Hello!

I play a lot of games – a lot of them that have questionable swearing and such that really it just bounces off me now. I would like to make sure that this Guild I want to make isn’t going against the Terms of Service or the ‘Rules’ of the game – don’t want the name changed because personally I think it’s ingenious.

The name I want to use is ‘BS Solutions Inc.’ with the tag [BSSi]. I’m questioning whether using the acronym in the Guild Name would cause a need for the guild to either be disbanded or the name to be changed.

Thank you for your feedback in advanced!

The only way to get a definitive answer is to create the guild, self-report the name to ANet via a support ticket, and let ANet decide. On the forums, you can generate some interesting (and more likely, some boring) discussions about what is or is not considered offensive or banable or suspension-worthy, but ANet makes the decision and they don’t discuss specifics in the forums (with a tiny number of notable exceptions).

Of course you think that your idea is ingenious — every genius and every … less-than-genius person in the universe approves of their own idea. It’s not usually a good benchmark for evaluating whether anyone else will think it brilliant or even not-that-bad.

I have seen several guilds live long lives using names that lent themselves to backronyms that some might consider on or over the line. It’s hard to see an objection to [BSSi], in and of itself.

‘B S Solutions’, however, doesn’t even allow a censor to pretend to ignore your intent, so I’d recommend being a bit more creative. Perhaps, “Bloodstone Scientific Solutions Inc”. You’ll know what it ‘really’ means (and I’ll know ), but any censor can act as if it probably was coincidental.

PS some coincidences still aren’t acceptable, regardless of how well/poorly the author’s intent is disguised. I think you’d be ok with B & S but there are some acronyms that no one would allow.
