Is it worth buying? And if so, could I attain the achievement of god amongst mere mortals and the dragon fire sword skin?? Are these achievements still obtainable?? Can it be a solo thing or do I need multiple players?? Is it a possibility?

It is worth buying, the game is great! But if you only look for that achievement, then no it will take you many months to get it. Most of it is soloable tho.
Also bare in mind that you might find the game outdated and it is. Still worth it!

You mean the sword too right? Well that’s too bad, I really wanted that as an end goal if I would have bought it.

You only need 10 HoM points for the Fiery Dragon Sword. You get 3 just for linking your GW and GW2 accounts. It’s not especially difficult to get the FDS.

Now, GWAMM is very time-consuming. That would be one of the ultimate rewards.

I’m not even sure you could accomplish it in months anymore, it literally might take a year plus of grinding unless you have absolutely nothing else to do but play Guild Wars 10+ hours a day.

I tried, and it’s just too ugly. GW2 is such a leap ahead in terms of, well, everything, that it may be more trouble than it’s worth.

it’s quite easy, i did it with just a few titles and my minipet collection (altough, i had quite a few years of time to collect them back then)
i would suggest to take nightfall and eye of the north for a speedy trip to the fiery sword, plenty of titles to do and enough to get you started with everything.

that said, the game seriously the one game to play, i still love it despite the underpopulated places.

Sword would be pretty easy. I’d think you could do that in a few weeks honestly.

well, unlike GW2 they are all games that work without the other, there is even a bundle where you have prophecies and eye of the north to get all of tyria opened up.

I just checked Steam, the trilogy is $30, individual games are $20, and the Eye of the North expansion you would need with one of the base titles if you wanted the Guild Wars 2 unlocks is $20. If you want the cheapest offer available right now, Guild Wars Platinum edition has Prophecies and Eye of the North for $20 on the Guild Wars website or Amazon. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they run sales on Guild Wars regularly anymore so you probably won’t find it cheaper than that.

I personally enjoyed Guild Wars more than Guild Wars 2 with its more thoughtful combat and more focused story (if you don’t mind reading most of it). Things to note now are that the Guild Wars servers are rather slow, so your first download is going to be limited by their speed. Prophecies has the slowest leveling speed, but probably the cheapest elite armor for the armor collection points and the most content, Factions was the most PvP focused with its features and probably has the steepest difficulty spike when you get close to max level, Nightfall is close to Factions’ leveling speed but also includes the easiest hero upgrade point unlocks, and Eye of the North is required if you want to actually unlock things in Guild Wars 2 though it includes a lot less content than any of the other titles (and is the only version to require another title to play).

I think GW is in that weird place where ANet doesn’t want to promote it because they want most of their playerbase on GW2 for obvious reasons. But they still of course love the game so they don’t wanna drop it entirely either.

Hence why it’s still going and why there’s been no sales for it at all.

Yes, I started in GW1 specifically because I saw someone wearing the fiery dragon sword and asked them about it. I now have my fiery dragon sword skin. Those rewards are still being earned.

GW1 is still strong. It has an amazing story and some of the people there are really great. I think it compares VERY favorably to gw2 in terms of quality and story.

Having said that. It will likely feel quite awkward at first.

GW1 is a significantly different game in many ways and you will have to do a lot more on your own ( and with your henchies and heroes.) Take time and get used to the different mechanics.

Where you would just mob through in GW2 you pretty much have to make it on your own in many places in gw1.

I bought the whole package for $50, $30 for Trilogy and $20 for Eye of the North. It was all for Fiery Dragon Sword, i think i got the 10 HoM points needed within 10 days.

For me, GW1 really worth it even at that price because the quality of the game is real. Only bad thing from playing GW1 is that when u get back on GW2 u unconsciously tap space to attack for the first 10 minutes

I started GW1 mostly because of lore reasons (only figured out the link rewards when researching what/how to buy it and consider those just a bonus)

The game is definitely still very much playable, just follow one of the guides on builds and how to acquire/set-up your henchmen and you should be good.

Also don’t make the mistake of starting with Prophecies, as I did, while the start is really cool (pre-Searing Ascalon!) and definitely worth playing through (if only to meet Logan’s ancestor) the campaign is really really slow (quests give very little XP compared to the other campaigns) and it also very much shows it’s the oldest of the bunch (the landscapes early on, after the Searing, being extremely bleak and monotonous doesn’t help either)

That said, if the graphics, the fairly “static” (almost all skills root you in place) and inability to jump are turn-offs then I’d advise not to bother. If the only reason to play through is for the rewards then I don’t think it’s worth it, the game is huge after all and if you’re not going to enjoy the time spent on it…

Shame you won’t be buying it. Guild Wars 1 is an amazing game. So is Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North and Guild Wars Beyond content that Anet sadly never finished.

If you do decided to buy it don’t compare it to Guild Wars 2. In my mind they are two different types of games.

Guild Wars 2 is a dumb down online mmorpg. Guild Wars 1 is in a way a more traditional mmorpg.

You might feel a little overwhelmed with Guild Wars 1 with being able to duel class and the crap ton of skills. Many mission require thought and being prepared meaning having to change up your build if you plan on soloing it and/or using henchmen and/or Heros.

In my mind Guild Wars 1 is the better game. Much MUCH better story across the base game and all 3 expansions and the Guild Wars Beyond content. Missions are actual missions that again require thought and not just spamming skills until everything is dead.

Downside to Guild Wars 1 for players coming from Guild Wars 2 is:
1. When you leave a town or outpost and go into a world map, that map is dedicated to you ONLY, so you won’t run across other players outside of towns and outposts.
2. In Guild Wars 1 there is no trading post, only player to player trading. So expect to spam “looking to buy”, “looking to sell” or “price check on (insert item)” in chat.
3. Builds mean so much more in Guild Wars 1 than Guild Wars 2. You will find yourself being killed a lot. One build may be great for certain missions but horrible for others.
4 Dying in Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall during a mission means you lost the mission and have to start back at the beginning. In Eye of the North when you die you can revive at the last checkpoint.
5 Getting material to make new armor requires you to farm nonstop or spam chat with “Looking to buy (insert item)”.
6. Achievements in Guild Wars 1 actually have to be earned. They aren’t just handed to you.

Since they aren’t even bringing back dervish and paragon in POF, I’m thinking I might not buy it and play GW1 again, instead. It’s made me miss playing those classes. And I want to play ritualist again. Plus the storyline is becoming dumb and Kas and Marjory make me cringe. I love the original team with Eir and Ritlock. Also they’ve lost Jeremy Soule. The HOT soundtrack was bad. I doubt POF will be any better. There’s less and less reasons to play GW2 for me.

I still enjoy playing GW1. It just has something that GW2 lacks. I think it’s the team building aspect. Of course, my perspective comes from someone who has been playing since 2005.

The game may be difficult to get into. The lack of a strong playerbase means you’ll be playing with heroes/henchmen most of the time. The in game economy is in shambles, which can make it difficult for a new player to earn the more money oriented titles like drunkard/sweet tooth/party animal, or to outfit an entire team of heroes.

On the bright side, once you’ve made enough progress through each campaign to farm Nick gifts each week, you can get a pretty steady income going.

I would recommend at least giving it a try. All of the item rewards for the hall of monuments only require 30 points, most of which are fairly easy to acquire. Getting 50/50 takes quite a bit more time (I actually only have 49/50…CBA to finish legendary skill hunter) and GWAMM takes longer still. Though, if you do everything on one character, getting 50/50 will have you very near GWAMM. I however, spread all of my titles out across 5 or 6 different characters…so I don’t have GWAMM either.

LOL at that, I did the same thing coming back to GW2.

It was a great game and can be soloed thanks to Heroes, not sure how well it aged though.

Doing the achievements for the item unlocks is easy enough, after the first few tiers it only gives additional titles, the last of those can take ages to get.

if you just want the FDS, you can get it in around 20-30 hours easy.

you can also solo 30/50 HoMM.

GW1 is… different, but still good.

Guild wars 1 is a game that ages like a fine wine.
Even now its a most delicate drink you will enjoy

I have GWAMM on multiple accounts. It’s solo-able but very time consuming. The first GWAMM took me roughly 6months on my main account. Afterwards I was able to do it in 3months or so on other accounts. To pull it off in 3months though, you have to be very dedicated to it. Pretty much no-life grind. GW1 may also appear difficult at times once you start doing Hard Mode due to party size restrictions in certain areas and time-gated missions. You will need to use exploits to complete some of these mission bonuses as they are otherwise near impossible, especially if you’re doing it solo.

If money isn’t an issue, I’d say go ahead and buy it. It’s a great game and some of the HoM rewards are pretty neat. But if I were you, I would skip getting GWAMM and just do HoM for the FDS sword skin.

beyond the FDS there are other rewards that are really worth it.
the widow is really a worthy pet to go for, the fellblade really fits a dark butcher warrior, the shield is perfect for a guardian themed character, etc…

my point is, if you think the 50 bucks isn’t worth all that then i suppose you never buy anything from the gem store ether, it costs allot more to by 1 skin from the store then a whole package you get from all the GW1 games.

GW1 is most definitely worth buying! Though pricey considering it’s age and size of the playerbase, you will find it worth it once you get into it. It’s soloable, the story in Prophecies and all the expansions is great and you have astonishing amount of freedom in regards to what kind of spec you want to run! Really the rewards from HoMM are just a bonus and I really enjoyed every step of the way to 30 points solo

IMO it is worth it and a better game than GW2 as it is now. GW2 was a better game before all the hero points/Masteries grind it has turned into.

I just want to stress that without a care for the achievement rewards you should still play gw1 because the anthalogy had an unrivalled story and experience

Guild Wars is still very much worth it. The story is great, especially that of Prophecies. Don’t expect GW2 like graphics, but the game still looks very beautiful.

Most content can be played solo with henchmen or heroes to complete your team. (Heroes require the Nightfall or Eye of the North expansions) But getting to the God Walking Amonsgst Mere Mortals is a very large task which requires you to get some help for some of the missions bonus objectives. For example: There are some missions where you need to actively keep a NPC alive while you need to get secondary objectives. Some other missions require you to split up and defend multiple points.

For me, achieving GWAMM took almost 10 years, but other players have completed in much less time. Still, it is not something to take on lightly. You don’t need to obtain GWAMM for Hall of Monuments rewards tho. You can try ans see how far you get and unlock rewards along the way.

Everything about GW1 was an enjoyable experience. The story was nice and exploring the world was so much fun. Anet really messed up on the achievements in GW2, they went with the quantity over quality route for achievements for GW2. In GW1 achievements were more streamlined and you didn’t need to have multiple characters to get some of the achievements. The achievements were actually challenging to get and took time, but it was an enjoyable experience, all the way through legendary vanquisher. Many of the achievements in GW2 feel gimmicky and broken, making it a frustrating experience. I haven’t been able to play anything else that was as enjoyable as GW1, I still get on it every now and then.

Don’t expect it to be easy to get GWAMM right off the bat. Play GW1 because the story is better than GW2 and the combat has meaning besides pressing 1-5 until the enemy is dead.
