Guild Wars 2 Official Companion App
I wouldn’t use it. On top of my many problems with it would be that it’d take away from my forum sarcasm time.

What would be the point?
What good does it do to be able to look at your gear, items etc. when you can’t log in to the game itself? Even more so with events, which would most likely be over by the time you could log in.

There will be no ‘official’ ArenaNet app, as ArenaNet opened the API to others so they could create the very apps you seek. You can find a list of apps in either the API sub-forum, or the Wiki, I believe.
Good luck.
I remember in early development they had started developing exactly what you describe, but I guess they abandoned it.
and to answer @Danikat : they planned for the app to have a chatbox that would allow you to chat with your friends and guildies.
Other features could have included Event Timers, TP transactions, Shopping for gems (both currency exchange and real-world transactions)
I think they announced the abandonment fairly early after the game released, letting 3rd parties provide offline tools. Don’t remember exactly where I heard that. Maybe one of the recent AMAs on Reddit reiterated it.
RIP City of Heroes
I would love a companion app outside the game. Able to see ingame guild chat and next teq spawn while im stuck in traffic coming back from work.

Ok that’s one thing I would like to have. There’s been more than 1 occasion when I missed a gem store sale or limited time item because I was away from home and couldn’t log in.
But since the gem store is already a separate browser based program built into the game, and we can log into our GW2 accounts on the website a web page would probably be easier and then it would be accessible to everyone who can get online, not just people with compatible smart phones and wireless internet.
(I realise the idea of not having a smart phone is a bit alien these days, but I didn’t have one until last year, and places without wireless internet are not that uncommon. I just spent a week in a forest in Scotland with no wireless outside of towns (and sometimes not even phone signal), but I did have access to a PC.)

I think they realised what many companies have learned about “companion” apps. They cost time and money to develop and maintain and they give little or no return on the investment.
