These lists are always really really subjective but it’s always an interesting read, but i guess these ign guys spend alot more times playing/reviewing games than i do, so their opinion’s worth something atleast.

To be honest, I actually think GW2 should be number 25. Total War Shogun looks pretty interesting.

Well I’ve got 500 hours on Total War Shogun 2…
Best Strategy Game ever made, because the latest game of the Total War series, Rome II, pretty much flopped for me. But it’s kinda hard to tell for those 2 completly different genres if Guild Wars 2 is better as a game.

I saw Dragon Age, and Skyrim on the list. HIGHLY overrated games IMHO. Subjective indeed.

Quality Ratings and lists are always subjective. There are games out there that are basically the same thing with just different wrapping. The only real difference is the story. Back then some games were great even without story. Pong anyone?

That reminds me. Tetris… another highly overrated game. I hate Tetris.

You can no longer play burning crusade, so they put the latest WoW installment I guess.

Objectively and superficially GW2 is a great game.

Anyone who tested it for a month or more will have given it a great review. So the positive feedback isn’t completely unjustified.

It’s only once you really play this game for a while and in-depth that some of the flawed design-decisions begin to show their ugly face.

From the frustrating Overflow system during popular events.
To the shallow class-system
To the poor implementation of Ascended Gear.
To poor balance of WvW.
To questionable class balance.
To lack of evolution outside of Living Story Content.
To limitations imposed by the engine.
Etc.

That wouldn’t explain not including Oblivion. PC Gamer for example put Oblivion as their 3rd best PC game of all time.

And it deserves it. You’re probably thinking of The Old Republic, the mmo that came out a few years ago. They’re talking about the original Knights of the Old Republic, one of the best rpgs to date.

I have to disagree with that one. IMO: The vast majority of the console games are pure crud, and the good ones that do come on the consoles, the vast majority of them come to the PC anyways. Also I would say the best PC games are far far better then any of the best console games.

Looking at that list, I would have put Torchlight 2, Guild Wars 2, and The Witcher 2 much higher on those lists, Witcher 2 should have been very close to the top.

Every time I read one of these top # reviews I cannot help but wonder just how much real $$$ the games at the top of the list paid for that position. It may be a jaded way of looking at things, but life has taught me honestly and pride are usually overruled by greed and ego.

At least Fallout 3 is up there. Portal 2 is nice, but I don’t know how it beats Fallout. Skyrim, probably.

it says gw2 doesnt havea grind in the review. clearly theyre basing this off of when they first played it months ago

The power of G mod. I wouldn’t look at in terms of first place being a better game than the other 24.

I agree it is. Skyrim then FO New Vegas are my top 2.

I like HL 2 a lot but its too much on rails for me to mark it that high.

And you know, Anet’s Ascended Introduction plan was fiendishly clever.

They waited until two months after launch, when all the reviews had been written, and the journalist/tourists were gone before they did their 180.

They can have their cake and eat it too, on-going good press based on that window, and slave-grinding for the marks.

It is PC only, AND it is done by IGN. IGN rate based on how much advertising revenue (bribes) they are given.

Seems there’s a reasonable bias toward more recent games.

World in Conflict should be on that list too.

You’d be complaining a lot less about the “frustrating overflow system” if you spent time early on in Rift or SWToR queues waiting to get into the game to play at all. I once waited 2 hours in a Rift queue in the early days. Two hours of my three hours I had to play in a queue. The overflow system was a solution to a major probably, however imperfect.

The evolution of content outside the Living Story? Really? How do most MMOs evolve content? Oh, expansions. The game is out barely over a year. A lot of games don’t have their first expansion pack till a year and a half to two years. It’s still a young game.

And content has evolved…and will continue to evolve.

The rest of it is pretty good though.

Second this, the original Knights of the Old Republic (single player RPG) is one of the best. It’s sad that they don’t make them like they used to.

You’re right other games are bad.

I cannot take seriously a list that have WoW: MoP instead of Vanilla WoW or Burning Crusade WoW.

And

Mass Effect 2 instead of Mass Effect 1.

Wow if that’s the best 25 modern games of the past 10 years, i’d say the games genre is in a shameful state..

Honestly 20 or so of those are just rehashed crap.

Seems IGN either was paid well for those games or they put like 2 minutes of thought into that list.

This list is a joke

Dota 2, the WoW expansion that broke most players, a handful of dinky little no-name titles like FTL and Homeworld, and then the atypical Valve rabid fanboy games. These don’t deserve to be in the top 1000, let alone 25. This wasn’t made by a journalist this was made by some no account hipster.

This. Game review sites all seem really corrupt.

Its IGN… Complete bias and a random collection of games that they consider “good”.

For example, how can Half-Life 2 be top of the list? There where plenty of games afterwards that improved on what HL2 brought (ie physics). Why isnt BC2/BF3 on the list for example? They complete rewrote the book on physics destruction in modern multiplayer games. How can Homeworld 2 count as a “modern” game, yet BF3 apparently isnt modern. HW2 didnt even do anything that Homeworld and Cataclysm didnt – many still consider the first two the better games.

Hah! yeah. I’ve made custom followers. Really makes the game so much better. What’s better than having your own personal army of ninja-pirate assassins? I don’t know…

And yes, New Vegas had more character. Wonderful game. It is often overlooked though. I bought mine at game stop and the guy was like “you going to buy THAT?!?”. Seriously. Great game.

And right, battlefield is my top fps. Odd none of them made the list. Though my personal fav was 2142. So many hours… never made supreme commander though But my voss was 30 to 1, not shabby at all. <3 the night maps.

personally i think GW2 has nothing “modern”.
I won t discuss if it is a good game or not, but for sure uses most of Lineage 2 and WoW formulas and every patch is pushed more in that direction.
