I play a level 80 and love this game to pieces. I also have a character slot with every profession and several mid-level alts.

Am I just a blind-sided fanboy… or is it possible that some people love the game, despite its bugs?

Yes it is possible to still love a game with bugs. Its not the bugs that’s killing it but the lack of attention in a timely fashion to the bugs that’s killing it. I’m sure they will be fixed but in today’s standards for mmo gamers time is everything.

Not only this, but ANet has been increasing the game’s servers capacities as needed to take people out of overflow, so it might be that some servers may display less people.

Fixing things takes time, haven’t you ever fixed something in your life? Have you ever worked on a car and something that should take 2 hrs ends up taking about 4?

There are a lot of people who have unrealistic time frames for the devs to make these fixes and don’t understand how difficult it can be to do these things.

For the thousandth time, server capacity indicates the number of accounts bound to that server, not the number of people online. It’s early morning in Europe and still there are 5 full servers; that’s because they’ve reached the maximum number of accounts which can be bound to them, not because there are a lot of people playing at this hour. There’s no queuing system like in WoW. It’s not like if you’re on a server that is high and then it becomes full that you’ll have to sit in a queue; other people simply won’t be able to transfer to it anymore.

You presume to much, if a server is full and only half of those accounts are playing then the population rating goes down, the player activity is monitored.

ever played Rift? no? ok, no worries. The reason that game is so great is not just because its a quality mmo. No, its because of Trion; the hardest dev team I’ve ever seen. Time is everything and they realize that. They jump on bugs like Raid and thats why I still play it.

And if, say, a number of people equivalent to that half transfer to the server making it full again and the half that wasn’t active starts playing again, what then? That server will have a population 50% larger than it’s maximum capacity.

They also have options to increase capacity and which in turn can handle more but more people will end up in overflow, which in turn ANet allows free world transfers from the over populated server to somewhere else.

I understand the complexity issue but since we are using analogies; why build a ship with no sails? A huge undertaking should not live beyond its means. Remember this is Guild Wars “2” therefore they have had plenty of time to strategize, prepare, and add sails to the ship before it sets sail.

If you were expecting Guild Wars 2 to be as successful as WoW at release, you’ve been fooling yourself all along. As has been pointed out, the reason WoW enjoyed so much success so early on was because of the Warcraft franchise, all of which broke the last game’s record of the best selling game ever.

Sure, there’s been a population drop and I’ve been directly affected by it, since my guild has died off, but the game clearly isn’t dead.

I’ve been playing every morning from 6am this week, (Europe) i can tell you that during the week days only 1-2 servers were normally full, Far-Shiverpeaks and Desolation, Desolation normally goes from full to high around 8-pm BST.

Are you sure they are account bound? because the populations of servers changing from high to full and back to high in the space of an hour kind of leads me to believe it is based on people online. Yes it is early in Europe, 8am in the UK, 9am central Europe, Sunday, seems like the perfect time to be online playing some GW2 don’t you think?

Every zone I ever visited in FFXI from 2004 to 2007 was packed to the max. Sure people were quitting that game all the time. But it was getting tons of new fresh blood daily. And that’s key to any mmo’s survivability.

I guess I’ll never know, seeing as it’s a sub-fee MMO and I refuse to play any sub-fee MMO on principle. But that doesn’t change the fact that people are severely underestimating what it takes to fix some issues in this game. There is no auto-fix-it button, despite what many seem to believe.

Not at all. It means that the people that were going to buy the game already did so. Additional box sales will probably be determined by how happy people are with the game and what the general opinion about it will turn to be.

If somebody asked me whether they should buy Guild Wars 2, I’d tell them not to. Why? Because of the DR systems. Such systems belong in Asian F2Ps, not in an western MMO which is supposed to be the next big step in the genre.

I, for one, never said there’s an auto-fix for bugs and I never complained about them not managing to. But adding DR systems which further impede upon our gameplay, while still being unable to fix bugs, really makes them look bad.

@Dusk did you play at GW2 launch? Zones were packed to the max people were everywhere. Fast forward to today and your lucky to get a hand full of people to show up to events in the 1 to 70 zones.

To me that says two problems! (A) the high level people are not happy enough to make alts! (B) Sales have slowed way down and there not that many we people.

God his self could make the perfect mmorpg and people would still quit. It’s the influx of new players that keep the game alive. Its very bother some to me if in 5 weeks a sell out game goes from packed to the max zones to handful of people at events if your lucky .

IMO the main issue is there’s no reason to go back to old zones once you’re maxed (assuming you’ve already explored), I don’t think Anet intended for 80’s to be in Orr 90% of the time.

Dusk there is a very simple fix that is so obvious that’s its mind boggling. There are plenty of people starved for work. Throw a ad in the local paper saying paying $7.25 a hour for entry level computer work that involves video games. Rest assured the line of people coming to the office to put in a app would stretch for blocks.

Train them to spot a bot which more then likely has already been confirmed by the player base and ban away! In a week this game would be 95% bot free and there would be much praise for Anet’s handle on the bot program!

Which all points to bots and Anet’s DR system to try and handle the bots! Truth be told some of the low level mats sell for as much if not more then some of the high level mats. With the current DR system farming low level zones is a waste of time!

Why make a thread about it if you arent worried?

you know ignorance and bliss and all that.

I’m not worried, but there is threads going about regarding this games survivability, this thread is to prove that there are individuals who claim something but are not telling the truth….You know the whole “a picture says a thousand words” saying.

Move along kid.

I’m sorry to tell you this, but a picture of full servers after the game has been live for a MONTH does not constitute any evidence of LONGEVITY or SURVIVABILITY.

give me the same image in 12 months time and maybe you’ll have a point.

Why you people LIE is beyond me i go to alot of zones as 80 becouse finally game i can END from lvl1 to 80 (this seems majority still not graps lol) and plenty of players at events.

When you cheat and exploit fast to 80 and then say there is nothing to do you are the ones who destroying the whole mmorpgs business. Nomatter what a company try making, you pathetic whiners keep crying its realy sad how you guys have plagued the mmo’s scene over past 7 years:(

Are you guys talking about other game?

Please tell me how you lie and cheat to 80? This games leveling system is so easy that you can be 80 in a week with a modest amount of play time. They practically force you to 80, the higher level you are the faster the leveling gets!

Woah, woah, punctuation. Also, how can you be so stupid as to believe that just because someone hit 80 faster than you they’re cheating and exploiting?

There are always people complaining just for the sake of complaining, that much is not being questioned. However, the real plague of the genre are people like yourself. You’re the kind of person that, just because you can’t do something fast enough or don’t have enough time to do it, believes that others shouldn’t be allowed to do it either. That’s why you have no problem with the DR system. In fact, your problem is with the people asking for its removal, because that way, people that invested more time in the game would actually be rewarded proportionally to their effort.

You’re the plague, because, in your selfishness, you’d rather have everyone not be rewarded, just because you wouldn’t be able to put in the time to achieve that reward. You fail to acknowledge the fact that just because someone has more gold than you, because they worked for it, doesn’t mean they have an advantage.

There are a lot places that’s quite dead even on a full server like Jade Quarry. Lornar’s Pass, Harathai hinterlands, Sparkfly Fen, Timberline Falls are deserted almost all the time.

I played from headstart. Zones were packed because everyone was just starting the game. These people eventually spread out. If you really think that you were going to constantly get stuck in overflows forever and seeing countless super-zergs per event forever, you’re daft.

The game isn’t empty. I see other players constantly. Every event I’ve done, every single one, at least one person has been there with me. Just because you want to believe so badly that the game is bad and dead because of it simply because you don’t like it doesn’t make it so. You’re deluding yourself. People are in the game right now, in the tens of thousands, possibly over 100k, enjoying the game. Deal with it.
