Grief that annoys me
Just Waypoint to an area full of friendlies or climb to somewhere that you can’t draw aggro at all. BOOM problem solved!
Or simply quit to the character screen while you’re AFK and log back in afterward.
And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”
That would be abused so badly, it’s not even funny.
In a dungeon on a boss fight? Invul-AFK till someone can draw the boss off you. Or the opposite. Get aggro then Invul-AFK the rest of the fight while everyone else does damage. It would be abused so much if they added that kind of feature.
Like Son of Elias said, log out. If you are going to be afk, or if you know you might go afk, log out at your position or in a safe spot. This way you don’t have to worry about griefers kiting stuff to you.

Go to the Mists. Two clicks and youre there, its really not a lot of work to make sure you dont die. Two clicks and youre back where you were. Non-issue in my opinion.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
You shouldn’t be afking in an area where monsters can easily get to you. Either go to character select, log off or waypoint to a safe place.
Sometimes you do find yourself in a situation where you don’t have the two seconds it takes to log off. Like when abducted by aliens or during an FBI raid on your house or if your wife tazes you for playing too much and you pass out and wake up and you drooled on your keyboard and to top it off all your kitten is broke!
Seriously are you a goldseller or what? This sounds like something that somebody that afk macros would ask for, and nobody else would ever need.
how about afking in Heart of the Mist? or Lion’s Arch? Costs nothing to get there.

Um, did you read where I said your character is put into stasis, meaning nothing changes for them while in AFK mode, which would include not attacking. I’m just a player who sometimes has to go AFK and gets annoyed at coming back to a repair bill.

Problem with this is while nothing is attacking me, I am often in combat (makes vistas a pain) so can’t teleport at will unless I go kill something before hand, so I am left with logging out or quickly run to a quiet spot.

Simple, make it so nothing can target you, friend or foe, and be invulnerable incase some sod pulls a foe to you that does aoe.

That’s just it tho, why are you going afk so often? Normal players aren’t forced to afk in dangerous locations often enough or for long enough for this to be an issue. The only situation I can think of that would require you to leave yourself logged on in dangerous locations often enough for this to be an issue is if you were afk macroing. or botting.
The AFK invulnerable would be abused by players wanting to bypass patrols. Champ mob coming my way, AFK, Champ moves through me and out of agro range, un-AFK and move along.

Lets see, reasons why I (semi)AFK …
1. kids … if you are a parent with more than a couple of kids you know how hectic it can be at times.
2. forums … I’ll check forums for topics that interest me between doing stuff in game
3. Housework, sometimes I’ll part play part housework
4. youtube … someone will post me something to look at and I’ll get side tracked
5. social media … sometimes friends who aren’t playing will want to chat
6. quickly do something while I remember
7. combinations of the above
Assuming that I bot or macro just because I AFK a lot is just plain wrong, I have a busy life at home and GW2 fills in the gaps.
AFK invuln rezzer…
I absolutely see no reason for anet to add such a feature. It would be abused.
Takes all of 3 seconds to go into heart of the mists. Seems like you’ve conveniently ignored the posts that ask why not do this when it’s a perfectly fine solution.
besides your first reason, the rest are 1. optional 2. non-urgent.
sounds like afk macros to me (with better english than previous posters who asked for the exact same thing)

That would be the same thing as what would happen in my first scenario. Someone is starting to die to a boss in a dungeon, so they use the Invul-AFK to make the boss no longer target them so they can recover. It would be constantly abused.
And like was said above. People would use it to bypass mobs or to drop aggro when trying to run through mobs.

I do not understand why you guys are assuming AFK macro when I’m asking something that would mean nothing could happen while AFK, including recovering.
Example: I’m at 10% health, I set AFK, I cant heal/move/attack, my health stays at 10%, until I set myself as back.
How does that turn into AFK macro, seriously
Sounds like he wants an Eternal Ash Legion Spy Kit that keeps you stealth’d and invulnerable until you deem it unnecessary.
afk mesmer in enemy keep in WvW? Why yes please.
If you’re out of combat, takes 1 second to drop to char select.
If you’re in combat, no, you shouldn’t have an ability to become invincible while in combat. The reason should be apparent.
i do this whole the time i can, and constantly ress them, especially in wvwvw
Why is everyone assuming something bad, yes maybe I need more thought into it but basically something that says I’m AFK, my character state is frozen , cant be attacked and can’t do anything including heal/res/attack/etc … exclude WvW and make it PVE only.
That way if like now where I am in an outpost, and checking the forums, no harm shall come to me just because I got pre-occupied elsewhere.

How about an option for a popup to accept a rez, that needs to be clicked during the rez… that might work?
I do not understand why you guys are assuming AFK macro
Because there are already has several simple solutions that have been pointed out and you continue to ignore. That makes it obvious your request is for a secondary purpose. The only scenario where a person would have to afk often in dangerous locations and risk dieing repeatedly would be afk macroing. Any reasonable person would just enter the mist to afk or just log out.
The time it takes to click [Enter the Mist] or to press [escape], and click [log out] is so insignificant I don’t see how any feature that you have to click to activate could possibly be faster or save you any measurable amount of time over what’s been suggested so far.
ok, one reason I don’t like going to character select screen is it heats up my computer more than in game … according to the apple activity monitor, GW2 cpu usage @ character select screen is 131.2 … map loading it goes as high as 189.3 (maybe higher but thats the highest I just saw it go) in game it is at 104.2.
I have 2 factor auth so logging out completely just for short AFK’s would become annoying.
I will try the mysts option since its going to a map it shouldn’t heat up my computer as much as character select screen.
And what temperature are you refering to? C or F? If its F its not very much, that means around 50C, if its 130+C then its different.
Also doubt its C… up at nearly 200C on loading screen? Boiling point is at 100C, you could bake a cake on your computer or make a small dinner with it if it reaches 200C.
Use a Hall of Monuments stone(anyone can get one) to whisk you away to the HoM. Then go back through the HoM portal to exactly where you left off.
Log out or pick a better way point.
I 100% admit to killing folks this way. Sorry but I have run by a waypoint dragging a mob(s) behind me. I won’t stop to save you while you are afk at a waypoint.
You are in a bad spot, should not be there.

Two easy fixes for you:
1) Log out or go somewhere safe (already mentioned and ignored)
2) Take off your armor. At least then it won’t cost you more than it does to teleport to the nearest waypoint to get going again. (Or, if you’re real cheap, ask someone to revive you).
Best option: #1. But, you’ll continue to ignore it, I’m sure.

OK this is jumping from one reason to the next now.. first a busy hectic schedule requiring constant AFK’s and now its due to overheating of CPU when loading the game up.. cmon please.. if your PC is igniting on load up, then maybe switch off Youtube, Facebook, MSN, interweeb forums rtc etc to reduce your loading, .. this will also reduce the constant impacting such programs have on your gameplay… kids,, well my 2 like yours are time intensive – - SO LOG OUT, spend some time with them then come back when your hectic schedule hits a gap filler – - SIMPLES!!
“Hey, know what annoys me? Going into the jungle and getting mauled by bears just because I left my character alone. ANet should really fix that.”
Message me any time in game.
Play the game when kids sleep. Play with the kids when they are awake. Please.
I have two kids. I loathe gamer parents who choose the intrrweb and cyberspace as soon as the necessary stuff is done. Give them Quality time
Ask your kids: what does mommy/daddy do at home?
(fyi im in bed sick today, hence so many visits on the web :p)

They think you are a bot who got stuck somewhere and are killing you repeatedly because of that.
Answer: Character select screen.
Safe areas are not safe anymore… someone pulled a vet karka to the under new management JP area to grief all the JP doers. I waypointed there to get a nasty surprise as my machine was still loading me and rendering the area.
The text box is me calling for help to remove it.
Still not a single argument as to why he can’t go to the Heart of the Mists. No CPU overheating there judging from what you’ve said.
My machine is 93F on the HD and 153 F on the other parts with gw 2 running. I’m nearly 100% Processor use on both cores. Its a Piece of kitten machine anyways. My previous laptop hit above boiling even without playing the original. Just from starting up windows.
I can still barley play with the slow thing.
While I think the griefing behaviour described is reprehensible, I wonder why people want to leave their character in game while AFK, especially while AFK long enough to be killed 12 times, resulting in “100% broken armor.”
First World Problems…
How hard is it to simply click “Esc” then choose “Character Select”.
:)
Maybe you should log out? What possible reason could you have for taking up valuable server space? If you’re going afk, go to character select. Simple.
obviously abusable aspect is obviously abusable.

That is a specific problem to you and how your computer runs.
It’s not a problem for Anet to fix through extra coding and development when they could be spending that money and time adding content.
There have been a lot of solutions given here already. Pick one and use it.
I don’t know how to say that without it coming off as being a butthead, I don’t mean it to sound flip, but there it is. Sorry if you take it the wrong way, it wasn’t meant to sound mean.

Whatever the reason, if you’re doing other things with your computer, how are you not creating even more CPU overhead? You’re watching a video while being logged in, and yet you complain that the character select screen causes issues? Your story seems really fragile.
If you’re doing other things on the computer for long periods of time, you should seriously just log out and save yourself the CPU and memory the game is taking up.
Grief that annoys you?
Imagine grief that elated you!
“yay, my parents are dead! YAY!”
seriously? Just log out if you have to go AFK, or waypoint to some safe area.

Your temps are fine and shouldn’t even be close to an issue.
Also, you don’t need to log all the way out…just to character select screen so the 2 factor auth won’t be an issue either.
Lastly, once you’re at the character select screen you can use the Minimize Button in the upper right corner and the game won’t take up any resources or cause any heat.
Problem Solved!
Try using hall of monument orb before you go afk.
bahahaha. This isn’t even a valid problem. Like others have suggested, if you really need to afk just log out or simply click the PVP tab and go to the Heart of the Mists.
Logging out to compensate for such poor behaviour is besides the point. Sure it’s a simple solution, however, clearly some players have bad manners and are just plain arrogant to greif others in such ways.
