If I were to buy and play Guild Wars 1 at this very moment, can I still get the titles in the Hall of the Monuments in Guild Wars 2? If yes then around how long will it take?

Yes, you can still get them…but it depends on which titles you’d want to get. For example, getting the GWAMM title would take quite a long time, where as getting some of the other titles could be done very quickly.

Most people don’t get Guild Wars 1 for the titles, but they get them to unlock skins.

This isn’t true. They said from the very beginning you’d always be able to get them, even after Guild Wars 2 launched. That never changed. They were never meant to be “exclusive”.

It will take a decent amount of time.. You would need to finish all of the campaigns, unlock alternate armours for all the Nightfall heroes and get some minipets in order to get some of the easiest points.

Only buy GW1 if you actually want to play and will enjoy it. There is a free trial, I STRONGLY suggest you take advantage of that. It’s not the kind of game you will want to play just to get titles if you don’t enjoy it. If you do try it and find that you enjoy it, then you probably won’t mind working through the game to get titles.

“I don’t know exactly what the timing will be, but I will tell you that we aren’t going to allow new players to Guild Wars 2 to go back and get those items in the Hall of Monuments. Our intent is to reward players who are playing Guild Wars right now…So I can’t imagine that we’ll let somebody coming into Guild Wars six months after Guild Wars 2 ships and letting them have rights to all of the same opportunities our original players had.”

I got down to below 500 hours but since I had a lot of experience(already had 3 gwamms plus full HoM) and knew what to do and had all the money to do so, you’re looking at 600-1000hours starting from scratch, if you can do that for a title in another game I applaud you.

A quote without a reference or the full context. I do remember reading that response from a dev at some point, however the interpretation at the time was “we will not be adding some in game method in Guild Wars 2 that allows people to get these things without ever playing Guild Wars 1”.

This is what I remember too. They said they wouldn’t allow people to get that stuff without playing Guild Wars 1, but I was there from the very beginning and I remember the question being asked very early and Anet said you’ll be able to go back and continue to get HoM rewards.

Actually it was clearly stated originally that only original GW players would be able to access the HoM rewards and new players couldn’t purchase GW1 just to attain them. It was however only said once and at a rather early point, they pretty quickly changed their minds (for obvious reasons). So regardless of whether the person who said it originally was misinformed or whatever it was originally said like that. But it really doesn’t matter…

They dumbed down the game so much in the later years that it ruined the game and made it too easy. Look at a HoM guide online and you should have no problems.

What? .__.; It took you, a veteran who’d already done it once- 1 year of 2 hours and half /a day of playing and a guide to accomplish it. I’ve started playing gw1 ~1 month ago, and it doesn’t feel that way at all. There’s a lot of stuff going on in the game for people who’re new. It might take me two years of 3 hrs/a day to get anywhere near 50 points.

I never used a guide. I was advising the OP to use a guide, and answering his question.

They made a lot of the titles easier to get so it shouldn’t be as bad now.
