This summary won’t repeat suggestions that have been named xx times, it is a summary of the main thread page by page and each idea is included once. I have also included sub discussions between devs and players but that are scattered through pages.
Note : I shorten Guild Hall as GH.

I find it nice that You want to take the work away from me through basically cloning my Thread and the honorary mention of me is nice, but my own version of the Phase 2 will be definetely completely different and more fleshed out than this, what I’ve done in this conscise style just only for Phase 1, because it was obvious, that Phase 1 will get flooded by tons of brainstormed ideas and there it was important for me and my summary only to catch up all unique ideas in a quick and clean way that anybody can overlook easily.

But now with Phase 2, there is no need anymore to be super conscise, now we have only 1 clear topic – Guild Halls – and so the structure of that related summary can be a bit more full of descriptions, sub points ect. to give that topic more structure.

Sadly I hadn’t lately much time, so I couldn’t be able to keep my summary on pace with the CDI GH Thread, which I think is the reason, why You started this Thread now.
But I think I will take some time over the next Weekend to get my summary about Phase 2 started and I’ll make sure that this thread will find somewhere its place inside of it.

PS. there can be only 1 complete summary edition :P – Mine ^^

Have representations of guild halls scattered around the cities. They wouldn’t be functional, just skins replacing some existing buildings.
Have a few themed guild halls in the open world maps in places you can’t reach. Maybe a mountain fortress high in the mountains of Lornars Pass or an Airship flying overhead, or a small tree guild hall just outside of Caledon.
The key would be tasteful representations and not massive overcrowding.
If we have customized guild halls, then maybe have a contest. Those who win get to have their guild hall used as a representation in a city.

By inherently adding Guild Halls to a game that becomes a core piece of guilds where it not only makes the system more integrated and potentially more interesting through how these pieces of systems interact, but also is likely to make things more clear by physically representing what is happening to players.

I suppose you could have different lockouts based on the size of the hall made available, a solo guild wouldn’t need a massive castle, and could have a solo-based quest to unlock it, while a massive guild would want a massive castle, and could require an epic campaign across Tyria to unlock it

Guild Halls should be divided into classes or qualities. Basic Guild Halls should be free (low barrier to entry) but higher quality guild halls (more space, more benefits etc.) should be more difficult to acquire and have some sort of upkeep.

Bounty and trek seem difficult to implement, but it’s certainly possible that a few guild challenges could be developed that take place entirely within the guild hall.
The “Research” unlocks do not actually unlock anything themselves; they just increase your level in a given type (Architecture, etc.). This would be a prime place to drop in free Guild Hall upgrades

Your guild instance map is seperated into four sections: Politics, economics, art of war and architecture. As you upgrade these things through the I-VI lines, the sections will get larger.

On the topic of cost scaling:
I think one solution to the scaling problems is to create different aspects that work on different scales.
For example some aspects can be time gated and therefore don’t favor any size guild. Some can be based on straight up farming which favor larger guilds, and some could be driven by activity and favor guilds with active members.
Think of it like the 3 branches of government, and the aspects within that.

I think in that way the question that comes to mind is what parts of Guild Halls would you want to have work in what different ways so that we can reward big guilds for those areas but not punish small guilds for the things they really want…

It is mostly a lengthy discussion about the ability of small guilds to have GH and the emerging consensus that GH
should not be locked behind a conditions like “the guild must have X nb of members to have a GH”

Contributors agreed that a hybrid system that requires both merits, influence and achevements is the
best for GH upgrading and/or unlocking. Quoting one among many :

Guild hall acquisition should go something like this:

Reach 20 players and you unlock the ability to start work on the guild hall. Once started players have to gather a combined total of each tier of wood (For example: 100,000 Soft wood logs) and obviously contribute gold towards the workers.

Guild hall acquisition should go something like this:

Reach 20 players and you unlock the ability to start work on the guild hall. Once started players have to gather a combined total of each tier of wood (For example: 100,000 Soft wood logs) and obviously contribute gold towards the workers.

Introduction of the “expeditions-category”
An adventurer npc in your guild hall launches “expeditions” every fifteen minutes.
He just spawns a portal to a random event-location in Tyria. This might be a bigger event chain,
a meta-event chain but also a jumping puzzle.

-A functional unlock for within that building (A WvW Tornement mechant under the barracks etc…)

-You could no longer use influence by itself as the base currency as it would completely unbalance rewards away from groups of skilled players towards gold.
-You would need to rework tiers and need a solid unskipable gate for higher tiers (functional stuff would be at low tiers).
Lets say building visuals is tied with tier?, then you need something that ensures only a small portion of the guilds have the top tier and ideally not a grind so that it’s a reward not an expectation.

How do we build customization into this upgrade system where there currently is none?
We could split it 50/50 , Unlocking upgrades from the building unlocks new placement options (can now place banners, can now place functional items, can now have a maximum of 10 npc’s in the building).

For example, building the Armor and weapon vendors rooms unlocks the Art of War category. You could then have certain prerequisits for other rooms, such as having to build a seige vendor room before access to wvw buffs (or vice versa). As for the boosts, they themselves should be tied to either one vendor, or still accessible as they are now by guild interface, just unlocked once the proper room is built.

I feel the way guild upgrades are currently in place there is place for some instances of interaction between them but there is also plenty of room for upgrades to be a completely separate thing. I think the majority of buildings should be attached to a build tree that would allow for maximum customization without the technical dilemmas.

At some point in the CDI thread, this appeared :

I think Lanfear’s question is what happens if the guild you are repping swaps alliances and no longer is in the alliance that made the hall — how do you handle man-hour investment in an alliance hall if for reasons fair or foul you need to go separate ways?

Yes, this is precisely what I was asking. I know in GW1, my guild was in several different alliances over the multitude of years that I played. Sometimes alliances just don’t work out for a variety of reasons and guilds go their separate ways.

What happens in such a case, when the guilds split, to all the effort that was put into these ‘shared’ halls. The man hours, the funds, etc. When they join another alliance that has it’s own shared hall already, do they now have their hall, the old shared hall, and then the shared hall for the new alliance as well? This could get cumbersome. Do they lose the old shared hall instead and thus all the effort put into it? That could really tick some people off. Or do shared halls simply no longer exist if the alliance does not exist? Could this not be a double edged sword – ie, as much deterant as incentive to build such an item?

Yeah this is a real problem. This could completely preclude Alliance functionality on our Guild Halls discussion. Can we have some ideas to beat this problem please and see if we can solve it?

One guild starts and alliance and is now the alliance leader. They then recruit other guilds to fill in the officer, elder member, member, and recruit positions. When building the alliance hall, it is the leader guild that queues the upgrades.
