I was watching this video yesterday about the new guild jumping puzzle. Which is something I enjoy; but I have to join a larger guild who have themselves well established in order to do them. My guild is rather small, and it would take a long time before we could access anything of that caliber. Yet this is besides the point. So far most of the guild mission content has been off beat timed mini co-operative games. Which is not a bad thing. Nevertheless after watching that video and listening to the idea to have primary story content being driven by such mechanics, has me questioning future guild content.

If it’s a side story to the primary content it would not be too detrimental. The living story so far has been technically a sub-plot line to the rest of GW2. Yet if it uses primary story driven elements dealing exclusively with guild content then I know people who will miss out. Not to mention if there is guild content that furthers a players advancement in their own personal story or an understanding of it. I doubt that A-net would create this type of gated content.

Guild Wars: Factions sort of did this by extending out the party limitations (albeit in arbitrary ways) for certain PvE section of the game. In spite of these mechanics there were some who never fully completed the PvE side of Factions. Either because they had time limitations or could never get a group large enough (people or AI (hero/henchmen)) to accomplish these sections of the game. This created two problems. People would have no knowledge of what occurred in Factions (continuity wise to the rest of the GW universe), and parts of the game became limiting because of the diminishing player population. Only specialized guilds and those who could tolerate the flimsy AI would be able to clear these obstacles. Hopefully none of the above will repeat itself in the near future, if some guild content becomes heavily story driven.

Also I noticed that there was mention of “guild housing” (AKA guild halls) being tied in with the merit system, and I was wondering how people felt about this?

IDC if I have to kitten out each and every one of my characters on the corners of lions arch and pay a stack of merits and 100k influence for a guild hall… I would do that and more…

The question is if you had to use merits to unlock guild hall, instead of using influence to unlock them. It would mean of course people will have to accomplish guild missions on a regular basis in order to unlock them. If they were implemented in that way.

Well, to be fair, with a name like Guild Wars, I came in expecting more importance on guilds. I do think more options should be open to smaller guilds though, such as my own.

You can always align yourself with another couple larger guilds then invite members of those guilds over as a “bounty” tier of members with no access to anything but that can come over and do guild stuff with you guys to help with your numbers issues, there are a lot of people that are generally more than willing to come help with stuff like that because they will have missed when their guild has done it or may not be able to make it to their guild’s weekly whatever and wanna get their reward real quick.

I understand that’s not an ideal solution, but it’s a very viable one that I’ve seen work personally with the guilds I’m in.

Ive been meaning to. I have one guild slot open, but I have no idea how to find a good one. I already tried joining one big guild as they did a bounty quest, but I got shafted out of the reward and no one even feigned caring, so I left. Id love to find a big sociable guild to join though so I can stop soloing, but I have no idea how.

I’ve started to notice that trend now. Not so much people they know, as much as random people who are just interested in the reward. They kind of turned it into a guild recruitment tool. However sometimes it works and other times it does not. The interesting set ups are the multiple guild that all function together as one cluster to accomplish some of these missions. An unofficial alliance system that is external to GW2 itself. Just like the LFG site being a unofficial grouping tool outside of the game.

It seems the community adepts to these situations sometimes quite nicely. My thoughts though turn future prospects if the features I mention earlier do get put in.. Will people be grateful over the idea or will they be spiteful for it? I guess it comes down to when actually how the feature arrives (if it does). Since speculation only goes so far. Thanks for the feedback by the way.
