially annoying if you know anything about real weapon use, you would understand that the myth of the huge chopping sword is a crime. There are a few good ones though. The Aureate Gsword, Ebonhawke and Human T2 swords are all very good. AC sword is a nice look but a bit wide for my tastes. Most of the rest are comical. Literally. They belong in Anime.

All weapons in game looks amazing, just i would love more skins for staffs.

To each his own i guess. I’ve been searching for a really gigantous sword and i’m having a hard time looking for one. Trust me there are a lot of thin gs out there. Scimitar, starter gs, etc. I really want to get the vigil gs. I just want to know if it has any particle effect? Or rather what gs have particld effects? I know jotun and AC gs have one

I like them. They remind me of redonk anime swords.

I’d suggest the Warden great sword if you like the sylvari. It’s not overly huge and it’s pretty well designed in my opinion.

Btw, this is what i love about greatswords in GW2…

My opinion? Anything wider than the Fellblade legacy HoM skin is too wide.

There’s real, there’s “rule of cool”, and there’s just plain silly. Trying to slice up your enemies with a coffee table is the last one.

nooooo, the godskull GS looks like this sword, which, yes, is the precursor sword to the one i showed before :P

GS skins are pretty good imo. They should have spent more time on the others weapons, as a ranger i prefer GS because they got a better skin than every bow, and i won’t speak about the difference between legendary gs & legendary bow huhu. Still Rangers with GS look nice

I think he was referring to something more like a Samurai sword which would look amazing on some characters.

I love my GS
The Staffs in the game needs some love and although I like mine but I am not in love yet
I was going for an all over elegant look instead of anime.

There are alot thinner greatswords. On my Warrior i have the Naga Fang which looks amazing. AC greatsword looks great aswell.
