This is old now for some of you. but it’s now getting on my nerves.

I’m not getting the dailys now that they have changed it. They want too much stuff to do, so I’m missing out on extra karma now. I’m very unhappy about this. I did fine with the gathering. Now, I get up to about 80% done. I either don’t dodge enough, or craft enough. I have to go out of my way to do far too much of this. Boo on that. That just seems so wrong, having to die multi to get the jug. I’ve tried different kinds of dodging, so I guess the only kind that works is dodging the red circles. I don’t find that many of them either.

This is grinding.

I personally wouldn’t consider dodging 15 attacks and refining the ore and logs you get from gathering ‘grinding’

For the dodging one, hunt out the Oakhearts. Their big attack animations make getting the Daily Dodge easy.

If this isn’t a troll post, then you just need to make a SLIGHT adjustment to your gameplay. If you’re not getting enough dodges, try dodging melee attacks. Yep, it works.

Crafting? Go turn logs into ten planks. Or ore into ten ingots. Done.

But I still suspect a troll… and am glad engineers wield both fire and poison.

The daily achievement is actually considered a “grind” to some people? Are you new to MMOs? Where is there any grind involved at all? They aren’t even hard to do. I can do almost all of them without leaving WvW in a short time. Dodging is easy, you should be doing this anyway even in PvE. Crafting is not hard, buy some copper ore and make ingots. Even the aquatic kills which people complain about is easy, go to a low level zone and destroy some aquatic mobs. You can even use the bug that counts grey one-shot-kill critters as aquatic kills.

I have found some of the daily combinations easier to get than before. I do the dodging against the large ice wurms in Frostgorge Sound. If you keep a good distance, their boulder throw is quite easy to avoid. As for crafting, as others have said you only need to refine raw materials, which can be done quickly, and at low crafting levels.

I don’t find dodging to be a big deal, generally you can do it in the course of things – in fact most of these dailies you should be able to get credit for while doing other ones. The exceptions are things like crafting, which to be honest requires very little considering each instance of refining a material, or making any component, counts as something crafted. Turn twenty logs into ten planks and voila! Daily crafter.

The dodge achievement is making me think about dodging more, and making me notice when I dodge. Sure, sometimes I find I’m not getting it – and other times I get about three dodges in one roll because of a rapid shot attack. It works out.

There are times, too many, when I don’t get credit for dodging. And then it surprises me when I gain credit because I was fighting and not paying attention to my dodges. And I do dodge a lot. Maybe I’m not doing it right. The only dodge that works for me is hitting Z, which I have setup for my double backward dodge, and I don’t get credit for it. My directional keys don’t always work; I can’t trust them so I don’t use them for dodging. I’ve tried using the dodge on the health circle, but that doesn’t give me credit either. Frankly, I don’t know what does give me credit.

I guess I call it grinding when I have to go that much out of my way to do dailies. When I was just gathering, I found the resources as I went along just playing my game.

It’s only a grind if you are killing 2000 enemies, completing 200 events, reviving 400 people/npcs, and performing 600 dodges successfully to only get an infused amulet. Most people do dailies just as part of their game, and don’t care for the laurel con.

With the laurel, it has become a bit grindy because you feel forced to do it and it can take a while hunting down events or kill variety.

Either roll a ranger and use your spear underwater. Your basic attack lets you dodge.

Or you can find a mob like a drake that has a flamethrower ability and just roll into it. You’ll rack up dodge points instantly.

I gave up on ever crafting a Legendary. Best decision ever.

Heh, although I intentionally didn’t complete my dailies yesterday or the day before yesterday (just didn’t feel like it), I intended to complete the daily today. All I needed was the underwater thing – blech – but I logged out to get some dinner first and when I came back to finish up… whop pow! Reset for the next day.

/e raspberry

What’s sad about it is, later on I wound up doing the jumping puzzle in Gendarran Fields, and fighting a bunch of skale… underwater… but I don’t think the underwater thing is part of the new daily. Dodging is, though, and I got that fighting those skale. Underwater…

e/ sigh.

I didn’t even look to see how far along I was before I logged off just a few minutes ago. Meh. I liked the old dailies better. I’d get it done just playing. It was like, “Oh, cool. There’s the daily. Yay.” Now it seems like there’s always something out of the way I need to do and it’s usually something I don’t particularly want to do. Like fighting underwater…

Anyway, still holding at two whole laurels. Because I’m an achiever. I achieve things.

The table is a fable.

I think the daileys are easier now. Go find a lvl 1 plains worm, aggro it, and just sit there and dodge while it attacks you. Very easy. If you are already gathering as you go, you have plenty of stuff to do the crafting daily as stated above.

IMO every action should be weighted and the sum of these weighted actions should then count towards your dailies and eventually monthlies. This way you could do whatever you wanted and it wouldn’t matter. If you want to craft, farm, wvw, de, fotm, pvp etc it all combines to a total. But Anet want you to do a grocery list of specific ‘jobs’, well, my wife and boss (same???) give me a list of things to do all the time so I’m already sick of following orders before I even boot up my PC.

This might be why I’ve play 5 hours/day since launch and still only have 2 pieces of exotics and no legendary, no gold etc (obviously I should l2p). I guess some day I’ll have to play the game Anets way if I want any descent gear…

On the positive side of things, at least with the laurels I’ll be able to get ascended gear.

The only part of the Daily that I’d remotely consider grinding is Daily Aquatic Kills, mostly because it takes twice as long to kill stuff underwater. Even then, it’s not too bad since you can knock off a few Events while doing so, and you still get Aquatic Kill credit so long as you’re underwater when the enemies die (read: smack em on land, then hop in the water and pelt them at range).

How is that possible when most of the time you get pretty much what you got with old daily system + extra stuff?

Events are still the hardest to do unless you hit some specific area with frequently spawning events or run the right dungeons (not Sorrow’s Embrace, that’s for sure). I tried to complete my events by exploring today and spent an hour before I finally ran into my first (group) event.

While I have some consideration about the new dailies changing the way people play, they are not a grind. If you want to see a grind associated with dailies, go to WoW or its imitators and do their endgame daily quests, which can take hours depending on how many you do.

Do a search on these forums for “Daily Guide”. You’re making it harder than it is. Yesterday, it took me longer to get to each daily location than it did to do them.

Examples:
Crafting – 30 seconds
Veteran kills – 5 minutes
Underwater kills – 5 minutes
Dodging – 3 minutes
Healer – 7 minutes
Kill Variety – Completed running to each daily grind area.
Gathering – Completed that running to each daily grind area.

For Dodging, I just find a mob with a ranged attack (eg tar elemental) and stand back. Dodge when it shows you the windup move, and then again the next time. Done in 3 minutes.

For Events, either the zone I’m in for World Completion or Orr. Should take maybe 15-20 minutes. Can complete Healer there as well.

Gatherer is easy – gets done as I run around. Same with Kill Variety. For Aquan kills, I jump in the nearest lake.

Crafting is the easiest of all – just go to your crafting station and knock out a few ingots or similar. Less than 60 seconds.

I do think the Daily now takes a little longer than before, but 45 minutes for 7000+ karma (assuming you save the jugs and pop them when you have a karma buff, food and guild banner) plus a laurel is not bad at all. And parts of it also help with the monthly reward – being efficient is good.

Honestly, the dailies are awesome. I don’t see how they can be considered a grind. The only thing that could even come anywhere close would be the Daily Healer, and that’s just a matter of finding some dead NPC’s.

How on earth are you not “crafting” enough? You only have to stand there and make 10 planks or ingots or something. Really, if you made 6, just make 4 more, there is no way, NO WAY to not “craft enough”.

I don’t know, I mean if you find the dailies a grind don’t ever play any other MMO because you will be shocked to kitten at what grinding actually means.

Honestly, this is true. GW2 is very reasonable when it comes to investment versus reward – much more so than most other MMOs. I remember playing FFXI and it took me 3 years to get a character to the max level on two separate jobs plus all subjobs, and then another 2 years to complete a really good endgame set of gear for both jobs. And then they raised the level cap – so I quit, LOL.

Only one that is even a slight hassle for me is the veterans, and that’s just a matter of finding them. Underwater… go to the lake in Queenswood and do in 5 minutes. Healer… go to the pact camp in Timberline… done in 2 minutes. All the rest are very easy and normally are done in an hour or so of normal playing.

I’ve been doing the dailies on my Mez, and I actually do find the dodging achievement to be a pain. The main reason being that my normal playstyle is more or less built around illusions pulling aggro off me.

I do really have to make a conscious effort to get this achievement (e.g. picking a few mobs where I do nothing but auto-attack while trying to rack up dodges).

Also, you do have to time fairly careful. I roll out of harm’s way quite often but if you go too soon it doesn’t register as a dodge.

Daily Dodger is easy, find a skale in queensdale and wait for his loooooong startup firebreath animation thing. Walk back while he’s doing it, and dodge/roll towards him through his fireblast. You’ll get the ‘evade’ notification twice, meaning you just dodged 2 attacks with 1 energy bar. Now find some more skales and complete that daily!

(Might have been drakes, I dunno. The creature that’s close to shallow waters usually. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you aggro one.)

^ others before me have said it as eloquently as I could. However I will add when the daily resets it takes me no more that 30 minutes (usually much less) in Gandarrian Fields just north of L.A.

Edit- 5 Vets = Veteran Oakhearts abound south of Nebu Terrace
Underwater 25 kills = white 1 hp fishes and barracudas
Dodge = Moas have a breath attack with a long wind up
(or centaur bowman drawing the bow makes a noise that will alert you to dodge)
Gathering = lots of wood and ore about, get some tools and start cracking
Rezes = NPC’s near and around Nebu Terrace die on a regular basis
Crafting = refine 10 of what you gathered in L.A.
The longest part is waiting on DE’s to fire, some players will alert you to when they are up though

Easy as pie even for a someone working a full time job (like me)!

I hate the dodging daily so unbelievably much. There aren’t even words for it. It has to be so ridiculously precise. I fume every time a perfectly good dodge doesn’t count because, gosh, I moved when the enemy’s blade animation was at my character’s head instead of my chest. So, because I’m just too darn quick on the trigger I have to go seek out specific enemies, with specific attacks, so I can stand there like a dolt and try to perfectly time dodges to get credit. Awesome.

Healer isn’t much better. Bunch of people running around like a pack of vultures trying to snag any downed player or dead NPC, yeah, that’s fun. Yet another one where I usually end up having to go out of my way to find a cluster of dead NPCs somewhere because it’s near impossible to do during my normal play. Or, like last night where a couple of people were purposely abusing an afked player to get their healing count in. When I passed him again he was completely naked because all his gear was broken. I’m sure he appreciated that when he came back to the computer and, honestly, it probably wouldn’t have happened if “healer” hadn’t been the daily.

I also love how the new dailies were supposed to add so much more variety than the old ones. All they’ve really done is add, what, 4 more different objectives to the usual roster, most of which people hate? They should have done everyone a favor and not instituted the new system until you could choose which 4 out of 6 you wanted to complete, at the very least. Instead, they’ve been made more of a hassle, with a shiny new reward attached, so anyone wanting the laurel goodies (which is most people) has to do them. sigh /rant :P
