Guild Housing/Player Housing
~Tarnished Coast since the beginning
I haven’t heard anything about this happening. I hope I don’t hear anything about this happening either. I feel that housing would not bring anything new to the game that’s not already in games with housing. Whenever I see a game with housing I never use the feature, I find it very boring. When I think of Guild Wars 2 I can’t imagine why you would need this. I don’t like the idea of going in to an instance and playing The Sims.
Because I haven’t heard of them talking about it I can’t imagine they would put it in the game. If you want it though, I would suggest putting it in the suggestions part of the forum.
There will be housings promised from the interview. However, the interview mentioned that they’re not working at it at the moment. So I guess not anytime soon.(Which is really sad for me. None of the previous mmo I played have any housing system.)
Yeah, I hope the housings are very interactive and customisable. I hope it’s not those where you buy the house, upgrade it (skyrim) and that’s it, we forgot about it the next week/month. I wish the house where we can spend hours everyday just on housing. (E.g. Hunt for rare materials and craft exclusive furnitures to show off.) If it’s those addictive types, it’ll be very nice. There’re certain progressions. A good alternative to appeal to dedicated players end-game experience.
I’m all for housing. GW2 and Sims all in one? Heck yeah. ESPECIALLY if you can craft certain furnitures and such. I’d be messing with housing related things all day urry day.
I want to live in Wizards fief please. That area is so beautiful
Yaks Bend
I would like something similar to Aion or DWO. It would be nice.
Recruiting dungeon raiders.

This really disappoints me to hear that they are going to put housing in. I hope they have really good ideas for housing because all the games I’ve experience that have it are really…terrible.
u know what would be cool , the guild houseing instanse,
just like a zone that u can enter and meet ur guild friends , and set up a group for dungeons , and also when u upgrade the guild artwar or any other thing like that , u can actully see the building , that would be awesome (something like heroes , when u build something its show up in ur castle)
housing is a big waste of development time for little farmvilly experience for me (just stating my personal take on them), but guild halls where a place you always felt drawn to in GW1 and I think much of the whateverism of the current guild scene could be cured by giving people those places to identify with and to hang out at, the sooner, the better.
I am looking forward to housing, both personal and for guilds.
If they do something along these lines (and previous developer quotes indicate that they are thinking of something), I would imagine it’ll be tied in to the whole “Home Instance” idea, something which is currently incredibly lacklustre.
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
After all the fun my guild and I had in our guild hall from GW1, I was very disappointed to find no one was even working on this. While I understand that it’s now a new PvE/PvP zone, I still see it as a important tool for guild/community building.

Best Player housing to date IMO is Everquest 2. They even had a tradeskill profession for it.
You could build furniture, paintings, table decor, flowers, rugs, chairs the list goes on. You could rewards in the game like flaming boar skulls you could mount. It was purely ascetic and awesome.
Wish I still had pics of my 3 story mansion all super decorated.
You can watch this… http://www.twitch.tv/mmorpgcom/b/337726366
It covers a bit about housing and guild halls.
Housing has been begged for in a lot of recent games and only handed over in a few. The truth is, new gamers don’t want it. Only us old timers who played UO really understand how nice it is to have your own crap in an MMO game world. :-\
I’ll be surprised if you see it any time soon.
you can see it in the “home instance” for the Humans, they even give clues that your house will be based on your choices at the start. Running through the noble story they even mention in one of the steps that you have a house in the noble area of the instance. .. and they have a Cottage area point of interest (common folk area?) and I bet if you chose Street Rat your home will be one of the rooms at the pub your friends hang out at.
Dont really need a personal house but the Guild Halls, thats something different.
I would love to see all guildies be able to joing in our grand hall and show off there shiny armor or fabulous city clothing
Lets wait and see what Anet makes off it and then adress any problems/missing stuff we have.

Anet should built housing like Archeage.

Being able to build your own house would be great _ And making your own furniture etc. I hope they will add something like that in the future
Yes please we need guild housing badly.
what’s the point of housing? serious question.
what’s the point of housing? serious question.
What’s the point in any other activity in GW2 or any other game like that? Fun. Simply having fun.
Not everyone likes pvp. Not everyone likes heart quests. Or jumping puzzles. The same could be said about housing. Some people love it, some people don’t like it.
(and please don’t think I wanted to be mean with my answer…when I read it myself it sounds a little bit mean, but it’s not meant like that! I just don’t know how to explain or word it differently.) :)
Just additional fun stuff for us to do especially if you can decorate it. That’s why it’s gotta be decoratable, if not, I agree, it’s kind of a waste. You can collect or display trophies, or you gather rare materials so you can craft that furniture you want. And then to show off to your friends what your interior looks like. Also as a guild, a place you can gather, hold guild meetings and just have fun. In EQ2, you can upgrade the guildhouse so you can have crafting stations in it, you can have teleport master in it, vendors, NPC that give buffs, etc. It’s just fun and if you don’t use it, then you don’t use it. Also housing is part of the reason guild members can root themselves with this game, and that they can root themselves with the guild. A sense of belonging, so they’re less likely to quit the guild due to the many perks, and also, less likely to quit the game.
A house and a hall that can be fully customized yes please.

It’s an extension of your character, think armour and weapon skins but bigger.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
I don’t care about guild housing, though it would be nice.
But personal housing? Done right? I would be spending time and money on the game even more. Let us craft things for the house, let us use it for extra storage. Let it have a wardrobe for all these outfits, etc.
Have trophies we can collect out in the world to display. Some will scream “go play sims,” but I would argue: housing makes a player feel more ownership, more personal investment, into a game. That equals commitment and spending time and resources on GW2.
Our personal home instances are already set up to have this feature. I think early next year, after they get some mileage under the dev belts, we can look forward to this feature. Yes, balance what we have. Fix bugs/bots/balance. But looking to the future? Housing. Yes. Please.
I would love to see a full on house editor, the issue with housing in other games is that although they allow some sort of custom features such as paint a selection of types or internal decor, they do not allow you to build the house.
They should sell a plot of land (different sizes)and allow people to build what they want within that boundaries, you want a 3 story keep, you get to build one, a wizards tower, tree house, pyramid asura thing, charr metal camp ect. A block by block editor would be good.

i don’t think it’s rude :P I just don’t know what you would do with a house… do you invite people over to /dance in it? after you customize it… what’s the reason to go back to it?
in a previous MMO you could build yourself a ship and decorate it like crazy, but it had a very defined purpose as most endgame content was centered around driving your ship around to get everywhere. but i don’t see the purpose of a house that doesn’t move.

Which is why after the original decorating phase usually threads pop up in regards to more functionality. Be it crafting, display of your armour sets and weapons, etc.
Two things I could see depending on how it is done – an extra way-/travelpoint for free , some additional storage. Simplest version. Perhaps it could be used for town clothing.

I can’t imagine how many hours I spent in UO building different house designs. It was an absolute blast. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any screens. *sighs
