It just seems like guardian gets chew alive by almost every class, especially classes with good range attack. I think the problem is giving every class healing abilities with low CD and guardian long cool down. Seems like all ur effort and popping all ur CD trying to get close and dish out damage only goes to waste when they heal back up. To make matter worst ur healing is also much less due to poison condition.

-Guardian’s heals are much larger than some of the other classes that I’ve played. It seems to make up for the cooldown. In fact, it almost seems to be proportional. The Thief can heal for 4500 every 15 seconds but the guardian can heal for 9000 every 32. In a shorter duration fight the Guardian’s heal is better.
-Wall of Reflection. (My personal favorite, as some of these classes really are designed to take out guardians, just put up a wall and fight someone else instead).
-Shield of Absorption.
-Hammer has an immobilize.
-Scepter has an immobilize and 1200 range.
-Sword has a gap closer
-Greatsword has a leap.

It 40 sec if u don’t trait into it. Btw u know u can only carry 2 set of weapon and not 4. And even if u do close in the distance u will be lucky to get 2 strikes in before they dodge roll away. And what about going up against range condition build.

When I play sPvP, I use a meditations guard — scepter/focus, sword/torch. I have two gap-closers (meditation, sword 2); I can generally take out ranged classes with some combination of the above. I can spike fairly well with scepter 3 → scepter 2 → focus 5 → {swap to sword} torch 4 → meditation or sword 2 → {f1 if available} sword 3 or sword 1 while following if they want to kite. It’s true that ranged classes like to kite, and for them I have to follow to keep up melee damage or swap back to scepter -- but most die before this is an issue.

This may be that I’m mostly playing people who are worse than me — I’ve played some rangers and mesmers who give me a good run for my money — but even there I’ve almost always won some of the 1v1 fights.

Try playing against Tanky builds.

Wasn’t trying to mislead you. The thief doesn’t have an option to trait their heal time down. I was listing the weapons to demonstrate that they all have a gap closer or similar. Have you tried using contemplation of purity? Pair it up with Save Yourselves in WvW for a quick way to wipe off the conditions on everyone around you.

You’re making it sounds like your class is broken when really those players are traited specifically to defeat you because your class is one of the most powerful. Don’t believe me? Fight all the classes in the spvp mists area and tell me which one is the hardest to beat. I just took my thief there and the guardian downed me in 3 hits. I eventually tweaked/etkittenil I was able to beat him, but that NPC is way harder than any of the others (on any class I’ve played).

Try playing against Tanky builds.

Was that for me? I can generally wear down tanky builds — takes longer, but guardian sword w/ crits has pretty good sustained DPS. The ones I sometimes have trouble with are hybrids who can do decent damage while running away (usually necro, engineer, mesmer, ranger).

I don’t use my guard in WvW, much … but in WvW, the question is really how you contribute to your zerg’s effectiveness. I’d use a staff in WvW (staff 2-5 all have some utility, and staff 1 lets you tag fairly effectively), as well as scepter/focus (blast finishers are nice, scepter 2 is good for taking out siege, scepter 3 is good for stopping runners). I think you could make it work with other weapons as well, but melee against a zerg doesn’t work well unless your zerg is pushing.

In sPvP, pretty much a good Necro or Mesmer is the only thing that gives me trouble, and I would classify maybe 5% of Necros or Mesmers as good. Any other ranged class gets destroyed. They can’t take the damage I deal and I can easily teleport to them with at minimum two different skills, not to mention an Immobilize as well.

If you are getting “destroyed” as a Guardian by ranged, that’s completely on you.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
