Hey, I would like a word removed from the filter. I already spent three hours back and forth with support before they threw their hands up in the air declaring they have no way of changing filtering (which I presumed) and no way to communicate with devs (which makes no kitten sense but whatever).

What/how/where/who to talk to or whatever to get it this sort of thing changed?

Edit: I’m not here for players opinions about queer people. If you wanna be queerphobic, I dunno make your own thread about it or whatever it is you people do. Support said this was the only way to get in contact with the devs shrugs Take it up with them that I am in the forum doing this.

queer. it’s not on the regular filters as far as i can tell

support even said it’d be fine to spell it in some other fashion to get around the filter so it’s apparently not a big deal

Just turn chat filters off; and it’s quite queer that you want queer removed from the filter since it’s generally used in quite a vicious manner.

oh yeah i don’t mean the chat filters btw. Look at the thread title? It’s the guild name filter. Like I said, support said it was fine to go around the filter. They just said there is no way for them to talk to the dev team. Which seems really unbelievable and not at all useful. They said posting in the forum was the way for me to get in contact with the dev team. shrug I dunno man they’re the ones that said it.

Maybe you should not worry about showing in game what kind of person you want to have real life relationship with so much. Is it so important to say that to everyone in game so make it in guild name? I do not have problem with gay people and support right to have relationship with person of choice but no need to advertise all over the place their preference. Most people not really care what a person relationship preference is. I do not make guild name “Not gay” or “Prefer women” no one really care.

I tried searching for filter and guild name and so on and couldn’t find any. But this is what support said to do

It’s still literally a slur that still hurts people. Another example would be some black people have been and are reclaiming the n-word but that doesn’t mean they should allow it in guild names. I’m all for reclaiming slurs that have hurt us but tbh it’s still a slur, and thus shouldn’t be allowed in guild names.

my identity is not a slur. I tell you this as an LGBTQ person. Support already said it is fine. I can even go around the filter if I want. Again, I’m not here about your opinion of queer people. I wouldn’t even be here except support told me this is the only way to contact the devs.

They’re claiming they have no way to talk to the dev team. They said this was the only way to get in touch with the dev team. I did not want to do this in a video game forum for so many, many reasons. Just go away.

I just need a speak to a dev. I tried to do this privately through support. I’m not interested in a tiny inconsequential percentage of players that want to argue about how invalid I am. I could just get on twitter to do that.

Context is everything… Fairy and fruitcake aren’t banned words but I hear them used a lot more then queer to refer to homosexuals… hell “gay” is technically a slur and most gamers including myself use it in a negative way – regardless of sexuality.

@Pixy We can’t have nice things because of people like @I See No Tomorrow. Though q.ueer means “odd” and has pretty much disappeared from American vernacular whether it be as a slur or as originally intended some people can’t get over the fact that some people use the word with a negative intent.

You are going to have to come up with something a bit more clever… just avoid the word Sanctuary so I don’t have to roll my eyes every time I group with you in PvP. While most people don’t care what people call themselves or their guilds even if you get special permission to use the name in all likelihood you will constantly be fighting to keep it depending on who is reviewing the name reports that day.

Look if you want to discuss the ways in which you’re homophobic please private message me cause it’s a bit off topic.

Primary reason in this post: “don’t tell everyone you’re different” which indicates that being straight is the norm and thus everyone else deviates from the norm. Also your advice is “stay in the closet and let everyone assume you’re straight” which is literally what people do to avoid violence. You’re still homophobic, try again.

I will not debate with some person that feel violated every place because of preference for relationship when most do not care about what a person want in relationship. We can have plenty of nice things if their support is willing to take the time to kick off people who are bigots. Which apparently they’re willing to do since alternatives to the specific spelling of queer are fine. I just need a dev to do it and this is apparently the only way to get that to happen >.<

And this is a forum for all who have purchased GW2. You should have expected players to chime in with their view on whether or not queer should be or should not be part of the guild name filter. And you should have realized that given the nature of the request, that there would be people on the other of the argument who would chip in with legit reasons for their side.

No one is saying you are invalid in any way.

They’re just saying that currently, when most people see the word queer, they associate it with the slur and get offended themselves or get offended for others. And that this would just cause support more tickets from people reporting the name, even if it wasn’t used in a derogatory fashion. And as such, should remain on the filter list until it is reclaimed.

Then don’t act like people are breaking any rules or doing anything wrong when they post. You aren’t very likely to get a dev response. They’ll read the thread, but they likely won’t respond. And any response is likely to come from not a dev. Such as from Gaile.

Just because Support told you it was fine, doesn’t mean they sent a mail out to every player saying it’s fine to have queer in a guild name if it’s not used offensively. People will still likely report your guild name for being offensive and bypassing the filter to do so, even though Support says it’s fine. However, they have to investigate every report and as such, takes time away from other reports and other tickets.

Why don’t you try posting in Account Issues, which is what this is, and where Michael might see it. He is the ‘Dev’ that would/could communicate your desire to those that might be in a position to change the coding.

I don’t know how normal people think, I’m autistic. But I don’t think any of the things you said. I’m not a slur and my identity isn’t offensive. I’m glad support at least agree with me so when I do get to make the guild despite the extra work I’m not the problem. I’ve been support, one thing that didn’t bother me was working on support tickets. In fact I rather liked it, it assured I got a paycheck every month.

Yes, a support person in fact just emailed me saying that I wouldn’t actually get a dev response, at least not very likely. Inconvenient but since that’s how things apparently work, I’m gonna go ahead and abandon the forums. Game forums seem almost always entirely full of people wanting to tell the OP they’re wrong. Back to lurking which I’m sure will be a happier time for everyone!

You can “report” your own initial post and ask the moderator to move the thread to the other forum. (It’s night time though and possibly none are on till the morning so it might be hours before the mod reads your request).
