I have played several MMOs, but none of them to my knowledge has there been a class that actually uses shields as a primary weapon. I mean, if Captain America can do it, why not a class like a Guardian as they are supposed to be specialists in defensive magic? And nothing spells “defense” like a shield.
How I imagine it would be this: the shield can be treated as a short-to-medium range weapon and it can deal high damage but at the cost of having less attack speed when compared to, say, scepters?
Okay, so I may have gotten that part wrong. But still, I am all for having a primary shield weapon. Smashing people’s faces in and if you got two shields, you can do a Rollout attack or something. XD
I was trying to think of any way to make dual shields plausible. At first I was all “nope” but then I thought about bucklers. Those are small shields, and could be theoretically strapped to forearms to leave the hands free to hold other weapons (or just to punch). Maybe they could be razor edged for a melee slash attack.
Still not at all historical, but I could see Hollywood using the concept along with a lot of wire work.
How about two forearm-mounted ‘half-shields’ with serrated edges/blades (or spikes) that can be used to bash (flat) or slice (edge) and can be joined to form a full shield to block frontal attacks? Does something like that exist in RL or some other game?
I have seen anime that has that concept (Erza Scarlet’s Adamantine Armor) but not so sure with video games. I was also thinking that the shield can be used like giant boomerangs or frisbees.

Because I could totally see a Guardian (or even a warrior) using “shield bash” a 425 range attack with 15-20 sec CD and provides a couple seconds of protection boon.
