Guild Rename Contract
That’s a possibility. If they got a name contract service in the gem store, why not a guild name changer.
I realize this is an old thread, but I know that the release of such an option would be celebrated in the community.
The the name of the guild I created at launch with a few close friends no longer represents what we are about, with our return to the game. We don’t want to lose our minimal perks, but a new identity with our homecoming would be grand.
If you agree, please show arenanet your interest! C:

Didn’t feel like creating a new topic eh?
Great idea.
There are, of course, social issues that will come up: who gets to decide on the new name? is a vote required? can people veto it, if they have sufficient rank? how much does it cost? who pays? and so on. Still, a lot of guilds regret their original name, but have no way to transfer the influence/improvements later.

I think it was entirely appropriate to rez this thread: Steeldragon is asking for the same thing.
Steeldragon is asking for the same thing.
So are you apparently.
Wait, I just did it again! :O
is a vote required?
On the one hand I’d say people are free to come and go as they please, and that it’d be up to the guild leader if he/she wants to risk losing players due to the new [PIMP]/[KITTY] tag above their heads (although, would totally stay for [KITTY]).
On the other :< leaving a guild after putting in time and… more time, to growing it’s resources / infrastructure might be a tough decision for some.
As quoted, gut decision would be to go with the voting method, though I’ve no idea how it would account for absent players, what numbers / percentages would be needed to agree within both large and tiny guilds. Suppose it’d be a bit much for the game to work out the mean number of accounts active in a guild within a week, and ask for a % of those to agree, (edit) perhaps within designated time. Activating the contract = 7 day countdown until changes take place? Would then be necessary for the guild to organise it, to make everyone aware, before the event, plenty of time for people to voice opinions no? /stops rambling.
Although it doesn’t affect me, I think the option would be nice! How to implement though, it’s too late to be thinking such things /scratches beard some more

According to Gaile, the reason why guilds with offensive names are shut down is because there is no way to edit guild names. It’s not that they won’t, they can’t. By extension that would mean no guild name change contracts.

They’ve figured out a way to change guild names now.
But the logistics of it is likely why it’s not allowed in game. Which was brought up in this thread earlier.
The difference between changing a guild name and changing a character name is that changing a guild name affects more than one player. Something worth considering.

My point is that it isn’t trivial to implement a guild rename contract: there are lots of design decisions and no good way to help guilds manage the inevitable and awkward social aspects.
So it’s a high-cost, high-risk feature, with only limited appeal. I think it’s unlikely to get a green light.

So, changing one database field isn’t trivial? Right… (and if it’s not that easy, it’s their own fault for making terrible design choices)
And who cares if guilds can’t manage the “inevitable and awkward social aspects?” It’s none of ANet’s concern what stupid drama goes on inside guilds. That’s gonna be happening one way or another. If the guild leader wants to change the name, he/she should be able to do so at will; everyone else can deal with it.
