I dont know about anyone else – but its fairly plain to see that guesting and the guaranteed rare drops from chests is HURTING players on their OWN servers.

The last few dragon events Ive ‘attempted’ to go to have been immediate drops into overflow on Henge of Denravi. When you get to the event IF you get to the event – you are surrounded by unfamiliar faces and guesters. (Along with horrible lag and disconnects.)

Funny enough, I didnt notice these issues until guesting started….

Its getting to where doing large events in a team on your HOME server is near impossible if you want to actually… enjoy it… or GET there.

Anet – you need to do something about these issues. I know its not just me – every event has people discussing this in mapchat before and after.

It is not guesting thats to blame. How do you know its guesting players, if you are in overflow? How do you even know a player IS guesting?

Map chat discussions are always bunkum, as rarely does anyone actually state facts or even tell the truth, or may even make a joke of it.

First off, Anet lowered the number of players that can be in an area before it goes to overflow. Secondly, new guild missions are sending large numbers of players to different areas of the world, including dragon event zones in order to complete said guild mission. Thirdly, high population servers are going to overflow more often because; Fourthly event chests now gaurantee a rare item and hundreds of thousands of players now NEED rares for the ecto to gain new ascended gear.

Thats all before guesting is even taken in to account.

=I Because when you FINALLY get to your home server – there admittedly ARE people guesting. If its NOT guesting – something STILL needs to be done, so your post is still highly irrelevant. Im talking about SPECIFIC dragon events particularly. Its only gotten bad since the guesting has started…. EVEN IF its people FROM the server – something HAS to be done, since events are basically no longer playable, OR enjoyable.

I know you are talking about specific dragon events. That doesnt change anything about my post. I did Jormag last night and right before he spawned one of the guild bounty targets showed up right at Jormags spawn point. Bloody loads of players for guilds turned up to whack said bounty and no doubt made plenty of people go in to overflow since there was a crapload of them.

Anyone in overflow would not know that and irrationally assume they were ’flowed for a different reason, namely “guesting” since its been incorrectly bandied about as the cause when it is in fact several factors together and not just one thing.

As I said ; Anet lowered the number of players in an area before it will overflow, plus lots of players are now in areas taht have dragon events but are not there FOR the dragon event due to guild bounties, and the high pop servers are going to get ’flows more often because of these changes combined with the new gauranteed golds in event chests.

Its not just guesting, though that is a factor. Its several things all at once causing the increase in overflows.

I play on Henge of Denravi, and I have yet to encounter overflow for a guaranteed-rare-chest event. I guess I am extra-lucky. One of the perks of being on a somewhat unpopular server, I guess.

Ha, I’ve been to HoD and it seems like your lucky just to get enough people to even do those events, maybe theyre all guesting on the other servers. But I do believe guesting is a problem, atleast the way its being used. Servers that already have a large population can only suffer from guesting, im not saying its a horrible amount guesting but any amount is harmful.

Im on Henge of Denravi, went to do Tequatl, ended up in Overflow surrounded by SoR players… I asked what they were doing, they said trying to do Tequatl because the Timer is to long to wait for… Thanks to Dragon Timers on Google, people know which servers to invade and wait.

Oh look it’s this thread again…

Yes it’s a problem.

I’m sure they’ll do something about it.

IMO they could make it so you can only guest with your friend on their server if they are on… It’s meant for you to play with your friends… not abuse events.

I do not belive it is guesting that is the issue BECAUSE of the new one chest lock out.

You see, back when there wasn’t a lock out and people were bouncing 3 servers at a time farming chest, we had no guesting problem. Now everyone is getting kicked to guesting. My guess is as a short term measure to help with performance issues, anet dropped the number of people allowed ikittenone by a large amount.

Has nothing/extremely little to do with guesting.

More of a problem with a low population cap on the map… and a high demand of getting there to do the event.

Even if there were no guests present, you are going to see an overflow.

While it may be true that there might be guests in any location at any time…. they are not the cause of this problem by any means.

A good solution for the guesting farming dragons would be that if you’re guesting then you don’t get any loot from the chest.

Keep the guesting system the same and get rid of the abuse of it.

It’s not guesting

Also, get a friend. If they’re in the main server, you can usually get in with them by selecting “join player x in area y”

Quick mouse, that does not work. Did that tonight with jormag, when I tried to join the zone as my group mate it said the world was full. even spamming it didn’t help.

Lucky freaking me, about 10 minutes later the overflow jormag was up, hilarious.

Sousui, go earlier. Don’t expect to have a spot reserved for you when everyone and their uncles on your server (not just the 5-10 guests) want to go to the same zone at same time. I never have a problem getting all my events done on both my characters.

I was going from a finished shatter to jormag, they just touched each other.

Oh yea.. and F- THAT! This isn’t a trip to the mall, or driving to work. There is no such thing as “oh well if you left early, you wouldn’t get there late.” Its a game, a game in which there should be no such thing as over flow. You know what overflow is right? It is an additional feature implimented to handle the times when the servers cannot handle the amount of data they are given. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN! EVER! Its a temporary solution and is fine for extreme cases, like christmas. christmas offers up extreme crowding. Not in the middle of freaking march.

The overflow is an elegant solution to a problem of congestion in specific servers. When Rift launched, they didn’t have overflow servers. They had queues to get into games. For months after, there were some servers you’d still get queues on.

So instead of logging in and playing and having some fun, you started at a number, hoping it would go down. One day when I logged in I was 514 in the queue. I was not impressed.

Guild Wars 2 solved this problem. You want a thousand people on a server all at the same time? You’ll be so lagged you could neither move, nor play.

Overflow servers are totally awesome even if you occasionally miss events because of them. Because the other viable option stops you from playing completely.

Like Vayne above me has said the Overflow is a good solution. When I was playing WoW my server was one of the highly populated ones and a lot of the time there were queues to join in. And I don’t mean 5-10 mins. Most of the time it was between 1000-2000 people which meant you have to wait for hours to login. And God forbid if your connection failed for just a tiny second…

So yeah, overflow is a good solution. If you get in to overflow while there is an event ask a friend if he is in the normal one and just join him
