Q:
Guild Wars 2: The Second Year in numbers?
Have to say that was a pretty good way to put some stats out for the game… wonder how things compare as of today.. would be nice to have another glimpse if only to see how class spread etc is altering if at all

I believe the Korossive post above is fairly clear explanation of the company not doing things for fun. Really good descriptive and accurate name there Korossive.

Gee, wasn’t Ascended Armor released in December of 2013? I was thinking that was during the second year. Pretty sure you can’t get that in the Gem Store. /shrug

The Hero weapons came out in Spring 2014. The Ambrite weapons, pretty sure before the 2nd birthday. The Glorious armor, PvP, missed the deadline by a bit.
A fair number of backpieces were released, but I guess we aren’t counting them for some reason.

While there is a tad bit of hyperbole and dismissiveness in this post, it still really illustrates what a disaster this game is right now. I can’t believe anyone wonders why there’s so much snide negativity on the forums.

Of course they won’t release any statistics be cause they would show how abysmal the game performes compared to the first year. Even the first year numbers were presented in a shady way (max players who played at one moment in this year, oh btw it was something with 400k people, compare this to Destiny: 3.4 million).
Fact is: WoW still holds 6 million people who pay monthly while GW2 is free and is played by a couple of 100k people.

WoW has always had the resources of a major game developer at hand, a staff of several thousand, and worldwide brand recognition/loyalty to keep players in. GW2 is supported by a small team crushed under the boots of NCSoft’s demands.
Destiny is also a cross platform game, which allows it to reach an incredibly large audience (The vast majority of Destiny players are console players, I believe), whereas GW2 is pc-exclusive. On top of being an FPS (one of the most popular next-gen game genres)
If ArenaNet had a larger team and NCSoft was not a part of the picture, the game would be a booming success and likely dwarf other F2P games.
That’s the other aspect of GW2 that affects it. GW2 is in it’s own niche of Buy to Play. Once you have the game, it’s yours for good. No subs, just gaming. Games likw WoW compel you to play them to get your money’s worth from the sub, whereas GW2 seems to be more aimed at a casual experience. This also keeps away the F2P gamers who may not be willing to invest in the game before being able to try it out (one of the reasons WoW implemented a perm free account option to allow players to play up to level 20 under restrictions)

Sorry, it’s 3.2 and ‘daily players’ not concurrent. But still nice number. Anyway, it’s not about this game.

Technically your inaccurate as well. IF we are going by game release/birthday, it would only be the Ascended armor skins, since the pvp armors were release with the second feature patch which was after the games second ‘birthday’.
And I would only ever consider it as one armor set, not three since they can’t just release a set for one AC.
Please give us a keyring…
Hello.
ArenaNet are you going to introduce us a new statistics for year 2 as it was after the first year of the GW2?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/
Ok hadn’t seen that link before, this would be cool to see again. Lot of fun facts in there and this is the kind of things players across games share drawing people into a game.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.

Yes, I noted above that post that the PvP armor didn’t actually count as it came out slightly after the birthday. And I did say in the post you quoted “if you consider the 2 new PvP armors” indicating there were reasons not to count it. I didn’t bother to repeat myself about how it didn’t actually count.
As for ascended, If they had only released one set, let’s say heavy, that would count as one armor set right? But they released one light armor set, one medium, one heavy. I count that as 3 sets.
Edit: they even could be counted as 6 sets as the female and male armors of each weight are not identical. Each has it’s own look and was designed separately.

The first year was amazing compared to the second year.
They added some stuff, but if we compare it to the first year…
I don’t remember any significant addition on SPvP this second year.

Pretty sure the Noisy Cricket would be too overpowered, especially for WvW.

Sigh
I never said it was significant. I was pointing out that saying that zero armor/weapons skins was not true and also not true was where he said animations were removed.

You forgot to mention the stuff they cut out of the starter zones, the useless gem items, their attempts to sell more gems and the number of new bugs that came into the game and many more things. Hell if we would list everything up they messed up this year we would need at least 100 fully filled posts.
Posting the second year stats when we have access to the first year stats would be the opposite of “good PR”. So no, we won’t see them.
It’d sure be interesting to quantify the difference, though.
Case and point, we didn’t need megaservers to make a map feel full when that first infographic came out. The raw numbers certainly wouldn’t put the game in any sort of positive light.

That is…sad…and also true.
They did add some awesome cosmetic things (for gems)though. Good job designers!
Other things that weren’t added in 2014 include new gear tiers, mounts, open-world PKing, DPS meters, server merges… and those are just a handful of the dubious things some players did ask for.
That is a long and very cherry-picked list of things, 80% of which have never bothered me personally – so I have to wonder how many other players aren’t interested in “lore to legendaries” etc. either. Other items are being addressed now or in the near future, and plenty are just plain wrong.
If I’m going to compare 2014 to 2013, it’s added a whole lot more story and a bit of interesting content (I do wish there was more, but it’s improving) instead of the temporary stuff we saw in 2013 and the rather-too-permanent ascended grind.
What’s missing is a needed update/overhaul of PvP/WvW. Fingers crossed that’s on the way.
I asked for preferential treatment and got none. I wasn’t banking on actually getting it, though.
Something I did ask for was an expansion. Sadly, I didn’t get that. But next year is another year and I still feel hope in my heart for a huge heaping handful of new perm content.
Also, I didn’t get rifles for rangers or polearms for warriors. I think I actually logged a ticket requesting both of those.

Ascended Armour was added , not sure is in 2013 or 2014 BUT i promise you people that have it won’t like a new gear tier at all even people without is wont like it because it would be more work than ascended. Server merges = Megaserver Not sure what open-world pking is but if it is open world pvp , most people dont want that either. Chose between Mounts or waypoints. DPS meter I gotta give to you.
