Ground targeting and cursor!
either way you have to manually target the ground, the only difference is that one way requires a double click but gives you a more visible and informative cursor, whereas fast-cast only requires one click but uses a fairly small cursor that’s easily lost in screen clutter.

I use the default ground-targeting reticle for the very reason you state: most of the time in any largish fight I haven’t a clue where my cursor is and use the ground targeting reticle to find it. And, for a traps ranger or a grenades engi that adds up to a lot of additional clicking. And, regardless, I would still argue that cursor viability would be a positive design goal in combat.
It should be like Secret world where the fast casting target actually casts around mob your targeting when fast cast is on. So you can just point and shoot..

exactly, and it doesnt help that GW2 cursor is easily blended into the background. Change the color or look of it?

unless you want to use your ground targeted skill on something other than your primary target.

because of GW2, I increased the size of my mouse to about double what it was. it helped A LOT

This is the smartest thing that has ever come out of your mouth.
Now say something to counteract it.
edit: Thinking about it, it wouldn’t work for Combos too well and for certain skills like elementalist water staff 3,5 for example. So nvm, it wasn’t a good idea.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Centring AOE effects on a mob leads to sub optimal positioning and wasted space. Time Warps area would be largely wasted if the mob was positioned against a wall for instance.
Not to mention how difficult it would’ve to setup and use combo fields, or position wells strategically in choke points, like doors.
I used to go with the target circle, because you can place stuff more accurately and see who you’d hit, but in large, laggy fights, you’re lucky to get one click/key press to register. The two needed key presses to do this killed it for me. I’m doing ok with the fast AOE now, it just takes some getting used to.

I’m not sure if you mean physical size or just the cursor.. but since you brought up mice size I have to mention that upgrading to a g600 dramatically improved my gameplay, mostly due to how much more intuitive ground targeting felt when the same hand was activating and targeting.

I use fast ground targetting and “where is my cursor?” is occassionally a problem but I find that it is rare enough that it is not a big deal.
Casting at the target could be an option but it definitely should not override fast ground targetting. As someone who has played ele in GW1 for a while I know that is a crappy system. Trying to hit a moving target with grenades would be an exercise in futility.
I have used both auto casting and the usual and auto casting is a pain- I continually lose my cursor and actually getting it back takes me longer than just using the usual big green circle and double clicking.
For and Ele and an Engi that is not ideal at all
I would LOVE a better system

Sorry – I meant cursor size on the screen. I was always losing it on the screen (hold down right-click to change directions during combat, then need to left-click to cast something, but have no idea where the cursor was)

I think i nice fix would be when you are using a GTAOE skill when you press the skill the large AOE target pops up so we see it and once you release the button/keypress it then goes off. So for a split second you would see the large targeting cursor, and for those who want they can hold down the key longer to have more precision.
This would make the whole mess of never seeing your small lil arrow cursor prior to attacking.
