Hi folks.

So today i checked the dragon timer before i logged in and i had some time to kill before Teqatl. Did my daily gatherer in straits and ported back for teq. It eventually spawned and as usual there was a lot of ppl there. Due to the games’ memory leak problem i d/c shortly into the fight. That’s happened before, ‘no problem’ i think. When i restarted the client and logged into my character, i was taken to sparkfly fen OVERFLOW server and completely missed the event on my home server, along with several others.

I don’t have all day to play and these meta-events do not spawn every 10 minutes- i was cheated out of this event by an influx of guests. Aside from buying a new comp, is there anything at all i can do to prevent this happening again? What if i d/c and get booted out of nearly every major event on my own server because of these ‘guests’?

For each boss, it’s one chest per character per day so people have no reason to go elsewhere to kill the boss again.

IMO, it’s maybe your server which is over-populated during such events.

A good solution to this would be to give players on their home server priority to the main instances, and force ‘guesters’ into the overflow.

This. The chests are globally “soulbound”. Even if you guest on a different server you can’t get that chest again in the same day. So, either you were extremely unlucky, or it’s just your server being overpopulated.

While I feel bad for your situation, forcing people who are already in a map out of it is not a great solution either. Guests or not.

Perhaps instead ANet should lower the threshold above which people aren’t allowed to guest to a realm?

minutes to an afk zerg.
its more “profitable”.

Are you sure it’s down to guesting?

Yesterday they improved the drop rate for all the boss chests (at the same time as restricting it to once per day) and unsurprisingly a lot of people are wanting to test the new system.

During the headstart weekend it was quite common to be put into an overflow on the starter zones, and not only was guesting impossible then, the server caps were lower too. So it’s clearly possible for a zone to go over the limit just with people from that server.

If a majority of people on your server were wanting to try out the new boss chests and the timer said Teqatl was up next it’s entirely possible enough of them headed over there to bump you into an overflow.

Not quite sure what you mean here. The bosses have always been on a timer (or rather the start of the event chain is on a timer, the boss itself also depends on how long players take to complete the events).

So unless you’re saying you object to getting a better reward from the chests I’m not sure what you mean is not your type of content.

Hmm, I’m on Gandara (high-pop server) and if as some have said that chests are globally soulbound perhaps my best option is to guest to a lower server on one character and do them there. I’ve never guested before (never felt the need) but maybe it’s time to test the waters.

If it’s global for each character, why are people crowding onto already busy servers? Something doesn’t make a lot of sense here. I could understand a few people trying to catch an event because they still have a couple of hours to go on their own server but the numbers crowding the events out are ridiculous. There needs to be a cap on the number of guests otherwise the game will be largely unplayable.

It’s not only the events themselves that are massive lag-fests. When the events are up, the whole place becomes laggy, you can feel it on the other side of the map.

I like this idea. Regardless who was there first, if a homey comes online the guest should be kicked to make room.

i simply think that world bosses are not done right as farmable content right now.
they just shouldnt give the best in game rewards. zones are more interesting when the boss isnt being camped.

Guesting is being abused. It is meant to be used to visit friends, but it is used for personal gain.

I hope Anet comes up with a solution and fast.

I’d just like priority over server guests. That or make guesting invite only and temporary so you have to get an invite every time.

So for the second day in a row, nobody on Sanctum of Rall can do our own dragon encounters because the zones are full of guests and we’re getting kicked to overflow. We are getting very agitated with this issue.

There needs to be a limit on how many guests can occupy a zone, and it needs to be very small in comparison to the number of native players can occupy said zone. While I realize this may cause some problems when you want to play with friends from a different server, you have the option of guesting to their server, them guesting on yours, or both of you guesting to a server neither of you call home and hooking up there.

Sure, that could be inconvenient, but the person who shouldn’t be inconvenienced is me when all I want to do is something as basic and understandable as playing on my home server. As a resident I should never lose a spot to a guest.

Maybe that’s harsh, but people are abusing the guesting feature. The intention was to join up with friends on different servers, not hop to other servers to take advantage of event timers, etc.

I’ve no idea, but after events here on TC I’ll often see a slew of people admit to guesting, only to be told to get out by natives who had to endure lag so crushing all you can do is auto-attack and stand there lag-locked.

Me? I get DCs and crashes in the middle of dragon fights because of it and miss out on chests. I’m tired of it. I’d like in on the piles of rares falling out of chests, too.

Yeah – this just happened on YB with Tequatl. In game crash right after a massive lag spike. Enemies slow down, you can’t use abilities at all, and then you are tossed into an overflow in sparkfly.

As soon as a dragon lands – massive problems happen. It doesn’t happen as much in Frozen Maw or Shadow Behemoth

This is exactly what I warned ANET about before questing went live. There is some shady questing going on and they need to sync every chest event to a world clock and lock chest events out once you complete an event for 72hours.

I’ve copied and pasted this reply from my response in another thread:

It is easy to blame guesting…. but in all reality, that is not the likely culprit.

With the new loot tables on world chests, there is an obvious increase in players completing these events.

Have you never gotten an overflow in LA?
Do you also blame this on people guesting from other servers to chill out in your LA home server?

If you have enough people just hanging out in LA to create an overflow, who is to say you wont have enough people doing all of your home server’s events as their respective timers pop?

Also,
There are so many world events going on on any server, that rarely will you have enough time to finish one before needing to map to another.

Swapping servers to do the same event over and over again would, at most allow you to do the event twice more (per toon), and it would just be easier to do all of your home server’s events.

Also, don’t you think that holds true for all servers? So if there was another event somewhere on another server, and what you say is true…. there were people from your server going to that event as well, essentially relieving population from your home world event.
