Guild Wars? Where, I can't find? Wrong name?
Apparently “Guild Wars” is more about the lore than the actual GvG feature, or so I’ve read repeatedly, part of me feels this to be a bit of a cop out since I believe GvG was a signature aspect of the original and helped made that game popular. I would really like for them to add this.
How is it a “cop out”? “Guild Wars” was a series of events in the game’s history, whereas Guild Battles are GvG.

I’m not saying I don’t miss GvG, but they are different terms entirely.
Because Guild wars, was named after a major event that had happened many many years before the first one, That too did not have GvG, until faction wars expansion
I liked GvG as much as the next guy, but GW1 was named after The Guild Wars historical lore-related event, as linked above. Guild Wars 2 is in the same universe and is a direct sequel to the first, and so carries the same name. That’s not an excuse, that’s what happened. If you want GvG, that’s a fine suggestion and one day ANet may implement it, but citing the name of the game as the sole reason for its inclusion is, err, well, unconvincing.
The OP’s comment is really again on why the premium PvP mode fro GW1 was left out of GW2.
I simply don’t know what Anet were thinking.

Where are you getting all this wrong information from?
Prophecies had GvG and (faction wars?) Factions was a campaign not an expansion.
GW2 won’t have GvG because there isn’t enough skill diversity. (Or healers.)
GvG is very close to tPvP right now, with the exceptions that nowadays, party size is smaller, and the objectives of the game style are different. It seems clearly intentional on ANet’s part to have shrunken the party size. It is possible that one day certain parts of the game will implement greater sized parties, but I don’t think we’ll see any such changes until a major expansion comes out; that is a very significant core change.
The Devs have said for years that GvG was not going to be in GW2. I think they are trying to keep the sPvP compliant with an E-sport format and technically WvW is GvG.

Not sure if trolling or not. Like the other guy posted

Yes Prophecies had GVG.. GVG =/= The Guild Wars. The Guild Wars are the events outlined in that wiki article and where the game gets its name from. If you read the article you will clearly see that the events occured before the events of Prophecies. Do you get it yet?
I’m all for GvG in gw2, and im confident that it will return at some point.
Where is….
Guild versus Guild, also known as GvG or Guild Battle, is a strategic form of PvP which matches two teams of eight players from different guilds against each other in the Guild Halls.
Players from GW miss this… New players will never expirience adrenalin in guild fights, making strategies in guild hall and they will never know why we love GW and why we start playing GW2…

C’mon ANet, this is not Guild Wars if you dont have GvG!!!
Who is with me?
The bold is the reason why there is no GvG in GW2. GvG takes place in guild halls and as of right now there are no guild halls in GW2. Anet has already stated that they will be adding guild halls and player housing in the future. Maybe when guild halls come out GvG will also happen.
