Guild Missions - revealed!
Its interesting that people not of the guild can get some kind of reward (hopefully other than normal event rewards) for doing the guild missions. My only fear is that, how are people not in the guild (and not in the specific map), going to know about these guild missions? (other than someone spamming it in LA/capitals)

awesome, thanks for the link
Reduced WP costs as a guild bonus…that’s pretty neat.
I’m interested in the others as well, now.
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
Realm specific forum sections would be nice. Rather than spam in game, guilds could just post times they plan on kicking off these events and the server could really rally behind it.
Players are going to post the info anyways. Likely here or in the players helping players sections. May as well create an official place for it to keep things tidy.

How dissapointing… instead of raids we’re getting more mindless, super easy, open world zergs?
I have to say I rather like Acidic’s suggestion of some sort of place to post an event before you plan on starting it. It would really help some of the smaller guilds, such as mine. The idea of banners is good but really seems like it will be hit or miss. Most high level pve players seem to mass in specific areas in open world and may never even see the event banner.
@slowburn
thats my problem..
open world zergs are not fun..
i hope the new content is done smart and isnt “beatable” only with numbers of auto attack spammers.
open world endgame is really difficult to design, i hope they kick kitten on this one!

we will see, A-net now has a much better idea on numbers and if the new Orr enconters show anything its that they can make diffacult open world content ((see Grenth))
also note that there are some aspects of this stuff ONLY GUILD MEMBERS can do.
grenth, grenth…

i need to go take a look over there.. see if there is hope for open world content to be rewarding gameplay.
My god! I can’t wait for the awesome Guild Missions!
I am really, really excited to try them out!
To be honest, I didn’t get myself hyped on the Guild Missions. I assumed that it was an Influence spewing machine and its rewards were “meh”. After reading this interview, I’m pretty hyped now. It’s great since Guilds actually create the content in the open world. I would love to see how it expands further down the road.
I wonder how well small guilds will fare with these compared to large guilds…?
I wonder how well small guilds will fare with these compared to large guilds…?
I’d assume that Guild Missions might be tied to how much you can activate in a given time period (similar to Guild bonuses) and how much influence the guild has.
The new guild missions sound very fun! I just hope its not like killing a dragon or veteran karka, which takes too long the fun fades away.
Colin for now they are focusing on open world PvE for now. He leaves open the possibility for these guild missions to be instanced content at some point in the future, with the possibility of PvP mechanics as well.
It seems it could be possible to implement some version of GvG with this system at point in the future. Am I the only one who thought this?
Thanks for the link, thanks to MMORPG.com for hosting the interview and thanks to Colin for entertaining it.
Very interesting. I am still left with the question: "Will Guild Missions increase individual player’s “power level”, similar to obtaining the highest level loot from raids in other games?" I.E. If I want to stay at the top of my game stat wise and power wise, will I absolutely need to do guild missions?
I think he touched on some rewards like cheaper waypoint costs(so awsome by the way). But did not touch on individual player rewards.
From a technical standpoint, I seriously hope they are QA’ing the hell out of these events that guild missions create, so that they do not interfere or mess up already existing dynamic events. Thats the big elephant in the room that people are missing when analyzing this idea of guild missions. Im the one to call it out now that this might go overlooked.
Awesome, the interview does show a nice roadmap for the upcoming updates!
a tonic to become.. “a guild banner”. Underwhelming.
Quote from interview:
“Also, anyone who was in the guild that kicked off the mission receives an extra different type of reward, which can be traded in for a new category of personal guild rewards that can only be earned through the guild mission system.”
Now I can’t wait to see babies crying how there is only one way how to obtain that goodies.

The way I read it, I thought the only stuff for GUILD MEMBERS was going to be the rewards. I don’t remember reading anything saying there would be guild only events.

Yup, time for me to join one of the “large” guilds I keep seeing in chats.

yeah, that was a bit cheesy.
to talk about it in a marketing interview is kind of sad

Yes, because by quoting just that you miss out entirely on the rest of the interview. Way to isolate a statement.

I think it’s amazing. I am going to use one by the fractal entrance in LA and see how many people run by and try to click me.

Mpt guild only events, things in an event that only guild members can do.

He’ll spike you like a football, literally.
I’m too much of a ragegamer to deal with that kind of cheap kitten.
I’m confused, What about a small guild of friends (around 7..), would they be able to complete these things or do you need 500 people???

I slam down my WarBanner and BAM daily heals done.

I just can’t move quick enough on my trashy computer. Running in there with a glass-cannon gunner thief hardly helped things. Hard to revive anyone when the launching attack I’m talking about kills me from fall damage alone and instantly. pretty much pointless for me to try there. But enough about this, I don’t wanna hijack the thread.
I myself am excited for these. I’d like to know if they only cater to large guilds because I don’t find myself keen on those that force 100% Rep but as it stands The biggest guild I’m in now is 5 people.

Except that doesn’t help revive other players (or at least mine never does). Sure you can get the daily heal from the npcs, but dead players are still not helping complete the event.
I’m with the roostapro, how is a really small guild going to compete with the larger ones? Also, what happens if two guilds try to do/start the same event?

Lol Its kinda stupid but i have actually survived the drop by spamming all my shout (with heals) as soon as i hit the ground landing in a regen aoe, and useing my self heal. :P
but yeah dont bring a spike build to, he needs alot more groups/ group focused builds and a little planing, some got to focus on him/ some have to focus on protecting that dude, and some really need to focus on bringing down the shade’s and staying near the pools energy.
we need more events like that insted of just DPS it down tell its dead. and that is what i would like to see with the guild events

It wouldn’t be as bad if you could get enough people there who knew how to handle him. I’ve been present for a group of no more than 15 people getting him to 20% before someone got sloppy and it domino’d to a wipe. (That someone was me. I ran my endurance too low to dodge out of a circle.)

not dead Just downed . players with a big enough health pool dont alway’s just Die from the drop, and manny get taken down by all the other AOE’s or the shade’s

It’s not.
Granted, there a bunch of different mission types and they all vary in difficulty. But given that this is guild content, we created some challenges that should hopefully require some decent coordination. And while the risen temple of Grenth is a fine example of very hard event, I think you’ll find that the guild content pressures you ways other than dealing lots of damage. A few missions haven’t even been completed by our internal testers yet (but they came extremely close).

I, for one, welcome our new hardcore group-content overlords.
Color me hyped.
I just wanted a AAA MMO with no sub made by ArenaNet. And it’s awesome.”
Sounding gooder and gooder!
I like the acknowledgement that the population has risen recently. SHould paid to those threads we see.
Looking forward to more fun in a couple of weeks

That’s what I’m a bit curious about though… Let’s say a guild does a mission (of mid-level difficulty) and no other non-guildies show up to the event/include themselves. Is 10 guildies an ideal number, 40, 50, 100? Kind of curious how the threshold works here and what ArenaNet designed the ideal and/or minimum guild participation #’s around.
Edit Also I have to say I love that idea of a guild perk that reduces waypoint cost!

ill go visit grenth then. i was getting a bit disillusioned by open world (as endgame only!).
nice touch to put cooperative gameplay, and even nicer that a chunk of it is “tough”.
end game players are “usually” the type of players who are willing to take the heat and the blame if everything goes bad. a little bit of undirect competition is good imo.
you guys seem to be getting a good grip on your game. future looks bright.
ColinEffectively, this system allows guilds to literally create content across the world for everyone to experience. When one of these missions is created, often times you’ll see a banner with the guilds name and emblem that created the content.
That’s brilliant design.

If you want to do Grenth because it’s “very hard” note that it’s only hard when you zerg it and a majority don’t know how to kill shades. If roughly 25% of the people know what they’re doing, Grenth is entirely a stay out of the red circles encounter, making it not that difficult.
If you are an average gamer, Grenth is very hard. If you are however an actual gamer, Grenth is medium, with most events in-game being easy or below.

Were they toned down that much ?
Unfortunately there will be several smaller, casual guilds who will complain that the larger scale content is too difficult. Just wait!

I think you’re severely underestimating your players desires to trivialize/find the path of least resistance for your content. I assure you, after the initial wave of crying, and there will be crying, that it is too hard/too easy/too buggy/not rewarding enough/too rewarding/not instanced enough/too instanced, will come the cries much like people cry about speed running now.
I guess I’m saying with the amount of bugs and exploits that are released every patch there’s a serious disconnect between you testers/QA and your programmers and I expect the same of the new missions.
I’ll be satisfied riding the slide of least resistance before you implement some sort of DR on these.
they have an ok difficulty the internal dungeons.
obviously a system like fractals, that makes it harder everytime is a solid way to keep the players “on their toes”.
but i remember my first few runs in the explorable dungeons haha, i had a blast and i couldnt believe the challenge!
some are still tuff enuff; cm, coe
i believe with time anet new content will really be “right” for the game.
and they are suppose to revamp some of the old dungeons, didnt they say that?

Funny, but the same statement got a ‘yay’ from me too although from a completely different reason. If it is that hard, I am no longer sad my two people guild cannot do these.

I didn’t do any dungeons during the betas, so I don’t know if they were nerfed during, before or if QA is just, the “average” gamer.
Originally, explorable dungeons were announced as the hardest content in the game designed for a group of coordinated players. QA even said during one of their streams that they had yet to complete some of the explorable paths, but that was okay, because they knew there were more hardcore gamers that would be able to do it, and that was who it was designed for.
I still remember going into my first explorable dungeon, keeping in mind of what they said above. A few minutes in, I remember thinking “this requires a coordinate group?” but I was glad, because the group I was with wasn’t exactly the greatest, or coordinated. I also remember laughing to myself, when after the dungeon they talked about how hard it was (we didn’t wipe at all or anything bad).
