Guild Wars 2 Lack of Porpose
I’m sorry you need a “purpose” (which is nothing else as an illusionary water glass in the desert to keep you struggling).
The purpose of games is having fun.
GW2 offers fun in the means of an interactive, very dynamic world (Kessex Hills alone is probably more alive than most games) where you can partecipate and have fun.
It also offers RvR and structured PvP.
If you were more into chasing ghosts I suggest a traditional MMO.
It would be cool if at level 80 the game introduced stuff like Tomba!’s pump rocks.
Yeah, those pump rocks! Remember those things hiding all over the world. Hope you do because they are important now!
Masanbol, I’m pretty sure that’s a quaggan.
Priorities, what to do?
Spend hours with dye
I read (in the “iceberg” piece) that they’re gonna be adding private pvp arena where you can 1v1 or whatever you like.
Mansabol you killed me, thats exactly what I was thinking when I opened this thread.
And I have seen one in game, Nightynight, just look harder and you will find the porpoise in the game.
NightyNight has a point. After your gear and 100% and story done. What else? After this post will someone say your playing to fast or you should have reviewed the game before you bought it. FYI: I played gw1 since prophecies. Even though there was GvG, which this game doesnt have, HA, nope! Ra, Ta and more. GW1 had a great PVE. That kept you intersted and playing with other people.
I personally level and gear more level 80’s to farm more dungeons for more dungeon gear for them. I fit WvW and spvp in between as well. The game is what you make of it. If you feel like there’s no more for you, move on. There’s nothing wrong with that. However there’s supposed to be new content on the 22nd if that helps any.
Warrior Nuuk (80 War)

@Samuel
Enjoy the game? Events, Dungeons, WvW, whatever you like.
Just because you “completed” PvE story and gear it doesn’t mean the game has nothing more to offer.

Once you were done with GW1 PvE, you were done with GW1 PvE. Might take you a long time, but it’s no different from this game. So you either quit or PvP, just as you can with this game.
There’s no shame in stopping playing. You are not paying for any subscription.
youre about 2 weeks late with this topic. most people have accepted GW2 for what it is, and have either left or are enjoying the hell out of it.
Ingoring the trolls who think they are so funny and smart I didn’t see much arguments to the points I raised. The purpose of having fun , ye I got that much.I had fun trust me .Just like I said ,I enjoyed every aspect of the game. But now that I have done almost everything ,what next? I am full level and fully gearded and I have nothing left to do.I am not having fun anymore. This is an MMORPG .The whole point to an MMORPG is evolving together whit thousands of other peoples to an ultimate goal. This game has no goal.Yes I had fun while doing it ,so what? the journey ended .WHAT NOW ? You do dungeons and get pretty and better gear just to do more dungeons?A goul can simply be PvP.This game has no PvP.Yes It has WvW but thats Siege like Battles and even though its a nice feature it doesn’t appeal to me verry much and I don’t think I am alone in this. If Kessex Hills(and all that it stands for) is everything that Guild Wars 2 has to offer then ANET failed big time.People Started leaving already.I am sure most of you noticed the player base has decreased dramaticaly since the start.Or maybe I don’t know and its just the server I play in.
I hope its true mulch that they are planning on adding PvP arenas .This is an awesome game , I truly hope it doesn’t fail but so far its much to casual to keep it running. You’ll see…
The game is amazing, take it for what it is. If you dont enjoy all the end game activities, like getting the prestigious armors and weapons from dungeons, doing WvW, playing the economy and learning all the crafting recipes or dominating in sPvP or doing 100% game completion or working on achievements, or doing all the puzzle challenges or starting a new guild, then stop playing. If you at least got your 60 bucks worth, then thats great.
no great things last forever. At least GW2 has no sub, it didnt waste your time or had a drawn out levelling progression because you needed to pay monthly as long as possible. game is right here for you when they make new content. No harm in that. Go live your life and be happy.

This is not true.
MMORPGs where created from MUDs. Text based adventures. It stands for Multi User Dungeons. The idea was to make a dungeon crawler experience where multi people could play together. Think Dungeons of Dragons but on computers.
Did you know that levels where only incorporated to give players a sense on when to stop? The whole premise was just crawling and killing with friends.
When graphic based MMOs came out it sort of turned out to a premise of a living thriving world. it’s just funny that games like Skyrim has done the Virtual World element better than any MMO, since SWG (9 yrs ago).
So when you talk about purpose, that’s not neccesarily true. you merely play until you dont want anymore. GW2 has an actual storyline with cut scenes, and when you do the last mission you are can basically say that you completed the game, and lay it down. It’s only if you want more out of it, and if you feel compelled to do it, that you should continue.
It sounds like you don’t feel compelled to just do stuff. Time to take a break. That is all:)
enjoy your premade toon with premade skills for fixed weapon choices to choose from.

I don’t remember playing with people in GW1. Since game release I played with Henchmans. They were more cleaver and less troubling than well… People.
GW1 pve was exactly the same as GW2 pve. Endless grind for skins.
Much, much later the introduced even bigger grind for titles.
But no. Actually there is more to do in GW2 than GW1.
In GW1 all you cloud do is killing mobs. MOARRRR KILLINGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In GW2 you have puzzle (jumping and more traditional) and hidden dungeons (I hesitate to call them mini, as first time doing them without knowing what to do can be really time consuming).
Oh and you can also enjoy the world, listening to NPCs, looking for hidden things.
Ingoring the trolls who think they are so funny and smart I didn’t see much arguments to the points I raised. The purpose of having fun , ye I got that much.I had fun trust me .Just like I said ,I enjoyed every aspect of the game. But now that I have done almost everything ,what next? Massive – Check.
Multiplayer – Check.

In other words GW2 is MMORPG. Just because it is no designed the same as 9873647823642 other MMORPG doesn’t change the fact that it is MMORPG.
As just really hope all you endless progression whiners just quit. It’s was known since 3 years that the game WON’T have any post-80 progression. Just like GW1 didn’t had.
And as I remember people also whined for it in GW1. Story like to repeate itself…
I am realy tired of this kind of stupid mentality. If you don’t get what you want anymore just ‘’move on’‘.Is it a crime to ask for more? You wouldn’t want to have more? Does it bother you in any way? This is just a sugestion to what ANET can do to keep a large player base staying. Is it that horrible to want to keep playing?Don’t give me answers like..If you don’t like it anymore get lost. You get lost.I am here to see if something more can be done.If not yes I will move on.I don’t need you to tell me what to do.
No. It’s horrible to want to play a game that’s is cleary not fitting you demands. And yet you still want to play it. That’s horrible.
Games are for fun. If you don’t have fun stop playing and leave those who have fun enjoying. Because you know. IF the game will fit you it won’t fit the other players that enjoy game for what it is.
Is it really hard to understrand ?
IF they introduce endless progression I will just quit. I’m tired of those kind of MMO, and never came back.
The game will keep large playerbase. Of people who are as us, tired of those endless power progression tread mills.

MMORPG’s have also evolved a lot from since they were created.
OF course they are. That’s why we see more crap of WoW-like MMORPG, and less ambitius MMORPG like Darkfall, Ultima Online, or EverQuest.
That’s why this genere is in it’s regress currently and really stagnated. Nothing new. Just new power progression tread mills, that keep player playing because they chasing invisible carrot. That’s said I’m really glad that there are MMOs coming that have nothing to do with this outdated crap system…
I love this game, but sometimes i think the WvW decision have been made by softhearted housewives. There is no competition, no challenge, no ambition.
Is End-game really that bad?
Hmm…Well the Halloween event is coming up so that should give everyone something to do. The holidays are up so I’m sure they will dish out Christmas too, and probably Thanksgiving but sometimes it’s best to move on, and come back when the game updates more stuff…It takes time.

The whines are not about lack of endge. But about lack of very specfic narrowed power progression endgame. That was know since begining won’t be present in GW2. And yet people expected it will be present.

No one asks for endless progression. We ask for a duel system not completly separated from PvE. You don’t like it, You’re free to get lost.Go read twilight books or something.
If you actualy have an argument for why this is a bad idea then feel free to share it whit us, otherwise, again, get lost.
I’m constantly amazed that people still believe that GW2 doesn’t have a gear treadmill. It does, but primarily for new skins/models. Sure, the stats might be slightly different, but no where near the justification of spending months for a new flashy sword. Further, it really shows little of actual player accomplishments because it primarily requires time, and luck. At least in standard gear treadmills you know the item your working towards will actually grant some character progression.
The lack of purpose is primarily tied to the lack of character progression. Further, the world is lacking a lot of depth. You can run from heart to heart without talking to anyone. You do “quests” without knowing exactly why you’re doing them. I still am unsure if there’s Capital leaders….or if there’s even a primary enemy. I don’t know — I’m assuming that given the state of the Orr area that there’s a Lich King somewhere…
So, in times past you saw someone with the Warglaives of Azzinoth you stared in awe. You knew that himself, and his weapon were vastly more powerful than yourself. Now, if you see someone walking around with a legendary weapon, or a full WvW set of armor it fails to confer the awe inspiring feeling. Instead, it is more of a “ kitten he must farm a lot. I’ll get mine in about 6 months.” Time is rewarded, and not so much skill. And, it isn’t even really a reward, because there is technically little incentive to actually go beyond your basic 80 exotics.
here, have a porpoise
LOL! hehe!

Then don’t? I think by now if you have no idea about even the most basic story line then you arent even paying attention to what those little people with hearts have to tell you or talking to everyone in the camp. I played GW1 too and you had to search for dialogue and could ignore it and pretend it did not have a story if you wanted to. If you play this game like a platformer without a soul, then it will become one. The game has plenty of depth, it just has nothing to do with your character, events bigger than you are taking place and all you can do is fight and watch.
If you need character progression in the form of stats, then yes at 80 its over for you. You can preach on it all you want, but its over for you. Wait until they release new content…which is in about a week or so .
Then, even after knowing the lore, and the reasons behind “why” you’re killing the Risen — is that what goes through your head on the 10-20th time you’ve done the same “dynamic event?” Attempting to save up the karma for whatever armor/weapon purchases? Farming endgame mats, and equipment drops (to play in the Mystic Forge).
Or, maybe go teleport over, and kill a dragon because the timer is up for the 6th time this week? Oh, maybe go do some jumping puzzles on all my characters so I can get some badges of honor. You could always enter WvW and capture/lose the same spot for hours on end (provided you have sufficient zerging numbers).
Stop QQing y’all. For just $60 with no sub, this game gives HUNDREDS OF HOURS of entertainment. If thats not value for money IDK what is. I’m 2 weeks into this game and I’ve only done like 30% of the content. Not even counting the other classes/races with their own personal story.
With that said, yes, It’ll be nice if we could duel. Don’t even need an arena or whatever, just the ability to right click on your friend and “invite to duel”.
I totaly agree whit you.Now thats exacly why someone like me is here.‘’Because it would be nice’’ , wouldn’t it? It doesn’t take a huge ammount of effort to implement this kind of stuff and it would solve a lot of things. It gives something extra to do when you’ve reached your maximum potential.Yet ANET decided not too.Their theory is that if theres nothing to compete over, everything will be beautifull , people will be more nice with each other. They couldn’t be more wrong.I’ve seen people being rude whit eachother for the most simple and childish things. They’ve created a system where people are competing over the most trivial aspects of the game.Thats worse than anything in any game that I’ve played so far.People will chose to be nice with eachother or not what ever the circumstances.
In the end ,there is nothing wrong whit a little competition. They’ve made everything fair and for what.A game whitout a challenge.

I also find it very strange that they don’t have a simple /duel option in game.

Henchman! I had rarely had to run with henchman is GW1. I had a great guild for that. I still play with my same friends from GW1 now. The fact you say the IRL people are trouble and you would rather play with henchmen is a cause for concern. This game must be perfect for you since your alone most of the time anyway. BUT fyi I will contiunue to support guild wars franchise, but I feal it could use some changes. I have put over 300 usd in this game so far. So dont tell me I should leave or I cant understant. BUT the fact is people are leaving everyday and if you cant see that or in denial your a total tool.
Wonderfull comunity.You were saying?
Hi,
Please refrain from posting off topic. There have been a number of such posts and we don’t support that behaviour in the fourms. Keep the conversation civil and constructive.
Thanks
If you look at a traditional MMO like WoW, one way they kept people hooked was a gear treadmill. Every patch would release a higher tier level of gear that you’d gain through Raiding or PvP’ing. The thing that most people don’t mention with that design philosophy’s end result very much similar to what ArenaNet has developed. You min/max or create your desired set, and then you’re left without a need to work for gear that makes you stronger in combat. People sit in capitals for the next few months to wait for new content to release. In Guild Wars 2, the speed at which you get to that point is rapidly increased and made available by many different means. You can transmute gear in both games to create your look how you want it.
The distinct difference is with player competitiveness. With the removal of the holy trinity, ease of getting the highest tier of gear, and lack of tools that mark/record your own performance in relation to other players (such as DPS meters), that satisfaction of progression and becoming stronger as time goes on quickly stagnates. It’s a psychological numbers game that ArenaNet doesn’t feel the need to play.
My suggestion to ArenaNet is to give players a way to distinguish themselves from their peers for their efforts other than gear (whether it be visual or stat values). Timed dungeons, an expansion upon achievements (which is needed direly anyways), and possibly some sort of competitive activity Guilds can participate in would be quite healthy, I believe, for the longevity of people’s attraction toward this game.
TL;DR – Guild Wars 2 lacks the competitive drive between other players with the lack of a gear treadmill or holy trinity. There should be some sort of activity players can do to give that satisfaction of accomplishment and willingness to increase skill to overcome obstacles. Something to say, “Hey, look at me and what I’ve done that makes me so awesome due to my hard work. Everyone looks at me for inspiration and a benchmark for your own ability.”
Edit Afterthought: I’m mostly talking about PvE in my post. While PvP also is lacking currently, there is a massive effort already underway to expand upon what they already have. Soon™ is painful to wait for, but it’ll come eventually.

GW1’s PvE was nowhere near “great.”
