Guild Wars 2 Trailer
I think I have read somewhere that it was mean to appeal to the current crowd of players. Not very sure though.

that said I have not met a single person that thinks that was a good trailer. what the hell were they doing
I didn’t like the trailer either. I was not expecting that type of trailer. No offense Anet. You have proved so far that you can produce good trailers, but this?
The only conclusion I can come to is that the trailer is targeted at non-gamers. Especially non-gamers who want to feel smart. At the very least, you have to admit that the trailer is pretty memorable, if only for the wrong reasons.
Well the trailer wasn’t made by Anet, it was that V for Vendetta guy who did it, it’s why it’s kinda crappy.
Now I wonder if it’s an Anet or NCsoft idea, I’m going for NCsoft.

Thanks for linking that, but they closed my thread earlier. The moderator said people were using hyperbole and stating opinions as facts, so closed the thread.
@felivear – I liked the point you made about bringing friends over to this game. Word of mouth from other gamers can really drive the adoption by others. I only mentioned that because the moderator has closed a few of these threads by saying we already bought the game and the commercial isn’t directed at us.
I think we can still discuss the commercial if done right… even if the commercial isn’t directed at us (since we already bought the game).
Forbes.com posted an online article critiquing the trailer:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/carolpinchefsky/2012/09/10/guild-wars-2-is-an-excellent-game-so-why-is-the-new-promo-so-terrible/
So even outside, rational writers are looking at the commercial with confusion.
I’ve had time to think about the commerical, and maybe it makes sense if the Forbes writer is correct in pointing out that the director for the commercial worked on the Matrix movies.
Maybe the real world players are living in a dream world (a game world like the Matrix), and they each wake up realizing it isn’t really real. They find each other and work their way to the really real world (Guild Wars 2).
That’s the only thing I could come up with, considering how none of the real world scenes seemed to relate to a revolution against their gaming status quo.
That was… a very bad trailer. What happened AN?
