Guild Wars 2 a top seller last month
SWTOR needed subscription, GW2 doesn’t.
That’s like saying Bethesda doesn’t do as much money even if they still sell Skyrim boxes because many people don’t play it anymore.
Fifth best seller, in the first month after launch.
grats ANet!
well, in germany it was first place at the most-selled PC-game charts the past month and is still at the third one
but will be probably first place again or on the second next month…the competetors are MoP, fifa13 and borderlands 2
or maybe not – i can’t see into the future :P
emptiness is just an illusion
players transferring characters to newer or less crowded servers, visiting different zones while progressing or simply don’t play it that much anymore, because the launch-hype-effect is gone
sure, alot left, but that’s ok – but i can’t say if that is balanced out by new players or not, but less activity after a few month of a mmorpg’s release is totally normal
also, the GW2 servers are so crowded, that even 5% less activity feels empty
and don’t forget about bans
emptiness would actually not be a bad thing at the moment…less WvWvW queues and less lags :P

yeah, true that. that played against SWToR for sure
but I never said GW2 is tanking as hard and as fast as SWToR did
Im merely pointing that going by the sales alone may mean nothing
since this game doesnt have subs its hard to tell if its gaining players or losing them. we have to go by personal appreciation of server populations, which certainly is a flawed way to try to draw any meaningful data
The best part about GW2 is that there are no greener pastures. this game is the kitten The only thing ruinging this game are the botters.
More people buying the game speaks well, the “wait and see” buyers who just don’t jump on the newest thing, but move by word of mouth or favorable press. I also suspect (based on anecdotal evidence only) that the majority of “content eaters” are the ones standing at the door when an MMO opens for business*. We may see these later purchasers taking their time through content and hanging around.
*Don’t see the point myself, but I have no problem with people blowing through content.
Bf3 was released last year… That guy screw up his info?
Once an MMO releases it has a very small window to capture fans (GW2 has been very successful) now it must keep them.
That’s great and all but its not going to help the fact that most people have short attention spans and move game to game. The only way Guild Wars is going to stay on top is by cranking out fresh new content monthly to keep people coming back.
SELLING the game, initially, isn’t the problem – due to all the hype they intentionally created to fool people.
STICKING with the game over long periods of time is the problem – as the game lacks quality at it’s core design and end game.
You missed the point with your last 3 sentences, OP.
I’m glad to see you’re still here trolling the forums, Raging, despite the fact you hate the game and feel the company lied to you and the rest of your drama queen nonsense.
Makes sense, I guess.
I think he’s actually a GW2-fanboi who does not dare to come out of the closet :p Why else spend all your time on a forum from a game you are supposed to hate? I know another one on these forums who is just like that :’)
OT: Instead of the sales stats, I would like to see some statistics about the number of people playing every day/week/month on each server.
Can’t believe no one has mentioned Xfire yet…. GW2 is the #5 game on xfire.
@Rook:
Not sure what you mean by ‘I wish i could say it was better. I really do.’
I only mention xfire because ‘other’ game forums do. I don’t know enough about statistics to say whether or not xfire is a good sample or not. It is interesting to watch though, just from a curious gamers pov.

Exactly. GW2 already hit its peak and the fanbois just hate to admit a lot of people already stopped playing. A lot went to try Pandas where it is actually not a bad expansion, and others went back to their other games. ToR did take a huge hit but they have been steady since and I would say the sub base is about 600k. I have seen gamer forums were people already stopped playing GW2. Yes I know that may only be in the couple of hundreds, but I am sure there are a lot more than that. Once ToR goes f2p, their numbers will go up A LOT. Oh and they have been releasing content again and already have the next patch on the test server.
The fanbois here are almost as blind as those of Tera online. But see the best part of GW2 is that it is free monthly. So once GW2 adds a lot more content, gets rid of the botting etc. adds more content, people will come back to try it. After all it is free so everyone will have access to the same stuff. Don’t get me wrong I think GW is decent, but for me right now it got boring fast, but the graphics and exploring are amazing. Just really hate the route they went with leveling. I prefer questing and more dungeons vs needing to do pvp, craft, or farm events which are all the same.
The two real questions:
1. Does the game have enough players to run the group dynamics and PvP as intended, and keep the players playing the game happy?
2. Is enough money being made to keep content updated, bugs squashed, servers open, and expansions coming?
Everything else is noise.

That having been said. Forums can be fun! What the kitten else am I to do at work 40 hours a week? WORK?!?!?!?! HAHAhAhA. I think not.
Well done ArenaNet!
I also believe, however, that the true test of an MMO is not the release, but 6 months after the release or one year later. An MMO is meant to be an ongoing service and the state of the game after the initial hype is important. Very successful MMOs even grow after their release.
ArenaNet has shown they can do that with GW1 (although it wasn’t a true MMO), I think they can do the same with GW2.
Arsenal has the truth of it. Those two points are really the most important things.
Once an MMO releases it has a very small window to capture fans (GW2 has been very successful) now it must keep them.
The price to play is about 4 months worth of a regular sub. So they got you for that even if you do leave. And its still plenty of time to address problems.

i have a few game hoppers in my group of freinds thay played GW2 love it but got to 80 and quit FOR NOW they fully plan on being here the week of the Halloween events and any new content to rush to the end just as quickly.
I on the other hand will look like a bad kitten when thay play again and be much better at the game than them :P

it dose when every one get’s home from work \o/
With no sub this game may go through low spells but any addition to content will always bring an influx of old players back as there is no sub and it’s not a typical FTP, so if ANet stay on the ball this game hasn’t really got any competition.plus fix a few issues and to be honest it’s the best mmo out there,no pandas for starters.
I don’t understand what the point of this thread is. There is no point. Guild Wars 2 is not a dying game… It’s been seven years since Guild Wars was released and there are still thousands of people playing it. Hell, there are people still playing Unreal Tournament 1999………………………
I think everyone in this forum needs to calm down. I can’t even navigate the forums without people wishing death upon Guild Wars 2. Sure, it’s not perfect, and sure I’d love for it to be more like the original Guild Wars, but the game literally, just came out.
ArenaNet is known to release extensive patches that change a significant portion of the game. So what if people quit? Who cares? Do you enjoy the game? Are you bored of it and wish it had more content or maybe better implementation? Then wait, like in every other MMO, for things to be updated.
I love the lack of subscription (one of the reasons I dropped WoW, besides their decline in difficulty). I look forward to GW2 expansions whenever they happen.
No endgame. Game is dead. It was fun while it lasted. Maybe elder scrolls online will dethrone wow. WoW is king sitting atop his mighty throne whilst the jackals beg for scraps. This game was promising. It had potential but a game is judged by its results and not its potential.
MoP is a blast and monks are fun to leve.

Then why are you on GW2 forums? Obvious troll is obvious

King if u like raiding,I don’t so for me wow died with BC.
According to forums all these games are dying, bleeding left and right, you name it – for years. Thus is the way and so it shall be – I’m gonna have a good time until then.
It’s probably a good thing no company releases all figures, people would be screaming their heads off all the time
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Interesting! Cuz it was the 5th highest selling game in the article, too.
And for kittens sake, stop with the “this is not a wow killer” crap. Why does every new MMO so desperately needs to be a wow killer to be succesfull? And if it isnt, it’s suddenly dying? Why do people have to choose which one is better? Is it so kitten impossible to have people like and play both games?
And if a game is not a “wow killer”, you leave it (even though you might enjoy it) and walk on to the next overhyped MMO in the hopes that that will be The One?
It’s not a war, people.
