Guild Missions - revealed!
While I am a bit concerned about how the new guild missions might affect smaller guilds, I gotta say that they sound pretty cool from what I read! Also, I echo Vorch’s request for a guild calendar. That would make organizing things so much easier.
while the risen temple of Grenth is a fine example of very hard event
Is it? I mean, not trying to sound pedantic here, but it seems pretty straightforward if people communicate or define their roles in advance. What makes it fail is the lack of organisation in public groups, and the way a couple of players standing in the wrong place (i.e., on top of Jonez, making him get hit by ice) can effectively screw everyone else.
It’s certainly more complex and interesting than the typical GW2 dungeon boss (who just stands in one place going through his 3 attacks over and over again), but I’d still establish a difference between “very hard” (i.e., something that puts pressure even on coordinated groups, for its entire duration) and something like Grenth, which can simply fail suddenly due to the actions of a couple of players.
BTW, IMO that kind of encounter would make a lot more sense in dungeons (that currently have very simplistic bosses, with almost no environmental interaction) than in open-world areas (where players can’t really control the actions of “passers-by”).
A few missions haven’t even been completed by our internal testers yet (but they came extremely close).
Must resist temptation to point out that previous patches show some of your internal testers couldn’t find their own a… Must resist… Mustttt resisttt….!

how “hard” can they make it in open world??
instances are easier to be made challenging.
some higher level fractals i find are quite demanding, doable, but definitely not “faceroll”.
i jus think open world engame is… too uncontrollable.
that would be a “mmo revolution” for me, the day a thempark can make the open world as challenging as you can handle, progressively.
as it is now, open world endgame is for farmers only.
I imagine they will be like the halloween doors event? a event appears and all hell breaks lose for 5mins?
I just hope they aren’t boring and give fun merits, I have the largest guild on my server, I worry these events will only appeal to a small minority if they aren’t challenging or fun enough.
The Lost shores events were horribly boring zerg events for example

Barring the connection issues and lag, I actually enjoyed the massive war of attrition zerg.
I just wanted a AAA MMO with no sub made by ArenaNet. And it’s awesome.”

Please don’t make things up. Everyone knows that Achilles was shot in the heel, couldn’t keep up with the zerg and got taken out by a thief while straggling behind.
what kind of “reward” do you want?
Chest rewards that would make me happy include greens, yellows, golds, rare crafting items, T6 crafting items, BLSK, boosters (non-glory), mini-pets, food, cosmetics, weapon skins, and anything I can sell on the TP for more than 3g.
if everybody gets exotics in chest, they wont be worth much.
im always happy to see a dye.
but imho, they are being careful with drops, to keep the cash shop active with some staple items like ressurect/repair stuff, transmute stones etc…
its something we have to live with.
gw2 needs that cash shop.
which, probably makes loots a little more boring.

Well, no one is saying they have to be guaranteed drops. Simply having them in the rotation is what I was saying. I agree about the loot table. Getting too many rewards and making too much gold too fast is not going to be A-net’s idea of “working as intended.” A certain amount of pain has to be there; it’s good for their business interests.
I don’t really care about loot rewards from this system. If I had to choose unique things though, it would be new textured dyes, new high-end guild armor skins, and of course guild capes. Additional quality of life changes similar to the reduced waypoint cost would also be nice.

More greens – Yes.
More yellows – Hell Yes!
More golds – Rather not.
You mentioned selling items from more than 3g, but giving exotics more readily away will only lower their worth that much more.
But I agree, it would be great if ANet placed more emphasis on making chest attractive. I’m all forT6 mats, BL keys, boosts, skins, cosmetic items, unique consumables, and minis. Why not add dyes in there as well. I think it would be great if minis were introduced into the world through chests.
I’m also not saying these should be throw around like crazy, but it would be nice if every chest had at least one of these items.
Maybe these rewards should also be introduced as drops, albeit at a modest rate.

Problem is that they don’t need to fight for customers, because there is not other mmo that could cause danger. No monthly fees, why would you try to make the game attractive for someone who already paid his money?
I am seriously sick of this easy content. Not to mention reward will be same kitten like now.

Having people show up isn’t a weakness, it’s a good thing.
They just have to keep changing the gameplay up and learn to create monsters and events that are fighting and interacting with a SWARM simultaneously, not one or two people.
It’s impressive new territory so I’m willing to wait for them to really get it to be awesome, but I think they will.

You can already make your own WvW raid party with your guildies… so… kinda missing the point man.

right there, you are stating no other mmo could beat gw2.
right there, you just said its the BEST ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW.
take your pill, i hope this sickness will pass…

Well, Colin said guild missions are PvE exclusive when it launches, but he also said that it will branch out to other areas of the game. PvE is an ‘easy’ platform to launch it for, and when it goes over to WvW, then it’s going to be great. Just be patient.
Colin interviewed with the fine folk at MMORPG.com and gave some details about Guild Missions coming this month.
Meh… I dont expect anything different than grind/boredom. Stuff like “kill 200 enemies”, “kill 50 centaurs with combos”, “complete 10 events with at least 2 guildmates” and kitten like that. Of course, they will not say “kill 50 centaurs”, but “kill centaurs with some other kids” and put a completion bar.
Well, I was pretty excited for guild missions. Until I saw:
“Also, anyone who was in the guild that kicked off the mission receives an extra different type of reward, which can be traded in for a new category of personal guild rewards that can only be earned through the guild mission system.”
Because we definitely need another token system in the game on top of the 15+ we already have. Right. The thought of having to keep track of yet another currency is kind of depressing. Seriously, I know you guys are worried about the economy, but that doesn’t mean it’s OK to offload all the worrying on players as we try to balance the umpteen million different currencies we have to earn and store. Use karma, we need more use for it and it can’t really impact the TP anyway. Or one of the other token systems floating around cluttering up people’s banks.
aww yeah. eat that downers saying “gw2 losing people in droves” call Colin a liar all you like, but he said it right out.
Which is great. It’s good to hear that there are more players, absolutely.
Except he didn’t give any actual numbers. Did you notice that? The ANet team was out bragging to every news outlet about their sales and concurrency figures at the end of August, when the game was making money super-fast….but they’re not doing that now.
Have you noticed how we’ve not heard anything about the game’s concurrency numbers, except that “they’ve started going up again since the holidays”?
So let’s see….GW2 had 400k concurrent users prior to its official launch. So they could have dropped to 100k by December, then climbed to 105k in January. Yay, the concurrency numbers have “gone up”….but it’s not a very meaningful increase, is it?
I don’t doubt the truth of Colin’s statement, I just question how meaningful it really is. Usually when a company goes from bragging about their numbers to suddenly being very, very quiet about them, they’re doing it to hide a net loss. I’d be willing to bet that the concurrency numbers as of February are a hell of a lot lower than the 400k they had in August. Anyone want to try that bet?
And we know that ANet is okay with keeping hush hush on their numbers. Notice how they were really vocal about the 2 million mark in September, but then we didn’t hear anything more about how many units had been sold until January, where they finally revealed that it was 3 million. Why keep that quiet? Well, because it means they went from 2 million sales in two weeks….to only selling a bit over 1 million more over the course of over 4 months. That’s a huge drop off, and I’m betting the concurrency numbers are similar.
So yeah, they may have more people playing than in December, but that’s not a meaningful statistic. How many are still playing as compared to August is the stat I’d like to hear, because I’m betting it’s not as rosy. And there’s a reason for it. So hopefully the dev team will turn their act around and fix the problems that led to that decline.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
I hope this stuff is doable with about 10 Members. I dont like those big guildes we are just bunch of friends playing together. Maybe 20 People are in the Guild so i hope Anet takes this into consideration for creating content.
These super big events like World Bosses just ability lags like crazy and not really fun. The most fun i have with groups around 5-10 People.
hans, i can’t see it not scaling like any other event.

They didn’t say it was going to be a new token. It’s most likely going to be influence points. They’ll probably add more things the guild can spend influence points on.
no one said GIMME EXOTICS. if the reward is not worth it nobody will do it, its that simple, just look at all the other events being ignored in other zones. how about stuff you cant just get anywhere or a DECENT chance for that stuff, skins, temp items whatever. “generic defensive question followed by excessive ??”
seriously.

People still do jumping puzzles even though the reward isn’t really worth the time you put into them. The reward is actually in the completion of the jumping puzzle. When you are at the end and you see the treasure chest you aren’t thinking that you’re going to get something nice. You’re proud of your own accomplishment and there is no greater reward than that.

It can’t be influence – it’s supposed to be only earnable through the guild mission system, and we can earn influence lots of other ways. Also, it’s talking about ‘personal’ guild rewards, so it sounds like it’s a reward for each individual person who was in the guild. So either a new token, or a new currency in the inventory screen, which is a little better but not by much. Still another thing we have to track and manage. It’s just really frustrating to have to try and manage all these different kinds of currencies when I just want to have fun and be able to get what I want.
Well, maybe it’s not influence but Colin did bring up an example of one of the rewards. I believe it was cheaper waypoints. I’m thinking cheaper repairs, higher magic find, etc. will also be included. As for how you earn these rewards that remains a mystery. If ANet goes the same route Blizzard did then you would have to level up with your guild in order to access these rewards. It would promote guild loyalty and curb guild hopping.
Great now they are going be guilds like McDonalds & Co. Great ! So happy =) not . The rewards i guess will be like the current upgrades but still hate monopolization and that’s what big guilds will do .
10 more days – is your guild ready?
Looking forward to the Guild Missions but also have some decent fears for them.
Not really regarding difficulty scale, but more that larger guilds with more influence income can host more, ergo, more will join them, Larger guilds will grow larger, smaller will wither and die if they can;t keep up..
I hope the influence cost is low enough for smaller guilds to host these events as well, with decent rewards, or this feature could cause a giant rift in the community.
But I do welcome the new additions regardless.
