Guild Wars 2 Worth Playing Again?
Only Better…
Gw2 needs its work and polish, it is no denying that. The living story is a growing experience (keep in mind Gw2 is one of the first, if not the first, mmo to try to do something like this. It will take time for them to perfect it and they’re looking at player feedback to help) and I enjoy doing it. The game is heavily what you make of it. The experience improves ten fold if you’re in a guild and establish friends and get a community going. Also keep in mind that this game isn’t as bad as a gear grind. Doing things with the intention of getting better gear isn’t the best way to play the game. Roaming the world with a group of friends, helping other players, doing puzzles/mini dungeons, open world stuff is very fun. Everything awards karma so its a sure way that you’ll eventually get exotics, plus there is a chance for you to get some better gear in the way of drops. Sure there may be a group of mobs you can farm for max drop potential, or a chain event for karma, or a dungeon for gold. However doing these over and over again will take out a lot from the game’s overall experience.
If you don’t find yourself wanting to play still, come in once a day and spend about 2-3 hours doing the living story and getting the reward. Just so you have it and in years come when the game is more polished you can say you were here and got this item .
Huh… 26 views, and only one who could reply so boldly. That doesn’t say much for the forum community, does it?
You’re response is far more then what I had actually expected Deified, and probably about ten times more useful then what anyone else could have posted.
I have an upgraded Guild and such I created myself, and after about a month pretty much raised the points solo, due to members leaving left, right, and center due to boredom. At the time I couldn’t possibly see what was so boring. Alas, even with a guild, friends, etc. The game still did not do “justice” in the sense you are speaking of. Though as you say, with the right people, the right guild, the right “community”, I’m sure Guild Wars 2 is more then what people have actually put into it.
I myself have left before doing a single “Living Story”, so, you might be right in that sense that’s once a day if I did login for just those few hours and did the living story, it might make the world of a difference.
I’m glad there are people such as yourself who are actually around to share responses, and thoughts. It might actually make the world of a difference one day.
I’ll probably do just as you said. Though, the whole “missing” a living story forever and a “one” time chance doesn’t really appeal to me too much, I suppose I can simply think of it as just another “quest”.
As for friends, and a guild… Probably not going to happen due to my bitter-sweet shyness.
Anyways Deified, thanks for a good response. I suppose I’ll end up updating Guild Wars 2, and give it another go.
Have a nice night/day, depending on where you live of course.

No problem, glad to give my opinion.
Also just a note they added guild missions since december. They sadly don’t favor small guilds. Yeah guilds are hard to start now a days. The influx of new people is starting to slow down and they get quickly picked up. My guild limits itself from going above 200 and we have about 20-30 on during the week and 30-40 on the weekend. My advice is seeking playerless people out. Spamming in map chat isn’t always effective. Walk around, find players without a guild and talk to them and see if they want to join. Getting a teamspeak/voice program helps a lot too. Also require representing. When players represent, you can send messages out in guild chat and help get players to interact with one another.
On the note of the living story, I doubt that the main parts of the stories will be gone. The rewards however, I don’t expect to see come back. With the way fractal of the mist is setup, it would be lore sensable for them to put in a fractal that is the molten dungeon or canach fight. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do. This recent story arc added in a new world boss/meta event and it is mostly the main climax/fight of the story. It is perm so you can do it anytime you’d like. They said in a recent dev post that the upcoming living story arcs they will be trying to add in more perm content for players.
I wish you luck and hope that your experience is good and you decide to stick with the game.

Not true. Asheron’s Call used to (and believe still does) do monthly updates based on a connected story arc. That was, what, 1998? And somehow they managed to roll out a whole lot more each month, too.
OP – I think the reason you probably didn’t get much response is that your post seems purely rhetorical. You basically just complain about the game as you left it and are persistently negative, surmising that your post will probably be deleted anyway. What you call “bittersweet shyness” I call arbitrary negativity. Who wants to play with someone like that?

If you burned out because of playing too much, I would just pick it up again and see if you’re having fun.
If you left because something about the game was fundamentally lacking in the experience you expect from the game, there’s really no reason to come back. There havent any significant enough changes to change the game experience as a whole.
im still playing and i agree with you on one point it does still feel like they are spinning the wheels. i dont think they quite gotten where they want to be be on the living story but i think it will get better. they are learning as they go. some places i feel like they need a lot more polish but the game was free to play you already bought it when you want so jump in and give it a bit of a try. if you were burned out and took a while off it doesnt hurt to try it again. you never know maybe playing this a bit here and there might be your thing i took a month off and may take another off. its a good game that has potential to be a better game.
Honestly only you can judge if the game is ‘worth’ playing. To me it is, but if I had come to this forum and read some of the negative posts that I often see here, it would likely put me off the game…unfairly to the game, because obviously people are playing it, so they must be enjoying it.
I find it immensely fun, at “endgame” you don’t get your hand held, and that’s possibly why some people feel they have no direction, (or no clue) but there is lots to do, and all I have is fun doing it. No the game isn’t perfect, but I am yet to play a game, any game, that is.
