I felt that I needed to come on these forums to share my frustration about GW 2 and the reason that caused me to leave the game three years ago.

I grew up playing the first guild wars and had a blast. My most favorite feature were the guild halls. The fact that you could own a hall, upgrade it and then defend it was amazing to me.

When I found out that GW 2 was coming I was ecstatic and pre-ordered it as soon as I was able to. To my disappointment when I got into GW 2 I found out that there were no guild halls. I searched out information on this and found out that it was a feature that would be coming. I continued waiting for, what was to me, the essence of the guild part of guild wars (It is my opinion that a guild without a home to call there own is but a roaming band of mercenaries). I and my fellow guild members waited months and still there were no guild halls so we packed up our copies of GW2 and moved on to other games.

Finally, three years after release, I find out that they will be coming.

I was angry that it took this long to finally add something that was a staple of the original GW game. I am abhorred that it is being sold as a major feature of a new expansion pack. We now have to pay more money for a feature that (in my opinion) should have been included in the base game (as it was in the first GW) from the very beginning.

I don’t honestly know if I will come back to GW2 for the expansion or not but I needed to share this frustration with both the community and ArenaNet staff.

I thank you for taking the time to read my rant.

It is a great game that you are missing out on because of one feature. I find that to be very silly.

Like you said, it’s your opinion. Developers must have had their reasons not to have it up front, and the game survived just fine. Your opinion was either a minority or of not enough weight to make nothers avoid the game.

Be happy it’s coming now. A feature in a game shouldn’t cause you that much frustration, feeling abhorred or angry.

That feature was a very large part of GvG, my favorite part of the game. It was also one of the more pronounced things that made Guild Wars very unique in a highly cluttered genre of games.

Thank you for being respectful in your reply.

Never once did I say I didn’t care about the rest, after all I did play for months before I left. Guild Halls were a major feature that made the game unique and fun for both myself and my friends. They helped emphasize the whole “Guild Wars” part of Guild Wars.

It’s true that I may be in the minority or my issue may not have had enough weight to make others avoid the game.

However, the fact that they will be charging people for something they offered for free in a previous game still stands. Yes I realize that the expansion pays for the extra work required to implement guild halls and stronghold pvp, but it is my opinion that this work should have been done in the first place as it was a major feature in the first guild wars.

Thank you for being respectful in your reply.

Maybe you could think of it this way: There was no jumping (other than an emote) in the previous game. So, we should have to pay for that. Instead, we got it free, but to make up for that free feature, we will pay for Guild Halls. Seems fair. =)

So doctors should take away medication from patients and then three years later give them a lollipop and say “Hey, you didn’t have a lollipop before! Oh and we will sell you the medication you use to get for free at a premium!”. Because essentially they took a free feature to sell at a premium three years later and giving us minor features in return.

Thank you for being respectful in your reply.

You’re not a minority if you saw the Twitch streams from the unveiling event of the expansion. Colin’s words as he told the crowd… “What you’ve all been waiting for… GUILD HALLS!”

Guilds have had little love and attention in the game so far, except for addition of some missions. But I hope they do take a turn to improve this with the xpac as it sounds like these guild halls can be cool guild projects to build and maintain, Stronghold that can lend itself well to the GvG format, etc.

But I also agree with the general consensus here; you’ve been missing out on a great game if the lack of guild halls drove you away from GW2.

As for features that were in GW1 and weren’t in GW2; you can’t think like that. They’re two separate games, entirely separate platforms and only sharing lore universe. You knew what you paid for with GW2 and again what you will have to pay for with GW2:HoT, so the argument that you had it for free before doesn’t hold. You never did with GW2.

What in the world? Fine, replace Trading Post with jumping. Regardless, two different games, each with features the other did not have. If you find GW2 unplayable because of the lack of Guild Halls, I suggest you familiarize yourself very thoroughly with Heart of Thorns before considering its purchase.

Good luck.

I think you are under the assumption that you can’t access the guild halls if you don’t own an expansion. (which may or may not be true)

While they are indeed to separate games you can compare them thanks to that 2 at the end. It would be like expecting parkour elements in Assassins Creed and not having them in Assassins Creed 2 or Assasins Creed IV: Black Flag. With GW2 I expected them to be a part of the game and if not then added in as a free addition shortly after launch.

What I had meant was that it was a key feature of the first GW (notice guild hall and guild wars and that you do guild vs guild through your guild halls) so one could clearly expect it to be an equal part of the 2nd game. This is shown by what you stated about what Colin said. Clearly players felt the same way as they were waiting for guild halls, which I can safely assume they thought would be part of the game as it was in GW.

It would be like playing Diablo and then expecting Diablo 3 to also have Diablo in it but only to find out that he is not but will be in the Reapers of Souls expansion if you purchase that. Diablo and Diablo 3 are in the same lore universe just as GW and GW2 are.
