Tifa Ran/Ranger with a Pet
Commander WvW – Henge of Denravi
There is probably a thread covering much of what I’m bringing up, but this doesn’t seem to be being addressed.
This week’s Guild Missions for the PVE mix are abysmal. We use the missions to promote guild gatherings and to have fun. But this week’s selection was extremely short on selections.
2 bounties and the rest are treks and races. 2 of the races are identical. No puzzles or challenges again.
ANET, please do something about these kinds of guild mission selections that your RNG keeps coming up with.
Leaving aside that you have not added any new guild missions in eons, the current crop of RNG on selections seems to be broken. And let’s not leave that aside. Long ago we used to get 40+ showing up to guild missions, now it barely tops 20 each week. And yes, those players are still online that used to come, but they are no longer interested in doing the same thing over and over again. We need a fresh infusion of missions.
Ideas:
Boss hunts – similar to bounties. Give a selection of bosses to hunt and let the guild chose one to do for credit. Require a certain number like you do in WvW, puzzles and challenges.
A new puzzle or two(SAB has some interesting things you can add as an instance.)
New challenges – utilize some of the shrines in Orr or how about a beefed up dungeon instance for a guild mission.
Unless I am mistaken, I remember reading some what recently, on Reddit, a dev stating that they will not be providing further development on guild missions at this time.
While it would be nice to see more guild missions, they seem to have their plate full and balanced in a way to consistently release new content. Unfortunately the current model doesn’t seem to have room for guild growth.
On May 28, it will have been four years since the last new guild missions were added to the game, despite the new system added with HOT designed to make them “easier to implement” and the following from the (at the time) game’s director -

I think the big problem is there is no one at the helm with the time to properly lead game direction – across the board. Afaik, they still havent replaced Colin – and the game is probably suffering from that lack of dedicated leadership.
Things they (and many players) once considered very important are slipping through the cracks or have just been completely forgotten.

I think it far more likely that they have a new direction, rather than that they have no direction at all. People may not like the new direction, but I’m fairly certain that that was accounted for and accepted.
Mike O stepped in to replace Colin for the foreseeable future. While he did state that he would have to hire someone eventually, he did also state that he would be laying down the path that “he” believed in. I think it safe to say that once Mike has the game going in the direction he thinks it should, he would hire someone to continue it in that direction.

CEO is a considerably different role than game director. You can’t manage the business aspects of a complex company like ANET and expect to be able to adequately manage creative teams and keep them on track at the same time.
Were seeing the game fracture as it is. Players don’t have a cohesive game that fits together to give us any kind of “living world” any longer. People log on in separate little pods, do that one thing they had in mind and then log out as fast as they can. The game’s big picture is fuzzy at best – and non-existent at worst.
That is, imo, probably a direct result of no vision and direction from the top.
Guild missions are an unfortunate casualty of allowing the ship to drift – hoping these separate independent teams somehow all row in the same direction without letting them know which way they should be facing.
My guild still does missions every Monday night – it is pretty much what keeps us together and sets the tone for the rest of the week. Pretty much the only reason we do them is so we have an excuse to come together – not because we find them engaging or interesting. I know we arent the only ones for which this applies. Anet needs to fix that issue – and I think that requires some actual direction from the top.

GW2 has always felt fragmentary. I don’t think you can pin that on MO. It has never felt like it has any big unifying vision.
I really wish there were a guilds subforum. This is an important topic for some and it gets drowned out – as do most topics – in the general information area.
Heard they disbanded guild development team which was formed during HOT launch so it is good to assume there won’t be any new guild contents for awhile.

It’s probably worth knowing that in the software development world, at the scale anet run their dev team at, teams probably form and dissolve all the time, driven by a wide range of things.
During HoT there would be a need for a big, focused push to get a large number of guild things done, polished, and shipped. Just adding some more missions probably doesn’t require nearly the same coordination of artists, map and graphical designers, UI people, crafting designers, programmers, content editors, AI development, etc.
So, “dissolved the guild team” probably means that guild development reached the point that it didn’t need a single team doing it full time, all the time … but nothing more. Not that they can’t develop more guild stuff, or anything like that.

The problem is, without some kind of dedicated approach, or direction from above, nothing is getting done. Again, May 28th will mark FOUR YEARS since the last guild mission was added.
