I went to buy 10 keys for the BLCs

I got… nothing…. Viva L’Updates!!!

Really, I got merchants, 3 Lion tickets, and other useless stuff. I know there where only 10 chests… but yeah… not worth buying more.

Three tickets, or three ticket scraps? Because three tickets sounds like an outstanding draw.

RNG is RNG. The odds might have improved, but I wouldn’t count on seeing major fruits of that in ten random chests.

Whereas in 10 chests I got a ticket, some scraps (sadly 1 shy of filling out to another ticket), a Balthazar’s Rifle (that I should have sold to high bidder right away, hindsight lets me know — I listed it so I’d get over 150 gold from it but today it was down to 30 gold sale listings, alas, so I sold to high bidder before it went down further), some unidentified dyes and two Glint dye kits (no special dyes in them), along with misc stuff.

Not the perma hair kit I always distantly hope for but it was a decent haul for 10 chests. RNG happens.

Sorry OP but I am the opposite side, I think it was a bad move to add in the older Weapon skins as a direct drop. They immediately trashed the market on those lines and made gathering keys (story-line/gold-swap/cash) questionable and thereby less desirable by itself. Maybe they are really are trying to help us all not gamble moving forward.

Side note: drop rates were increased. Opened 250 last night. 5 full tickets, 127 scraps, 6 Bath skins, 2 Chaos skins. The drop rate on the skins is wayyyyy to high. Dropping the value of skins in this way is not a good idea long term. Bring them back as extended ticket prices sure, add them to high end boss loot as ultra rare drops, sure. Make them ultra rare in chests ok, but right now they drop more often then full tickets. But you can just look at the trading history on these lines to see you now just crashed their value and it makes people question why gamble moving forward.

I only opened one. Cuz keyfarming and pvp tracks are exciting slow ways to get them for free, which is the only way I’d want them since they usually give nothing and gambling is a sin.

I got a new combat boost, which wastes space. If it was a strength, regen and etc it woulda stacked with others and I have to pay to convert those so meh.

Then I got a tome of knowledge to add to my 2nd stack of unused ones and a teleport to friend stone.

A friend of mine got ah… I think it was an unlimited total makeover kit or something like that. From one key. Sold it for several hundred gold. He was praising RNGesus all week. the kitten. LOL

That must have been a while ago. Permanent hair kits have been in the thousands for a long time. I think the OP was talking about how chests might have been patched this week.

Why did you expect anything different? BL keys are lotto tickets — the value is entirely in the anticipation before you open the chest, imagining what fun stuff you might get. Like lotto, though, the vast majority of results are minor (or nothing).

They were never worth buying the first place.

My friend for the first time dropped around $20 on keys after hearing the changes and wanting a particular skin. Well, he hit the big time a handful of times. He got what he was in it for AND lets say he got dyes and other things worth a solid 1/2+ years worth of daily gold and still a bunch of other stuff. He’s always had the luck and well me… not so much. Tempting but still holding out, weakening…

People who open 250 boxes didn’t likely farm the keys, they bought them either with cash or converting in game gold to gems.

There’s no longer any reliable method to farm 250 keys. The closest we can come is to farm gold, convert it to gems, and buy — a system that works well for buying anything in this game.

I usually can manage to save up 10-15 keys for whenever there’s a change to the contents (wintersday or various game updates), which includes lucky drops from map completion and a few “key runs”.

Yes.

Opened 250 because I do all three methods. Key farmer, gold conversions and cash. So I am ANets target market since I will get and gift some via cash. I get what I can in game, convert gold and buy some via cash. Keys are or at least were a type of end-game content. Make gold to convert to gems and then buy keys. Its a cycle that keeps people engaged. Its like Fractals, the goals of fractals is more fractals. Keys are or were the same. You convert gold to keys to make more gold to get more keys. But when they alter patterns then they should consider people will devalue those items and expect less demand.

For some, golds in game value is its conversion to gems and how it might improve or increase that accounts value via conversion back and fourth.

Easy. Make gold, convert to gems/keys during off period, do key runs once per week and buy some gems every once in a while if you saved cash from other sources or want to support ANet.

I got 7 ticket scraps, 3 mini eggs, 1 bank express, and rest boost :P

Sadly yes, that’s now the slowest way to gain them at once per week per account. But there are other sources like PvP reward tracks, now WvW reward tracks and such.

Variable ratio gambling. The king of all gambling addictions.

It was, oh, 6 months ago maybe, and maybe he did sell it for thousands instead of hundreds. The irritating thing is the guy barely even plays, maybe a couple times a month, and me, a lifer, haven’t gotten squat lol

I got a key from my personal story today and got 1 Bank Express, 1 Transmutation Charge (why the heck are single transmutation charges even a “thing” in chests…), and 1 Unidentified Die. Yeah, I’d say yours was a pretty good draw

You will hate me when I tell you this. I got three keys for doing map completion and story rewards in one week. From those keys I got one complete claim ticket, a total makeover kit, and a self hairstyle kit. I never buy the keys – ever. I don’t get them as a reward I don’t get them.

How do you get them once per week per account?

Keys have never been worth the price. Ever since I got burned with them from the first year Halloween I’ve never bought them since.

You make an alt, level it up enough to do early PS, and do early PS. Once a week your account will get a key from doing that. So it’s exactly the same as key farming of yore, except that now it only works one run a week.

DAng, I got excited for a minute when I thought key farming came back >.< I found much joy in it. And helping the occasional newby with money/answers to questions and such was pretty enjoyable too.
