Q:

I’ll make it plain.

Suggestion: Enable Guilds to declare War on each other

Such a War would start by a Guild (Guild A) challenging another Guild (Guild B )
If Guild B accepts the challenge the war starts
Once the war started members of Guild A and Guild B can kill each other.
You can only kill members outside Saveheavens (Saveheavens are The Main Cities of each Race, WvW,PvP, dungeons…you get the idea).
Killing Members of the enemy Guild gives Points.
Killing specific mobs that are scattered trhough the whole PVE world grants points to the Guild that kills them.
Accomplishing Specific events that are created for Guild Wars give points.
You can try to stop the other Guild by attacking them before they succed in accomplishing a event.
The first Guild to reach a certain amount of points wins.

Obviously some Guild are not big enough to make a war on the entire PVE zone therefore when declaring the war it should be made possible to choose a Batlle Ground and Battlegrounds should be divided into 3 sizes.

Small-a specific zone (example: Timberline Falls)
Medium-a region (example: Kryta)
Big- The Entire map (this one is self exmplaining)

Ps: I looked for a similar post but could not find any. If there is anything like this already posted sorry for the spam. Also is this the right location to post this?

long answer: open world pvp is not necessary, that would be best kept to some kind of instance that a guild could que into instead. And trying to utilize the entire game-world for it would be a waste of time.

Special Learning Time!: The name “Guild Wars” has nothing to do with player guilds fighting eachother, it was a name created for the old guilds that occupied tyria who were at war already (Kryta, Ascalon, etc.)

I believe I saw a thread yesterday on this same topic that got locked. Unfortunately an open world PK environment would just help facilitate abuse to new, ignorant guilds and guilds without many skilled high level players. Imagine being a level 20 or 30 player who just started the game a few weeks ago at most. Then imagine you join a guild because one of your friends who is a veteran player in the guild invited you. You go along your business as usual in a field then what happens is you get PKed. You try and go back to the heart or whatever other activity you were doing and the player is there again to kill you. If the way the friends list works stays the same then the person could even hunt you down wherever you’re at because of the way friends are tracked. You would either be forced to set your status to offline, leave the guild, stay in a safe instance or fight them off every time they showed up. This entire situation is only taking into account 1 player harassing you, let alone an entire 400 member guild.

Sounds like a funny new Guild-Mission to me.

And if you personally don’t like it, you can easily avoid being involved: Do not represent the guild while it is at war. But you should only be able to change that while in a save place or during login and you should be able to not represent a guild without leaving it (I think this is currently only possible if you have an alternative guild to represent, but it should then always be possible.)

Well, I say that like if you have someone in your friendlist but the friend’s server is against yours then you cant contect him while he is in WvW as well as it just says WvW in the friendlist, so just take that mechanic for the GvG.

And what you mentioned about people harrassing you in lower lv, all you do is get a friend in the guild to come kill him or divert him to another location using deception.

You must admit that WoW’s open world pvp was very good, like if you flew into a goblin port with your human then they will kill you and kill you fast.

WoW players would get this: I took my lv 90 worg war and flew other the wall with my priffin to the tauren’s starting area and killed all the tauren; including the higher lv gaurds/wardens, and espesialy the new tauren players and no one could stop me MOHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!

if i have to repeat my self for the countless amount of times why it’s a horrible idea then i wonder how good ppl’s search ability is.
open world PvP is bad no matter how you slice it, it creates a hostile world that ends up being a nightmare to manage.
the abuse, the toxicity, the harassment, the huge amount of spam that comes out of this.
and i have not even talked about how full the report list becomes, the amount of ppl leaving the game because of this.

you see only good in this, go beyond that and you see the ugly side of this.
it’s not a matter of ignoring something or avoiding it, even when your guild is not at war how would you like it when you get about 20 mails and whispers from other guilds challenging you every….single……DAY!

oh and btw, while some members like the war, others might not, do you seriously expect them to just abandon the guild they hav bin in for about 2 years or more?

There are three problems with opt-in GvG that takes place in the open world:

  • We will still see griefing, spamming, other sorts of verbal ‘abuse’ — that’s the nature of some of the personalities that enjoy PvP. Just enough will step over the line to make it unpleasant for those who just want to PvE.
  • It will take massive design/coding changes to allow PvP in the current open world, which has no provision for it. The smallest issue: some skills are differently balanced in PvP — how do those get handled in open world PvP?
  • It will take some design/coding changes to enable the challenge system and ANet won’t get it right the first two times (more because it’s the nature of these things to evolve with the game, a little because ANet often socks [sic] in UI, especially for something like this. Source: LFG tool).

So, while I’m not against the concept of guilds challenging guilds for dominance, I don’t think it’s going to be good for the community to sacrifice the required dev/design time to make this happen.

tl;dr there’s a good idea somewhere here, but the original proposal is almost certainly too costly to be considered as posted.

open world PvP is bad no matter how you slice it If anyone has to feel constantly threaded this is likely true. But I do not see that for a limited time and limited group of people, that voluntarily decided to to that.

how would you like it when you get about 20 mails and whispers from other guilds challenging you every….single……DAY! If others want to mail you they can mail you, if there is such a thing like this proposal or not. And do not forget that GvG (in WvW/Obsidian/EotM) is already possible. How many GvG request do you get today?
If you implement it intelligently, you do it as guild mission, that has to be unlocked and build before you can be asked. If you activate it after you build it you get a list of all other guilds that build it as well to choose an opponent from. If you don’t want it never build it.

while some members like the war, others might not in GW2 you can choose to not represent a guild without leaving it, when you are in more than one guild. In case such a guild mission would be added, this should probably be extended, such that you can not represent a guild, even if this is your only one.

No. Its not wanted here. The game isn’t designed for it. And is something that most players object to.

If you want a GvG war, got to OS. There is a whole arena there to do just that. People use it all the time. Plus, if I understand correctly, HoT will have some sort of GvG. But it will be kept out of the open world, as it should be.

Now can we please close this thread. It’s going to turn into another nasty argument using the same reasoning as every thread before it. And in the end nothing will be decided, and every pro open world PvP person will say the same things. Thanks!

Be forced into it would be bad, but I did not see that asked.

On the other side I imagine me as someone who is by chance in an area where these to guilds do their gvg-guild mission. I would enjoy watching them, and maybe interfere from time to time (of course booth cannot do anything to me, beside maybe luring some mobs to me), e.g. rezzing a downed, killing mobs that rally them, giving hints where opponents are hiding, ….

I think I would have a lot of fun watching them and from time to time I would have fun doing it, as I have fun watching and interfering with current guild missions.

If you answer the location of the wanted or help killing him in a bounty hunt you interfered with it. Or the other way around, watching out of save distance how he kills the guild.
If you guard a player in a guild rush or run yourself for the chest you interfered with it.

One problem. There’s WvW for that, and even include Open world PvP Anet would have to make a PvP only server which makes the mega servers useless because the main purpose of the Megaserver in the first place was to put players from different instances of the same server into one map, not strip that away because a group wants to GvG in Queensdale.

You then go on to say “It was really fun YOLO”. This is the main reason people don’t want this here. I want dueling and/or open world PvP too but problems other than a troll attitude exist. What about scaling up an event you are fighting near and don’t participate in for an example? What I’m really hoping for is for some sort of pvp to be tied to your guild hall but I’m not gonna get my hopes up.

I would really like to explain why WoW was so popular and is and will most diffinately be known for one of the best MMOs known to gaming but it would be to much effort than what Im willing to pute in atm
