Griffonrook Run (a very angry rant)
I’ve encountered an empty chest only once after a jumping puzzle, but I consoled myself with the knowledge that whatever came out of it was only going to trivialize the difficulty of attaining it, by being so disappointing.
I ended up just giving up on opening the chest and just finished it for the achievement.

A lot of puzzle reward chests are bugged, and in general their rewards are… pathetic. Most only do it once for the achievement.
I have completed all jumping puzzles and I’d say about 1/3rd of them have bugged chests. Bugged chests also appear in the ‘normal PvE world’, for example the (minor spoiler) Aurora Glade event chain, after killing the last boss and following the ghost to the chest, the chest never becomes functional but opens only visually.
I have reported each of these bugs. But, just take comfort in the thought you would have gained a few terrible blue quality items only. They have no repeating value for that very reason.
Perhaps jumping puzzles need a unique gear set along with them, so say, each jumping puzzle (note: all chests have a 24h respawn time) also gives a few ‘tokens’ based on their difficulty, which can be used to buy a unique gear set. Maybe something with new stat flavours that increase chest loot rewards, movement speed, jumping height, magic find, gold find… ect. Gives people something extra to do on a daily basis (and there are a fair few puzzles one can run each day). Just to throw a positive idea into this thread.

They do have repeating value. I go back and complete old jumping puzzles almost every day because I enjoy them and like to see how fast I can make my runs.
Not so for Griffonrook. It’s random, it’s dumb, it smells and I hate it. That everyone, everywhere recommends not taking the bomb and just doing it normally for the achievement really shows that there’s something terribly wrong with this puzzle.
Repair bills? What repair bills? I spent like 2 hours on it, died over 100 times, easily – I didn’t need to repair anything. Not one item broke.
What doeskitten me off about that, though, is the fact that I placed the bomb on the very top of the chest, using the ability and everything… and it didn’t blow open.
my thought exactly corgi; i would have done the run without the bomb, had i known the chest was bugged. I finished it after roughly one hour and was thinking about opening a tread here as well because i just felt spat on. I didn’t mind the repair bill but the aweful design… urgh. The falling damage was well calculated but the fact that you just lie flat down for 2 secs, giving gryphons time to attack you is just stupid.
Final thoughts: JUST RUN WITHOUT THE BOMB AND GRAB THE ACHIEVEMENT!
If you die to fall damage, gear doesn’t get damaged. If you die to a griffon, say you just fell from way high up and a griffon attacks you and blows up your bomb while you’re still immobilized trying to pick your face off the ground, your gear gets damaged.
To add some positives to this the person who made the Sharkmaw Cavern puzzle should be given a raise and free rein to make all future jumping puzzles.

I haven’t had many glitched chests, maybe 2.
One was from Griffonrook, which I didn’t care at all as I don’t like rushing things. It’s what.. 3 mins if you want the chest? I only wanted the achievement and the chest was glitched anyway, lol.
The other was from that underwater place in Diessa Plateau, which you enter a portal at that flame legion place(NE of diessa) to go. That one was tough, I was lucky to be with like 8 other people. However, the chest was glitched at the end, after that annoying boss…
I can’t wait until they fix all these little glitches.
Yeah, Sharkmaw Caverns was sweet. It was bugged for me: the light never flashed in the dark room, so I had to use grenades to light the path for me and someone else I met in there. It was a lot of fun, and one of the only times a bug improved my experience.
A lot of the jumping puzzles are great. Most of them, actually. Just not Griffonrook.
This was my least favorite jumping puzzle but I like them all so it’s just picking the worst of a lot of really good content.
I almost never get anything worth a crap out of chests…be it from puzzles or the beefiest of champs. Most of the time I get blues out of chests and that’s like saying, here, have a few coppers, since that garbage is going directly to vendor.
So, I wouldn’t get all that excited about losing out on chest trash.
As stated in the original post, I was ok with items being bad. I expected them to be terrible. But not even getting anything, that was just adding insult to injury.
You can complete it after some tries without the bomb. It is fairly easy. There is no real point to carry the bomb anyway, I’ve never seen anything interesting in any of the puzzle chests, and I’ve done nearly all of them, some multiple times. I agree Griffinrook Run is pretty bugged, griffons can indeed hit you long after you have jumped, had my bomb blown up in mid flight multiple times. Just ask yourself, why do you bother with the bomb, if you get worse loot from it, than from killing a few griffons? Do it for the achievement, without the bomb
That is the rational way of looking at it. But some people just look at a stupid challenge and say, yes, I am manning the hell up and doing it the way it was intended to be done.
I don’t regret completing it with the bomb. I did it without the bomb once to learn the path, got the achievement, and went back to do it with the bomb. But if I’d left only after getting the achievement, it would have kept bugging me. What if that chest contained a unique item? What if someone was watching and thought I was a kitten? All these doubts, man.

Funny thing, when I did finally give up and just go for the acheive, the thrid Griffon I killed (the first one on the cliff side nests, right after you leave the first set of ruins) dropped a green Rifle that was an upgrade over what I had, and I think I got a ton of Vials from all the griffon kills (I killed them all as punishment for the run)

I would like to say here that while getting the achievement is nice and all, the constructed mechanic is to bring that bomb past all of those randomly “cheating” Griffons to the chest in under 3 minutes (which, when you do make it, is easily done in under 2 without excessive rushing) in order to blast open said chest and collect your reward.
I for one, after spending 5 minutes to easily get the achievement and 45 minutes to get the bomb there due to those Griffons would have liked to get my reward from that chest!

Kill the Griffons and carve your reward out of their hides

The chest in Griffonrook Run is bugged, obviously, so there’s no need to carry the bomb. I’ll give you credit for doing it anyway! So the only reason to even do Griffonrook is to gain the achievement, nothing more.
I like jumping puzzles but some mechanics I don’t like. I don’t like fighting enemies on tiny ledges. I don’t like wind that knocks me down with no warning. I don’t like having to run a really long way or start at the very beginning between attempts.
I gave up on the one in Metrica Province because of the wind. I wouldn’t have an issue with it if it just knocked me down, but sending me all the way back to the start really annoyed me.
