" first Trademark registration since the game was initially released"

You mean LONG before the game released? Because the trademarks took place A LONG time before release i believe.

Doesn’t change the fact that this is the first trademark registration since the game was released.

I said nothing at all about the registration of the Guild Wars 2 trademark. I just used release as a point of reference.

I know. I am just reinforcing your statement.

The Hype Train rolls on, fueled by tryhards who won’t be happy without an expansion, even though Living Story can deliver any amount of new content for free. They’ll keep hyping and hyping until the announcement, then blame ANet for not stopping them from looking like the idiots they are. After that comes the next wave of doomsday prophecies, then the “I’m quitting” posts, and in 6 months they’ll all be right back here again.

I only wish the last thing you said was true. Sadly so many friends and acquaintances left a long time ago and they are not even considering coming back.
No idea what makes you think that.

Well Anet stayed silent too long. If this isn’t an expansion they are going to have some major marketing fallout, and the game will suffer. Doesn’t matter what they intended or planned, or if the communities expectations are reasonable or not. They kept the community too content starved for too long, and now they are going to either have to deliver or pay the consequences.

What community? The loud internet community (forum made if the same 100 people who constantly post their anger?), reddit.community or the majority not part of any community?

You can live in your dream world where the majority of people are happy, but my statement stands, and time will show it to be true. Plus everyone ingame already knows about this, It was the only thing being talked about in map chat in the 5 maps that I visited this morning.

Living Story is not delivering any promotional impact in the market. People outside the GW2 community have 0 interest in the Living World and the system itself has very bad reputation.

Yeah, it is great to get things for free. However, if Anet can’t find a new way of making an impact in the market, it will be a matter of time before the game gets emptied. GW2 already has lost of its’ former popularity due to the bad reputation it has gotten when it comes to its’ update-model. Living Story is great at delviering interesting updates that usually keep people playing. However, it is far from a model that can make a commercial impact.

The “Heart of Thorns” is basically the epicenter of where these thorn vines are sprouting from; also known as Morde’s lair.

A better name for Season 2 is exactly what they have been using: “Point of No Return”

Many of us want more skills, weapons, races and classes. These are the expectations we have been told about months and months ago, yet we only got 9 new (useless and expensive) healing skills. So these are our expectations: what we have seen for the past two years is not the full potential of ANet. If what we had was the best they could do… I can make a better game on RPG Maker…

- But what if the game was like RPG Maker and the stuff you can make is limited by what the engine is capable of doing? You’ll see them making tokens, skins and new maps because fixing something fundamental like bad UI and collision problems is beyond their abilities.

Then I would simply say their game don’t deserve the “GW” name. There are things that are unavoidable (or really difficult to fix), but many of their releases aren’t even tested (and if they are… Well the testers don’t do much).

They shouldn’t focus on being too different, they should focus on being good. And that’s were they somehow got confused and “failed” to delivered quantity and quality.

It’s not a matter of limitation, it’s a matter of organization.

For me, personally, It’s really saddening that they’re still continuing ignoring Elona and Cantha, but, I’d be more than glad to be wrong if that turns out to be wrong with this supposed expansion.
Really, what about Tengu, Palawa Joko, The Empire Of Dragon, Sunspear? Why do we need all these new stories? Why can’t we just expand of what we already built in GW1?

One of Anet’s controversial decisions is their concept of always playing around with different systems. They usually try systems, revamps them, revamp again, scratch others, put in random other ones and the chain goes on.

Not that it is a bad thing. Just that this whole chian of experimentation creates a barrier between Anet and already working systems. I think Anet’s team is more than capable of introducing already working systems in a polished way. They just seem to prefer trying new systems or systems with twists and see hwo it turns out.

China is against Cantha, as far as we are lastly updated about the situation. Anet will probably not release an expansion if it can’t be bought by all of its’ costumers. In this case, Cantha will simply not make it to the chinese version.

On the one hand, I think Wanze and The Black Leech are on the right track, the trademark name does make sense as a bundle deal for season 2, especially if we fight the big flower (The heart of thorns?) in today’s update.

On the other, the trademark description indicates a lot of things; including “computer game software downloadable from a global computer network”. It’s my belief that if they decide to do expansion-style content with a fee attached it would not be a boxed copy you would buy at a game store, instead, " framework for how an MMO can grow its universe" could simply be having paid for add-on content exclusively through their in-game store via the purchase of gems. I think the PR spin that Arenanet are going for is that you can buy future content by simply playing their game and transferring the gold you earn to gems, giving gamers future content for free by “earning” it instead of buying it.

Perhaps we will get some clarification in a few hours time.

- NCSoft bought ArenaNet and two of the original three founders of ArenaNet have left the company. It’s like writing fan fiction to book by different author. You have the names and characters but can’t see with the mind of original authors, who had the vision and the passion for the game. Rest is going through the motions.

@Windu Because some dude from ncsoft who from what i understand left the company said there would be cultural problems, just before the release of the game.

Where the queen pavilion is in Divinity’s Reach, in year 1 of the game there was a huge hole in the ground. Guess what was previously there…before that hole. It was a whole district asian-themed …cantha themed. That’s the drastic solution they took just before the release.

That’s the explanation. Is it one of the dumbest decisions made because of some blind nationalistic asian dude who worked for ncsoft? In my eyes yes and it disguises me even to this day. Not to mention it has literally no logic. They could have very well redesigned it a bit so it’s still asian-themed but not have problems with other cultures from their zone…+ the extra basicly free marketing Asia got out of this.

But hey atleast there’s hope considering (again from articles i read a long time ago) it seems that dude is gone.

It’s a gem store collection sale. They might even include reselling Season One episodes. And yes, there will be new content and lands. Maybe even a new class (spiritualist) which you’ll have to buy through the gem store.

But it’s all Season Three material via the Living Story. Redoing a logo, to generate promotion of a product, is nothing new for a business. Look at Wendy’s. Plus, given recent events with certain companies stealing art, logos, and materials. . . .

Regardless, if people want to call what’s coming an expansion, more power to them. I’m already ready for the flames and tears on these forums when ArenaNet announces something quite different in the coming days.

Expectation and hype never seem to have a happy marriage in the MMO community.

But we’ll see soon enough.

What I mean is that expectations from their public are not to see revamped and bugged systems that are barely tested and be declared the full potential of the company.

We have been advertised expansion-like content so we expect to see such content in HoT, as we didn’t get much xpac-like content during LS.

Many things were ok with their game but they decided to tamper with them. It’s not about their capability to do something (GW2 at release was really good), it’s how they organized themselves and chose to develop/destroy point A or point B. We had great expectations since GW1, and now we’ve had more disappointment than “OMG it’s so awesome” moments.

- It’s an analogy: every engine does only what it’s capable of doing, so expecting miracles is going to end in disappointment.

Why does AoE effect go through doors?
Why can’t there be moving platforms in the air?
Why can’t NPCs have unique reactions based on the player talking to them?

The answer to these questions is that the engine doesn’t support it, which puts strict limitations to what can be made.

Because, in the future, it might be possible to buy an entire season in a bundle. They’ve done this before with Bonus Mission Packs and the like in Guild Wars 1.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Bonus_Mission_Pack

Not saying they’ll do that for Season 2. But for Season 3? It might make sense to release all at once if the community is that starved for content.

But, to be fair, that’s pure speculation on my part.

Edit: Wouldn’t it be funny if this was all based around Rytlock going into the past, learning how to be a spiritualist, and then returning to teach new players how to be a spiritualist?

I’m not saying that I’m not happy Arena Net is finally realizing Expansions for MMOs are good, and that they should probably make one, it’s certainly the kick start GW2 needs but…

I was really, really kinda hoping I was going to get to kill Modremoth and move onto a new theme that wasn’t man-eating plans that we’ve been dealing with for well over a year now. But, as long as this wraps things up this year, and we can move onto taking out those other Dragons, in particular Primordius, I’ll live.

But part of me worries, given how long this stupid Mordremoth plot line has been going on, GW2 is going to quickly become Mordremoth Wars 2.

Most likely this will end up getting at least some type of comment from Gaile today. Like others have mentioned this type of hype would be slowed down at least if they knew it would lead to something like bundled season price.

I’ll bet the opposite. Don’t want to steal Pax’s announcement thunder and potentially lose ticket sales.

Promotion is promotion after all.

Pax South has been sold out for months, I do not think someone would not go to Pax just because an announcement was released early. Not saying they should give into the hype train, just that if they know it is leading to a bundled Season pass, might be best to let people know.

Well, let me ask you this: If an ANet rep, intentionally or otherwise, announced everything you needed to know, as a reporter, writing a future article, would your company still feel the need to spend $500 to send you to the conference to have said information repeated?

When you’ve gotten it already for free?

I’ll be shocked if they decided to say something, here, before they announce anything there . . . if history is any indication.

Gone to Reddit.

With all this hype over HoT on other sites, have they forgotten to post preview stuff for todays patch? Usually by now we have at least Massively and MMORPG previews…
