Guild Wars 2: Factions
I loved and still love gw1 factions, hopefully it will somehow be reintroduced in gw2.

Hated factions. Worst part of GW1. All it did was create guilds that required minimum amounts of factions be donated each day by members. Hope to never see anything like that again in GW2.
I think there first expansion (whether they release it as a real expansion or not) will be factions. Thats because the living story seems to be going towards that. Scarlet has set up multiple alliances and there was always one or more playable races involved in that. By not all races have been involved.
In addition to that the Tengu Yuki Honestcrest says:
This is our dwelling, the Dominion of Winds. We keep watch from this perch as power shifts and the world is transformed. We must soon determine with whom we will fight and with whom we will ally.
What also seems to point to factions. We do not know Scarlets goal or vision but why would that not be something you as player could be in favor of? If so then you basically have your factions.
The question then is how they will implement it.
Devata you are aware that Tengu are native to Tyria not Cantha right?

I thought the sensali Tengu were native to Cantha.

Nobody forced you to do it. Why didn’t you join a guild whose members were dedicated to that?

Although there were 2 tribes in Cantha the Tengu were not native to it .
From the wiki
“When the Great Tsunami of Zhaitan’s rise occurred, the tengu across the world saw it as a sign to return home and traveled to Tyria, a descendant of Talon Silverwing leading a charge through Zhaitan’s risen forces. When they reached Tyria, they built the Dominion of Winds which resides in Kryta over what was once known as Sanctum Cay. Out of fear of a repeated past, they constructed a great wall to encircle the Dominion of Winds. Non-tengu are not allowed to enter their city.1”

This wiki segment does not have the right source. So keep looking.
Correct… Sensali Tengu are from Cantha. There are, however, sects of Tengu and Avicara all over Tyria. Most notably the evil ones just north of Droknar’s Forge.
OT: While I liked Factions for what it was, the idea of having to gain a bazillion guild influence in order to purchase a town (or qualify to fight for it) sounds like one more currency (guild influence) grind this game doesn’t need. No thank you.
IF they ever release some “Canthan” content, I do think it would be a hoot if we were to find the Kurzicks and the Luxons were still duking it out for territory. That way the option to “control” a city or town would be optional, and it wouldn’t affect too many who didn’t want to participate.
Factions was what made the Guildwars Franchise it is today, Nightfall actually made me stop playing Guildwars funnily..

If I just said I did not like it for that reason, why would I join a guild that did that then? Your suggestion makes no sense.
But to answer your question, I was and still am a leader of my own guild in GW1. I did not like the way some guilds forced their players to farm faction daily to remain members so there was no way I would ever quit my own guild and join another guild that I did not like.
Factions was not a fun area to play in. Parts of it where just plain ugly and depressing to play in, and the whole idea of “factions” was poorly implemented and added nothing to the game.
Personally I always felt that Factions was the most rushed of all the Guild Wars campaigns. The story was disappointing and shallow, and a lot of the explorables were packed way too tightly with annoying enemies. Also, all the bosses received a damage buff (boss damage was effectively doubled for Factions enemies), that caused a lot of wipes.
How ever the setting was beautiful, and I loved having access to oriental weapons and armors (Factions had some really good outfits). I also liked the Afflicted, who were a pretty original enemy to fight. The idea of territory control was nice, although the constant grinding for faction, was tedious. Factions did bring us The Deep and Urgoz Warren, which were really good dungeons. I’d love to see Cantha return for GW2.
If you’ve never played GW Factions, watch the cinematic opening for that expansion on youtube. It is awesome.

Kurzick and Luxon got defeated by the imperial army.
If something like Cantha expansion get realeased in the future you probably gona get a civil war, becouse other non human species got also banned from Cantha.
