Anyone know at what time they update their daily sales in gem store?

I know i am SUPER excited about them offering up a special sale in the GEM store for a whole bunch of dyes (that I probably already have unlocked), and some other stuff i could care less about.

I agree with the OP about the Guild Wars 1 anniversaries being more fun, but I disagree with combining them with birthdays, since birthdays are different from the anniversary. The OP is combining different events.

Loyal and veteran are birthday titles for example and has nothing to do with the annivesary. Now it happens in Guild Wars 2 that the anniversary for many of us coincides with the birthday celebration but that’s just a matter of coincidence. For many people it’s not true.

That said, I think both birthdays and anniversaries felt better in Guild Wars 1. Even though I like the gem store returning items/sales thing, I’ve always thought there should be something in game like the birthday cupcakes.

And I’m certainly not as excited about the birthday gifts I get in Guild Wars 2.

I did say it just what people are thinking, and I am not. I just hope to come away with some nice kind of bargain on something, since i am still newish, there might be something nice.

I hope they release the grenth’s hood, one of my favorite style in gw2.

Its not like the anniversary date changes each year lol, they could have had something special planned, im fed up of seeing this same old excuse about the entire team is working on HoT, what will it be after HoT is released, or the entire team is working on a balance patch or the entire team is taking a break for 6 months, come on already, Stop making excuses.

Are we going to get stuff in game like events or items for the anniversary like nearly all other online rpgs do, even full F2P ones?

Sunday Aug 23, the added sale item is Balthazar Outfit 30% off (490 gems instead of 700).

So that is the first discount during the sale.

I bought 5k gems with gold during the last weeks, didnt spend anything yet.
But i am not really looking for anything specific going on sale either.

They didn’t do anything for the first two anniversaries other than a Gem Shop event, why would anyone think it’ll be different this time? Don’t care what they did in GW, I never played GW but I’ve been here long enough to experience the previous anniversaries.

If this was such and issue then why wasn’t there some huge outcry during those two? I don’t remember seeing the hate that this one seems to be generating. The only difference is both times the LS was going on to distract the player base from the lack of a celebration.

We definitely need proper anniversaries like in GW1 and/or more reoccurring holidays. I came back to GW1 for it’s 10th anniversary after not having played GW for more than a year. It was great! Last but not least it was one reason (HoT and the BWE the other) that I also returned to GW2.

Only adding some (old) stuff to the gem stop is pathetic.

Yet that is what they did the previous years.

If they do non bundled character slot sale, I’ll be happy. Anything else I don’t really see myself spending money on even if on sale.

Feel free to list some real world examples where the term “Sale” as a limited time event wasn’t implying discounts (usually with the intent to clear room for new stock) without explicitly implying a limited run of an item itself.

Aka “Black Friday Sale” vs “U2 tickets are now on sale!”

Imagine if the Steam Summer Sale one year was simply their entire catalog available at full price, nothing more but with all the same fanfare. People would would be out for blood and worse.

Same goes for those “Year End Sales Event!” type of ads you see for car brands. Do you really think they are just saying “hey, come in to the showroom and buy a 2015 model at full price right before we put out the 2016’s for essentially the same amount”? Of course not. They may try to swindle you into paying that much but they will be explicitly advertising deals and special financing in order to clear lots for the new models.

For someone who claims others need to “learn English”, you seem to lack a basic understanding of context as well as the cultural understanding of the concept of a “sale” as a special event.

ANet and NCSOFT always had a special relationship going back to when a fledgling NCSOFT bought them back in 2002. South Korea was going nuts over Starcraft and here a one hit wonder hires via buyout some of the developers behind Blizzard’s biggest hits.

There is a rather persistent rumor that NCSOFT can’t close ArenaNet, that they can only sell it and the Guild Wars IP off with the founders having the first crack at it.

ArenaNet used a different 3rd party company for GW2 in China than who NCSOFT uses for the rest of their stable of MMOs. ArenaNet hired it’s own PR firm for the launch of GW2 in 2012 and not use the one that NCSOFT had used previously for NA/EU releases. ArenaNet publicly corrected the reported expansion plans announced in two NCSOFT investor conference calls in 2012 and 2013. So they seem from the outside as rather independent from Seoul.

So no, the separation has always been there. The realization that their Asian developed games don’t do well in the West while their Western developed games don’t do well in Asia may have led NCSOFT to create the holding company which now owns Carbine, ArenaNet and their NCSOFT NA and EU group that handles distribution in the west, which then NCSOFT owns. It does make all it’s western operations a single entity on the corporate flowchart. The holding company is run by NCSOFT’s CEO’s wife, who is a very impressive woman.

Yep, I love when games go all out and do real anniversary parties.
It’s all fluff but very fun and I find myself looking forward to it most times.

The thing is though companies like Anet can not bring on everyone. There are all specialists. For example, I am a web programmer. Sure, I could be loaned to the applications team if something they did were that much of a rush priority. Even though I know some of it they would not want to put me in networking because that is not my specialty.

The people who would be doing an anniversary are more the designers than the programmers.

I don’t think the gemstore team is in a bubble, and most gemstore items are probably touched by people that do alot of other things as well.
Like designing non-gemstore stuff for the expansion. For the actual game, not the store.

This logic always cracks me up. If there’s something good for sale, then you get to spend gems on an awesome item.

If there isn’t something good on sale(that you want) you get to save money/gold/gems.

Hmm, that is an idea. Maybe they are targetting it at newer players? hHich would fit since older players want things like more character slots, not things they bought or passed on the first time unless they missed them.

Oh well, the advantage is I get to save up for character slots since so far the only thing I wanted was the staff skin. Maybe a close second would be some more transmutation charges if the price is right.

I was wondering if they could bring back the phantom helmet.

There is also a Chickenado Finisher at half price (so 400 gems). I almost bought it since I think it’s adorable but since I stomp a foe once in a blue moon and the finisher is big, loud, noisy, and spinny, I decided to save the gems for something of more general use to me.

Do we have a thread tracking the daily offerings without too much side discussion so people can quickly check what’s available? Or is someone updating a wiki page?
