So I’m looking at putting this together as many of the maps have absolutely stellar music. Anyone here happen to know who I would need to speak with to make sure I’m not breaking copyright / laws of Anet?

You might need to be a little more clear about what you’re doing and asking.

Are you extracting the music from the game, or talking about the official CD release? Are you doing this for personal use, to put up on YouTube, etc?

Most of the old maps music is from the OST which is available (for a lot of money) via EBay/Amazon or on YouTube which has a vid for each track. The new stuff is on SoundCloud courtesy of ANet and the composers. You’ll just be duplicating what’s already out there for public consumption.

Hmm, wiki says you can buy the OST from DirectSong. Either that’s an old note resurfacing during the current revamp, or it needs to be amended. The reason the OST costs so much is that you can’t buy it from the source any more (and you were lucky if you could when it came out, thanks to the company’s horrid record of not actually sending CD’s to purchasers or refunding them for the non-sent music). But you can hear it all on YouTube.

If it was a get-rich-quick scheme then the answer would have been yes, you absolutely would have been breaking copyright laws by taking out the game music and making money by selling it. … ok, maybe not absolutely, I’m not a copyright attorney. But I’m pretty darn sure you can’t make money off other people’s art without their permission.
