With the direction Guild Wars 2 is heading, I must say I have been off it for the last 5ish months. All I did was roam wvw as a thief and I loved it to bits, until they nerfed thief that one too many times and now its just not as fun anymore. I miss the days I could solo 2v1 or even 3v1 with many weaponsets. Now its far harder and the sets are so nerfed that sometimes downright impossisble, especially against certain profession combos. Granted it was hard and required skill, but it was doable. And here come the list of whiners…

Anyways, that’s not what this thread is about. This is about the cancelled Guild Wars campaign titled GW Utopia.

How many of you, given where Gw2 is heading would like to see that released. You know finally finished [the way the original dev team would have] and playable.

I have been back playing some Gw1 lately and i miss it dearly. It was a true masterpiece

Edit: to all people thinking I wanted Utopia implemented into Gw2, you’re wrong. I would like it released back into the Gw1 game

-snip- until they nerfed thief that one too many times and now its just not as fun anymore a lot less broken. -snip-

incoherence aside, i would not want to see a canceled guildwars campaign injected into gw2.. maybe certain elements if they blended into the current lore

i can outswim a centaur!
when i’m done on an issue
i start talking in nerglish

I still play GW1 on and off, and I’d love to see Utopia finally realized in GW1, with any relevant lore changes slid as seamlessly as possibly into GW2.

Didn’t it become Eye of the North, particularly the Tarnished Coast area? We probably see much of its influence in our own game in that area.

I think I may have heard something to that effect.

afaik parts of utopia were included in eotn. utopia by itself would probably make no sense after war in kryta and winds of change.

Parts of it were intregrated into EotN.

But I would love to see in GW2 finally bnack, what EotN added to the world.

I want to explore those areas again, that EotN added, like the Tarnished Coast, the areas around Northern Shiverpeaks and the Eye of the North, the Charr Homelands and so on.
I want to see all of the GW1 Dungeons back in GW2 how they are now 250 years later and if not designed as Group Dungeons, then at least as explorable zelda like Solo Dungeons to give players just some kind of nice nostalgia to explore those old ruins that were once dungeons for their hidden treasures that you might find in them when you go explore them.

I would love to see under a Sub Class System the concept of the Chronomancer gettign implemented as a Sub Class for the Mesmer, as the Mesmer in GW2 already has a touch of Chronomancer with their Time Warp Elite… wold just feel so right, if you could specialize your mesmer into a full Chronomancer Sub Class, as the Chronomancer normally would have become a new playable class in GW1, if they would have brought out Utopia as full campaign.

Same as much as what a Summoner would be a good Sub Class for the Elementalist, which wold have become under GW Utopia the second new playable class that was under design for that. There exist also concepts about Bards, which would be another perfect Sub Class for Mesmers.

Just copy pasting Utopia into GW2 doesn#t work, but redesigning and integratign as good as possible the various concepts of Utopia into GW2, that does work and would fit so well to improve the games super stagnant character progression system, which is why I so strongly am behind my idea for GW2 gettign Sub Classes to get this way to see the good concepts of Utopia getting implemented also in a way how the concepts would fit into the game…

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

@Orpheal
I like your ideas, especially the GW1 dungeons back as soloable content. I’d love to have sections of the Catacombs, maybe those further west of the current dungeon, back and soloable as well.

If we ever get around to fighting Jormag, I imagine most of the old EotN areas will be opened up for exploration. Down in Sparkfly Fen, for example, we have the sites of the old Bloodstone Caves and Bogroot Growths dungeons – I think that Inquest post in the southeast of the zone is on or close to where Bloodstone once was, and the general area of Bogroot’s old location is, of course, now home to many hylek tribes both friendly and hostile. Shards of Orr, home to the (in)famous Bone Dragon Staff, was east of where the Grove now is and is either underwater or behind the Great Wall of the tengu. I believe the Central Transfer Chamber (and I wonder why it’s not on the map considering that it was cleansed of Destroyers during EotN and is presumably still the hub of the Asura gate network) is somewhere in Frostgorge Sound. The site of Oola’s Lab is to the west of Rata Sum, in an area that is theoretically available for exploration at a future date – my own headcanon is that Oola moved her digs to their current location after EotN. For that matter, Alcazia Tangle, where Tarnished Haven once was, is still there southeast of Rata Sum, though half-flooded – I don’t see why it couldn’t be opened in due course as a new front in the campaign against Mordremoth as its minions swarm the area in an attempt to attack the Asura and Sylvari metropolises.

I could do without Utopia. What I want is them to finish GW;Beyond.

What happened to Evennia? Show us the founding of Ebonhawke!
What did the lunatic court get up to? What about Palawa Joko?

Seriously, GW:Beyond was AMAZING and only made with a few devs and spare change. How can they make such great content like the War in Kryta and Winds of Change with so little, then push out nothing but stupid gem store items with a full team of devs?

As far as I understand it from what I’ve read most of the setting, art work, new enemies etc. from Utopia were used in Eye of the North and some of the mechanics and profession ideas were added to GW2.

If I remember correctly from the one time I got to see a friends copy of the Making Of GW2 book (that came with the Collectors edition) one of their big ideas was to do something like the Dynamic Events system – quests for groups of players to do together that would have a lasting effect on the area, for everyone not just those who did the quest. But it proved to be impossible with the tech they had for GW1 and that’s what got them talking about making a sequel instead.
