I’m going to put this out there just because I feel a little positivity must transpire (and subsequently be buried again) amongst all these negative posts. I’m just going to come right out and say first-hand that I AM a Guild Wars 2 fan.

Now, before you get your nerd-rage aflare and your fingers ready to type belittling messages, I am also going to do my best to be practical here. I am aware of some of the more gleaming problems with the game as well as buggy nature of some of it’s aspects. I’ve had some irksome moments with invisible mobs, lag, and several other issues. Outside my fandom, I understand that this game is not perfect and I don’t particularly care to see things that are broken, but to put things in perspective, this is an MMO. Every one of them ships with issues regardless of how many people it takes to build it. Imagine how hard it is to make a game, then tenfold that and consider how difficult it is to make it a game world. There are bound to be mistakes here, there, or everywhere, because when things break, it usually breaks several other things in the process and that’s ok. For the most part, the other sections of the game works, so check them out in that downtime. Or hell, go visit the “big blue room” and do something different.

Now, this is a lot said from someone with an opinion with which to say I’m sure you have your lot to say as well. The game is not perfect and these people are not God, or it would be, but let’s think of alternatives to just bashing them for trying to deliver a feasible experience for their customers. They are good people (whether you agree with me or not), who work hard during the day and sometimes night to deliver this product to you which is, for the most part, free-to-play. Stuff like this costs a little more than your initial $50 to run for the longterm and I think they’re on the right track and mindset to try something new in that regard (and believe me, they are trying), but I digress. Let’s get back to the heart of the matter.

We are all aware there is discontent out there and there always will be. You can’t please everyone. I will say though, that YOU have the potential to change that. There are a good majority of those that are seeking positive ways to submit reports and queries to faulty areas of the game and I applaud you. The ones I am addressing though, are those who sit in chat or here on the forums and do nothing more than post negative comments. Well, ok. You don’t like this, or you don’t like that. Well, what would you do to change it for the better? Give some feedback without putting so much emotion and hatred into it. It’s a game. It can be changed or modified. And really, there’s no need to get that worked up over it. If you feel that strongly about disliking the game after you bought it, you could have waited to demo it during one of the many beta weekends or free weekends. Think of it as a cautionary tale for the next game you buy. Don’t play it anymore and move on. We all do: That’s life.

Personally, I enjoy the game much more than any other MMO I’ve ever played even if it has the same or similar elements in it. They implemented those on behalf of the overwhelming demand for it from their customers of Guild Wars 1. I like the changes because it, not only feels like I’m playing a normal MMO (which I was VERY hesitant about from the get-go), but it doesn’t feel like the usual MMO I’ve played before. The subtle differences are what do it for me and I like it. Again, I know there are some “borken” parts, but let’s be honest: Every game of this type has shipped with errors, up to and including the precious World of Warcraft. Ride out the tide with us. These errors get fixed and then we can move on to griping about more important things like Chuck Norris, George Lucas, and politics.

In a very big nutshell, my point is to state that we should “Keep Calm”^tm. and be more constructive rather than negative about Guild Wars 2 and really any game for that matter. I say that to all players from all aspects. As a fellow gamer, I feel your displeasure at times with the way things run from time to time. With every negative thing though, try to come up with a positive. Help provide feedback without going on a flame-war. And really, if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all. That’s the best advice for anyone.

Also, bring back Firefly.

Everything you said is so very true, both for this game and for life in general. Hear, hear! I only hope at least one person takes the time to read it and actually changes their social behavior for the better.
