Guild Event locations?
We don’t know yet what the events look like and if the trigger spot has influence on the areas where you need to go… let’s just wait and see, shall we?

When you activate a guild mission, you will be assigned one from a list of many possible missions. These missions exist all over the game.
We’ve just recently put up the following blog post to shed some light on the details:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/leah-rivera-on-new-guild-missions/
So the reward for guild missions is “merits” (why do we need more currency again?) that we use to buy more guild missions so we can get more merits to get more guild missions?
I guess that’s good in a feedback loop sort of way. I’ll remain cautiously pessimistic so I’m not disappointed by the day 1 bugs that somehow missed your QA team.
Gold increasing banners are nice though.

I thought I read that the Merits are essentially things that unlock upgrades or production for your Guild Research.
Are these missions in special sections of the map or in instanced areas? The locations in the video aside from the part with the karka did not look familiar. I ask because if they are a part of the persistent world in the middle of existing parts of the map, what will prevent these guild missions from breaking like persistent world events do on a regular basis, some of which have been breaking and not progressing since launch…
Its great that you guys want to add things to the game, but I’d rather see fixes to the game (fix to culling, class balancing, etc) or features that people had been asking for over completely new content. That may just be me though.
Guild Puzzle looks epic.
I think Guild mission will be fun when you do them first time. If they will not have any random parts. People get bored with them very quickly.
Guild mision requires influence to start.
Are we going to get influence, karma, gold for completing the mission?
I really like the updates that I am reading about but I am in a guild with only five other people. These are the folks I have been gaming with for the past 10 years or more. When you are talking about multi group events does this mean my tiny guild is out of luck?
I read that your intent is to allow guilds to invite other heroes of Tyria to help out in these, but after 5 months of playing this game I have yet to make a single connection with any other player in the game outside of my current guild. Not for a lack of grouping with random folks to do dungeons or events together, it is just that there have never been a sense of “Hey this guy/team is fun to hang out with friend invite incoming!” that I have had in other games. I typically meet up with a group for a short time and then we split ways and that is that.
To get back on track, is my tiny guild out of luck for doing any of this? I know I do not want to lose all the progress and effort we have put in to our guild by joining a larger guild just to see this new content.
I am desperately trying to reserve my opinion on this.
Small guild here as well. We like it that way. Have been gaming together for over a dozen years.
That aside, the main issue here that raises a red flag for my guild’s longevity with this game:
As as a small guild in multiple MMO’s in the past, we have enjoyed participating and often leading outdoor raid content which requires strategy and coordination on a large scale. We were hoping GW2 was headed more in this “classic MMO” direction.
What we’re seeing, as an on-going pattern, and specifically here, is nothing more than glorified jump puzzles and arcade style play with timers. Designed for large groups.
We don’t want to use the guild missions as a recruiting tool.
There is concern about investing guild “currency” in a mission with realistically high-risk of little return.
We won’t be partaking in “community-building” jump puzzles, because we don’t enjoy Mario Brothers nor Frogger.
Trying to reserve opinion until actually experiencing the new content.
At the moment, on paper, there is nothing attractive about the new content.
And it raises concerns about future content.
I’m also curious if we’re going to have a system for grouping multiple guild groups for the new guild missions? All we have currently is the commander and squad system. Often running guild events with the commander pin up you get flooded with random people joining, asking what’s going on, etc. Removing the commander pin dissolves and disbands the squad. If you want to do a private guild event you have to do it as separate 5 person groups using VoIP. It’s sometimes very frustrating to coordinate 2-4 groups using only a 3rd party VoIP.
As has been suggested numerous times, if there was a way to “hide” the commander pin and still retain all the functions of the squad system… that would be perfect for guild only events. Basically a private squad. Is this something we might see in the future?
The devil will be in the details, particularly for the smaller guilds (like ours), and like a few others have said, I suspect we’re simply going to be out of luck for a fair number of these activities even if we wanted to do some of them.
More freaking jumping puzzles? Great….

I have to agree. It looks interesting, but I’m not sure how interesting it may be in action. I suppose if anything it’s something my own smallish guild can do now and then together.
I agree as if I would have known Jumping Puzzles and Dungeons would have been the core to the game, I would have left it on the shelf….
If my small guild has no control and is assigned an event type that simply can’t be completed by 4 people, yet we don’t know what the event is and can’t plan for it in advance (nor is there any social infrastructure on a “world” through which people plan for events), based on reading the blog post and watching the video my guess is we have a 90% chance of having to abandon.
Disappointing. Hope I’m wrong.
Oh, and I detest jump puzzles, including any jump element in a dungeon. Seeing the jump element in the video was very, very off putting for me.
I agree as if I would have known Jumping Puzzles and Dungeons would have been the core to the game, I would have left it on the shelf….
Majority of gamers for all sorts of mmos thought GW2 gonna be a Core Pvp kinda gameplay before launch but it turn out to be the opposite lol!

I agree too. If I had known that there was going to be crafting, dynamic events, WvW, sPvP, and world exploration I would have left it on the shelf myself.
I see a few people with small guilds here who are concerned… here’s food for thought: if you all just help each other out with these guild events? It really can’t hurt to work together with different guilds for the duration of a single guild mission.

I think they’re more concerned about what it means that they might have to get help or expand membership.
There is no in-game alliance communication system outside of the commander squad system. So basically we’ve been told to expand our guild size, or blow guild influence in the hopes that PuG’s will show up to help out.
Obviously we still need more details, but it doesn’t take much to see that this hasn’t been fully thought through, and there are far more small guilds than there are monster sized groups which is why this isn’t going to go away.

Well then, why not just make everything single player content so you don’t have to cooperate with anyone, ever :/
I’ve read in another topic that the requirements may be too much for small guilds to reach (art of war level 5). That is a valid concern. “I don’t want to work together with other people” is not a valid concern for an MMO imo.
Art of War lvl 5 IS req … good luck!

Like I said, the devil is in the details and I guess Anet didn’t learn their lesson about the gated content that was (and still is) only available in the fractals. Small guilds just got screwed out of this content.
Thanks for the new content but also try to fix culling. The previous patch made culling horribly worst.

This seems the only reasonable way to go about it- we help with your mission, you help with ours.
It might even lead to alliances between the smaller guilds.
The only kicker now seems to be the requirements to set of these missions in the fist place.
I really hope you are right and that we can still do it like this

Some people may be arguing exactly that point, but you misunderstand my concerns.
I have no qualms whatsoever in grouping up with anyone to achieve a goal. I find it highly enjoyable to be off on my own doing something and see a group of folks taking on an event. I will rush over to help out and then tag along with them sometimes for hours as we just fight our way through an area.
What my concern with this content is currently is that they have stated that small guilds can do the missions if we can recruit others to help us out. I have done the raiding scene, I detest any content that I can start on my own or with my very small group of gaming friends that leads to needing 10 to 40 people to see complete. I do not want to have to go through the hassle and drama of coordinating a raid anymore, this is one reason I love GW 2 and the dragon events. I can be in a massive group of heroes that comes together on its own sees a goal accomplished and then we all move on to be heroic as we see fit.
The folks I game with are the core I have gamed with for years, we have stayed together over 5 different MMO’s have been part of massive guilds and small, currently the latter, we have never balked at expanding but since coming to GW2 and leaving the drama of larger guilds in the dust we have seen no need to expand especially with the way GW2 has been developed we have not needed to do so and that has made our game time so very stress free and enjoyable.
If this content is for guilds to have something to do as a community then I hope it is developed in a way to accommodate as large a variety of guild sizes as possible, if on the other hand this is geared more towards larger “raiding style” guilds to give those folks that have been craving that raid feeling then I ask that it be stated as such. I just do not want to sit and get all excited for content that I will be unable to see because my guild is too small. I like many others eagerly wait to see what is next on the horizon with this game and the excellent team that creates it.
I feel it would be a kindness to know which way this is actively being developed. And I know they stated that small guilds can do the content but I ask you, What is the metric by which a guild is measured as small? You and I may think very differently on this and Anet may think even differently still. Ultimately it is Anet’s perspective on what size a guild is to be labeled small and I fear that my little 5 man guild is well below that title and therefore not on the flow chart of deliverables when the development decisions are being made.
