Guesting imposible ?
don’t see why that would happen, overflow isn’t server specific. its a collection of players from all the servers that couldn’t get on their main servers map.
Well i want to go on deso…. i am directly in overflow because itvs already full….. i wait …. i have a box who says do you want to go on the choosen sever… i click …. and an error happens i can t leave the overflow..
So…. how can i go on deso ?

Have you tried different servers? Or is it just a single server you have this problem with?
It’s possible that so many people on are Desolation that when you get the requester to click other people are getting it at the same time and people have clicked before you.
When everyone tries to get into the same restaurant at the same time, there’s going to be a long wait for service.

This happens especially on weekends and when you try to do Jormags Claw or Behemoth, since in those zones there is always a champ train and when the event is up the zone is often full.
The error is just that there was a spot free when the question came, but the spot was already taken by someone else when you clicked on it.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
If you’re looking to do the new ones good luck getting in if you’re not queued up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the event starts. Especially on desolation or blackgate

An MMO is not a restaurant. Here, there is a reasonable expectation that when you log in you will be able to play. And, in every other MMO I play that is the case.
There is no problem with instanced zones per se. The problem is that people are in different instanced zones than events and are aware that they are in different instanced zones. No developer on earth would design a user experience like this, so it is likely that they have painted themselves into a corner somewhere in their architecture.
Because the problem has gone on for over a year, it is likely that it is an intractable problem. That, and because they have announced no roadmap out, would indicate that it is probably something the player base will be living with for a long time.

Are you somehow unable to play in an overflow?
I was under the impression that overflows were identical to regular maps.
Funny how you claim that “in every other MMO I play that is the case.” seeing as most (if not all?) other MMOs don’t allow you to play at all if the map/server is full and instead put you in a queue rather than overflow.

Okay this is too much. Every other MMO when it was popular, had queues. You had to wait to play. Rift had queues. Star Wars ToR had queues. The overflow servers were designed so people wouldn’t have to wait to get into the game and you know, I played Rift and there were times, early on, when I had to wait 2 hours before I could play from the time I logged in. I sat and stared at a number for two hours.
This person isn’t being stopped from playing. He’s saying he wants to pick exactly where he plays. There are so many servers, but he wants THAT server! That one! Why does he want that one? Because they beat the wurm. That’s it.
So no, no one is stopping him from playing the game. It’s a big game. You can play it. The game is just stopping him from getting on the one server that’s beat the wurm.
That’s all.

Did you read the OP at all before posting. You can certainly play in an overflow. But, if your intention was to participate in an event, you are out of luck. WoW has instanced zones and you are never aware that you are in an instanced zone. No developer would design a scenario where users are aware they are in differing zones.
Bloodtide Coast on Desolation is a bit of a special situation at the moment.
A big part of the reason they were 1st to beat the wurm is that there’s a lot of people who stayed on that map doing every single wurm fight so they could practice and improve their tactics. And a lot of them are still there, still working on it. So spots very rarely open up.
And when they do you’ve got tons of people all trying to get in because they think if they can be on that map they’re guaranteed to win.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”

We are talking about zones, remember. Anytime there is a login queue in a game it means either a full server or bad launch. But, we are not talking about logging in, we are talking about zones. The game has advertized an event. He goes there and he is not able to participate. Are you telling me you would design something this way?

Oh, but the only thing that is (currently) not completed in overflow is the Wurm, every other thing have been repeatedly completed in overflows, and the Wurm most likely will be soon as well, so I really don’t see the issue.

He can ‘t play the event because he can’t guest to the specific server he wants to? I’d say that’s completely 100% fictitious.
It’s like saying you can’t trade in Kamadan because you can’t get into district one. It’s a complete overstatement of the case.
Aside from the very obvious fact that there’s no guarantee if he gets in that they’re going to beat the wurm anyway and there’s no guarantee that another server won’t beat the wurm while he’s trying to get into that server…this is the most extreme example of exaggeration I’ve seen.
I’m attempting that event on Tarnished Coast. I’m playing it. I’m sure he can guest to some other European server to do the event, or join a big guild that’s doing it.
He can’t guest to one single server that everyone specifically wants to guest to the day after they beat the wurm? And that means he can’t play the game?
I’m sorry but that doesn’t make any sense at all.

Right. You can go to Queendale for Behemoth and it’s a toss up whether you can participate. The timer indicates the event is happening on the server you are on, but there is no actual event in progress where you are. Problems with overflows are not limited to any one event. They are an issue wherever there are large scale events of the kind the game developer creates.

Think it through. Let’s assume he were a native on the server he wants to guest to. Would his experience be any different in regard to overflows?
Oh, so the issue is basically that you can’t use a 3rd party site and decide based on that what to do?
Without overflows the issue would be even bigger, since that might make it impossible to even get into the game at all.
With overflows at least you can still play and hope that the event comes up.
All the new (and updated) events does also start on overflows that are created 10 minutes within the start of the event in question, which would lessen the “issue” even more. And one can assume that they will do the same with coming bosses and updates.

Nope, the issue is how Anet manages instanced zones. The same problem would arise if Anet announced an event in-game or if everyone simply waits around for an event to spawn. I used a 3rd party site because it has info based on GW2 info on when an event is happening on any given server. It can be happening on the server you are on, but it’s not happening before your eyes. This is pretty straightforward, but I understand the need to deflect and not deal with the issue in front of you.
