Why is the Guild Roster/History showing my e-mail for —> me <--?
I see my own e-mail after my character name in-game instead of Account-name.xxxx, why?
I used a friend to check that others can’t see it but still, why is it even there? It just makes you nervous about it when you see that.

They can help you. None of the community members nor the forum staff (based on previous responses given to people with this exact issue) can help you.
Because it is private, spammers can start spamming you, it is your login name and they ll know which e-mail to hack in order to get around the e-mail authentication. Also many people use the same password. Guess the e-mail password and you ll have full access to someones account. If this is shown it is a security disaster waiting to happen. Also, they can also try all other MMOs with the same e-mail & password.
This information should not be communicated, only upon login. Imagine a client hack that retrieves all e-mails from the guild panel.
Tell ya what, let everyone know your email address on here in full view, then sit back and watch how many spams you get …. that’s just one effect, annoying yes earth shattering.. maybe, maybe not.
But then consider how many other places you might use that email address as usernames etc.. other games, Bank accounts, social networking etc etc.
Then consider there are many sophisticated methods out there which are used in cyber crimes to lift out a password from you.. then all those spams suddnly become more directed and probing until something sticks and bingo.. you just lost mom and dads life savings.
Now picture yourself walking through New York City on the first day of your 4 day break over New Year holidays… then you go to purchase dinner, only to find your card is declined due to lack of funds.. then find out someone mysteriosly debited £1500 from it a few hours previous via paypal, which just happens to use email and password authentification and some Eastrn European got lucky and manged to hack it and do a nice little transaction in your name…
Sounds far fetched ya think – well that happened to me 2 years ago… the smallest detail gives a crook that much extra leverage in their cybercrime shenanigans.
Which is why I wrote that only I can see it, the question is WHY I can even do that the is no pratical function. I already know my e-mail obviously.
It’s a client side display issue – a bug. Support won’t be able to do anything except tell you it’s a known bug. Since only you can see it, it’s not a security risk and as such ArenaNet believes it is not an issue, meaning it’ll get fixed whenever they get around to it.
And since we are having an official thread with Gaile Gray´s posts inside (check Healix´s link), we encourage you to keep on posting there. We close this one to avoid duplicates of the same issues. Thanks for your understanding.
