Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Trademarked [Merged]
There’s two types of people in this thread. Those that are hyped, and those that tell everyone they’re not hyped. But really, deep down, they are. They really really are.
Hrm, maybe I’m too old for that, but I don’t buy the hype. Sorry. People just set themselves up for disappointment. Expect the worst and you’ll be positively surprised.

I’m not hyped either. I got more hyped when I was in my 20s. Now, in my 50s, I take things more in stride.
Sure it’ll probably be cool, but there are a lot of cool things in the world. I’ll probably enjoy the announcement, but I won’t likely stay up to watch it.
I’ll have to wait till I wake up the next morning to see what happens. If I were hyped, I’d stay up and watch it live.
I don’t understand the hate against slyvari. They are the only interesting race in the game.
I also don’t understand this new plot device of making all the other races hate them because they can become dragon minions… the entire personal story was about the slyvari saving the other races because they all became dragon minions and the slyvari were the only ones who didn’t.
Humans, asura, norn, charr… all undead minions…
Humans, charr, asura, norn… all branded
Humans, charr, asura, norn… all icebrood… many norn volunteered to be icebrood…
well sylvaries didnt conver to other dragons minions coz they r already a dragon minion XD
and dont worry i dont think that actualy there wil be a new faction .. and sylvaries will have to face agaisnt other players coz many people wich have sylvari and made it to play with theyr friend will complain. so u can make sure story will go somewhere that sylvaries will be untied against theyr master and defeat the dragon , and ofc many sylvaries ins tory will leave pale tree to serve dragon and make new organ like nightmare courts but player sylvaries allways will be in good side XD
I would like to add onto this since a majority of you likely skimmed over it in your hyped up senses right now.
Quote’s taken from the link.
“A service mark differs from a trademark in that the mark is used on the advertising of the service rather than on the packaging or delivery of the service, since there is generally no “package” to place the mark on, which is the practice for trademarks."
“Under United States law, service marks have a different standard of use in order to count as a use in commerce, which is necessary to complete registration and to stop infringement by competitors. A trademark normally needs to be used on or directly in association with the sale of goods, such as on a store display. As services are not defined by a concrete product”
This will not be a boxed Expansion therefor. Will it be electronic? Possibly, but its hard to imagine them not releasing boxed version.
That doesnt mean that it wont be a large sum of content or “Expansion Like Content”. Lets not forget ANet has called all their Context Expansion like. I feel this is simply a step they are taking to monetize a part of the story yet.
Ill be hyped when I see it in actuality, until then I wont hold my breath.
Edit: In re-reading just now, I could see this as paving the way and path to an expansion later on, but not so soon, again I wont hold my breath and Ill wait to see what happens on the 24th.
You are however ignoring the fact stated in the post right under it.
The fact that there are MULTIPLE trademarks registered, and only 2 of them are Service Marks, whereas two other are trademarks. One for toys and one for Applications/Games.

It may simply be a renaming of the game, much like other games do when they release substantial updates (IE, RIFT: Nightmare Tide/Storm Legion, AION: Ascension/Steel Cavalry, etc)
A substantial update is pretty much what an expansion is, by definition.
Have the naysayers really reached a point where they are now arguing semantics? “Yeah we’re getting five new zones, new race, new class and new skills for each profession, but it’s just an update. It’s not an expansion!”
Living story season 1 gave new regions and content. Was it an expansion? Living story season 2 gave new regions and content. Was that an expansion? No, it wasnt an expansion. Imo it’s people that share your mindset that seem to argue semantics. By and far, when people talk about an expansion in the context of the gaming industry, they’re talking about paid content releases on the level of Factions, Nightfall, or EotN for GW1, aka the “traditional” expansion. The Living Story was content released locked behind the passage of time, not payment.
The keyword in my post is “substantial”. No, I do not feel LS1 or LS2 (or even both combined) gave us a substantial update. Four new zones, which are smaller combined than the bigger original zones, and a lot less populated with events, secrets and generally stuff to do. No new classes, no new races, no new weapons.
I do agree that paid/free could be used as a definition between expansion and just an update, but that was not argued in the post I quoted. But, let’s say we would get a substantial update (let’s say 5 large zones, 1 new profession, 1 new race and a long single player story like the personal story), in one bunch, but Anet would deliver it free of charge. By your definition, would that not still be an expansion?

Ohhh, It was late last night, I thought they were all SM. I must have been clicking on the same ones multiple times or something. Ill eat my words about being wrong on that xD Ill save my hype for the 24th still to see whats announced.
Well I just saw that they are selling head, shoulders and gloves for 300 gems each…so I happily pay 50$ to make that sort of bs go away. But I will buy the head, shoulders and gloves anyway…I hate you anet, but I still kinda love you somehow.

I do agree that paid/free could be used as a definition between expansion and just an update, but that was not argued in the post I quoted. By your definition, would that not still be an expansion?
By comparison to other updates we’ve had in the game, as a whole, each living story season has been a substantial update. The fact that there’s no new professions, races, or cantha was never confirmed does not invalidate that both seasons have brought substantial content. Afterall, we’ve got fractals, southsun, raid bosses, sorta-dungeons, and many other things introduced with them. How is that not substantial? The word “substantial” and the meaning behind it are strongly subjective. Comparing it to the game as a whole, LS hasnt been substantial. Comparing it to other games, it hasnt been substantial.
And frankly, no, it wouldnt still be an Expansion. I grew up when Expansions were paid, shipped to stores, and installed via cds and cd keys. So HoT? Sure it’s an expansion of the game world in some form, but by no means will it ever be an Expansion to me, regardless of what it contains. The GW2 “world” is simply too small to declare it such.
I do believe it is an expansion.
Would they have re-done the leveling experience if they didn’t believe they would soon get a huge amount of new players?

Sorry to break it to all of you, but it is not an expansion.
ArenaNet has been taken over by the Illuminati, and Heart of Thorns will be the final step in their master plan to convert all of us.
See the picture below for proof of my theory.
My god…
