Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?
Taunts are CC, not aggro.
Its just another CC that will be handeled like CC we have, which means bosses will deal with it via cc immunities of various kinds.
I agree, with almost everything. We need more than three options, more like 5-7 by my count. Condi, dps, support, tank, controll.
A vast majority of the playerbase complains about the PVE in this game. Most people do not like the fact that everyone has to run zerkers and it’s all about doing as much DPS as possible. A lot of people complain about this to ANET. The only way they could possibly fix this is make tanking/healing viable so that not everything is a dps-fest.
With the introduction of a 6 second taunt on revenant, and class specializations, specifically druid ranger, I’m hoping anet is moving towards the holy trinity. This would open up so many more options for types of gameplay and builds. I know anet started out not wanting a trinity but in reality, you need it in MMOs or everything will just be DPS-fest.
In this video there is a bar under the NPCs health that changes when it is being taunted by the player. Is this a new sort of aggro system? I truly hope so.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7zkWJxYqUATo all that are going to say you don’t want tanks/healers, then you also can’t complain about everyone running zerkers and dps spamming through dungeons, because that’s what we got for not having a trinity.
First, you don’t know or speak for the vast majority of the playerbase.
Second, going full trinity isn’t even close to the only way they could “fix” the zerk/dps meta.
Third, Taunt in GW2 does not function like Taunting abilities do in trinity MMOs.

Someone is in denial. Every day I see people saying how garbage the pve is on reddit, these forums, and in-game map chat. at pax they say they hope the expansion will bring “pve content that isn’t terrible”.
Challenging pve is not related to trinity look at Vindictus. Content should support different spec not just the raw damage role look at conditions. PvE is easy and doesn’t promote much teamplay, dungeon crawlers have better pve not because it’s instanced but because the dungeon is designed for a fix number .
Even if trinity happens it could small group = different roles , big group = dps with few support. The content just need to support them, tanks and healers exist already just give them wide scale counter where they are needed same with conditions, design the content to dominate zergs/stackers bring the E in pve not just mobs.

it’s because satisfied players don’t run to forums.

Can you read though? I also said map-chat. I don’t think mapchat is a part of the forums.
Yes, a portion of the player base does like trinity playstyle. And a portion does not like it or want it. Yet another portion just doesn’t want it in this game.
And I don’t see this GW2 Taunt as any step towards a trinity play style. It’s a CC.
Vocal minority what can i say, the pve is decent you dont have to be a zerker its just the quickest way

The “they” you are speaking of from PAX was that one guy that said that in the audience.
Reddit is more garbage than any PVE in any game, ever. Forums, here or reddit, have a tendency to attract more people who are unhappy than they do those that are happy. Forum posts are not representative of the majority of the playerbase. Those who post on the forums are a very small percentage of the whole playerbase.
I have seen and talked to countless people in and out of game who enjoy the game very much. Does that mean the “vast majority” enjoy it? No. Nobody can say what the vast majority of players think. Period.
Guild Wars 2 isn’t moving towards a holy trinity. It wouldn’t even work in Guild Wars 2
A holy trinity would be the opposite of diversity anyway.
After reading many threads on trinity, I’m inclined to think that those advocating for it simply cannot cope with having to adapt and choose any role on the fly depending on the group and the encounter. They perceive freedom as shallowness, and they are dead set that “gear” equals “build”. They want to be handheld, spoonfed and pigeonholed so that they do not have to make their own thought-out decisions, and only then will they be happy… until the moment they realise that they’re back to waiting for healers and raging at dumb tanks and every fight looks like the other one, and even then it will be someone else’s fault and not the system’s.
So yes, I have no problems with “zerker meta” and yes, I do not complain about it on forums or in map chat.

GW2 does not have a trinity, will not have a trinity, and does not need a trinity. There are other games you can play if you want that thing.

It’s not about trinity, it’s making other stats/effects relevant, create actual challenge, stop stacking, encourage positioning .Some stats/specs/conditions should be more effective in some encounters and so on not the same for all, trinity has nothing to do with.
No worries a hard trinity won’t and can’t happen.

That’s the new defiance bar, which is related to CC. Nothing related to aggro. Guild Wars 2 already has an aggro system, but players can not manipulate it with threat from skills, and that will likely never change.

It’s the symbol used for unshakable, it’s pretty easy to tell.

Oh boy, there never is a point to attempt to debate with someone pro-trinity.
Here we go with everyone chiming in on the forums disagreeing with everything any poster has ever said. I, however am all for a trinity or a group wide healing build. I dont really care how “pro” you claim to be or “you need to learn damage mitigation and dodge better”, stop before you even start. this is a game based on aoe damage, and face tanking just like ever other major mmo. There shouldve been a healing build at launch. My 2 cents.

Dodging and avoiding damage =/= face tanking. Everyone can heal themselves anyway. The game was advertised as no holy trinity on almost every site that talked about it, it’s your own fault if you came to Guild Wars 2 wanting to play a tank or a healer.
My healing signet only works when im ooc not during a fight, and i can only click it once and hope im not getting smacked hard whereas a dedicated healer would have me covered so i can get back in the fight. I really dont understand the opinion of not having a healer since this game is a meta build anyway. im not expecting anything but if you feel this game has no need for a healer, youre sadly mistaken. There are some situational fights (lupi for example) where a healer should be a mandatory meta. Why are you defending the no healer argument? State some factual evidence instead of trying to condescend me for playing.

Believe it or not, the holy trinity actually promotes anti-diversity, as it is just another meta, but it is a less accessible meta. Everyone can play all roles is the point of Guild Wars 2 system. And, healing signet? That heals constantly, not just OOC. If you want to have a healer in your party, that’s fine, you can make your own party using the LFG tool to play with people you want (just like everyone else does). Punishing everyone that bought the game because it had no holy trinity, certainly isn’t the way to go about it.

I agree with this, but i dont want to have a holy trinity where im forced into one of three strict builds in this game at all.
Support-stats and condition damage should be more viable in group builds, but please without the kittening trinity. I prefer to find my own mix of stats, build hybrids etc.. This isnt exactly viable in the current meta, but it would be even less in a trinity. I’d hate to see that happen.
There are many reasons why PvE is kitten and a lot of them dont have anything to do with the game having no trinity.
Also, 6 second taunt? Sounds broken as hell and hopefully that never makes it into the release version.
Gunnar’s Hold
I think this was covered in the third post, guess we have to go over it again.
this taunt is not like traditional MMO taunting It doesn’t change the aggro table, except the proximity marker. It’s a very limited form of CC, with very specific advantages and disadvantages.
There’s really not much else to say beyond that. In many cases, a 3s stun or a 3s daze would be better than a 3s taunt (since the victim can’t attack at all). It’s not that its useless or won’t have some potentially really crazy good effects (sometimes you really wanna force that baddie to move), but it’s going to take work to get as much effectout of it.
…

Okay youre clearly misreading my statements, im saying theres a definite purpose having a healing meta not necessarily a holy trinity. Secondly no one is pushing anyone and you dont represent the entire player base as there are alot of people that would enjoy playing a healing based proffession so again not really sure where your source is coming from that its not as accessible. and the healing signet is worthless as you always take more incoming damage than it heals per second.

I don’t play much pve so I don’t really care enough to complain, but I probably would play it more if I could play it as a healer role because I would find that more fun than autoattacking a boss for 10 minutes while alt-tabbed because it’s that braindead simple.

That’s what dodging and moving around is for.
I play an elementalist. I don’t have a healing signet like warriors do. I have a signet that grants me healing per cast, but that’s less than a warriors per second. And warrior signet is active while stunned, etc. Elementalists aren’t. Because we aren’t casting.
If I’m actually moving around and dodging, I rarely need a heal. And if I do, my heal covers me. And I don’t use my healing signet. Because I prefer my glyph.
And even if I’m not moving around and dodging like I should, my heal still covers me.
So no, I’m not seeing this need for a dedicated healer.

Yea thats easy for you to say when youre speaking from a ranged dps opinion, you get to safely dps a boss where as a melee dps is standing in the hit box to dps a boss and cant get out of large aoe fast enough.

Yes im aware theres other active heals that heal you ONE time. Or remove a condition ONE time. Then they go on cooldown for X amount of seconds.

Ah, this sort of thread is always a classic.
In any event, the holy trinity does not ‘solve’ the problems you or most others arguing for a trinity or against the ‘zerk meta’ describe.
- In trinity MMOs, it’s always about doing as much DPS as possible. The only times it isn’t are due to specific fight mechanics such as phase transitions. Even tanks and healers make every decision about their build with a view towards increasing the group’s overall DPS.
- Trinity MMOs do not permit any added gear or build variety — you’ll always be using some pre-ordained meta build and gear set for your class, and if you aren’t, it will be because you don’t have whatever it is you ‘should’ be using, and are instead using ‘acceptable filler’. Or because you’re so highly-regarded that you’re able to tell everyone else what to wear. You may recognise this as essentially the situation in GW2 today.
- Look at any trinity MMO’s LFG, and you’ll find lots of runs demanding gear that’s seventy levels higher than the content, or threatening kicks at the first mistake. Why is it suddenly bad when someone asks for an all-zerk group?
- I’m not going to go into all of the scenarios in trinity MMOs where players would rather adhere rigidly to their roles than ever actually think.

You’re assuming I’m not a dagger/dagger Elementalist now aren’t you?
I don’t move around and dodge as much as I should. If the enemy is a melee, I’m 90% in melee range. Scepter/Dagger has to get pretty close for the dagger skills as well. And even when I’m using staff, I’m in melee range. Because in PvE, it’s not that dangerous.
Not to mention in dungeons, due to the benefits of stacking related to boons and rezzing, I’m in melee range in dungeons as well.
And as an elementalist, I can go pretty darn close to full healer with the right traits. And I can still primarily attack the boss. That’s what I call amazing. Not having to sit around and hope that my team members are bad enough to need me to heal them because they aren’t using their dodges and aren’t moving around appropriately.

Lol you do realize you can only dodge twice in a row right? You must be super pro if you only need to heal yourself one time throughout an entire boss fight, like world class realm first mmo 5% of the entire player base type of pro. But remove my endurance bar and give me infinite dodge, i’ll have all the skill in the world.
My healing signet only works when im ooc not during a fight, and i can only click it once and hope im not getting smacked hard whereas a dedicated healer would have me covered so i can get back in the fight.
I suddenly have flashbacks of GW1, in which Monk players would often complain about Warrior players who thought they could just jump in the middle of combat and attack enemies mindlessly, assuming the healers would have infinite healing and do nothing else other than healing them.
You know there’s more than one warrior heal, right? It’s your own choice to take a passive heal over an active heal.
Yes im aware theres other active heals that heal you ONE time. Or remove a condition ONE time. Then they go on cooldown for X amount of seconds.
Which is all you need if you have enough skill at the game. If you feel a need to take a healer in your party, go for it, nothing is stopping you from making your own LFG party.

After reading many threads on trinity, I’m inclined to think that those advocating for it simply cannot cope with having to adapt and choose any role on the fly depending on the group and the encounter.
Yep. If in fact ANet is in the process of caving in to people who cannot appreciate the system they created, ANet’s transformation to the dark side will be complete. My guess is another unfortunate word choice on ANet’s part. Taunt has a specific meaning in an MMO context. By the description (Taunt is applied to X. X runs to its target and uses only its AA.), Taunt is not a trinity MMO aggro mechanic, it’s another CC. Its purpose is to reposition and hinder the target, not to take aggro away from another target.
Edit: As to the OP, any post claiming to speak for most players is making an error. Sure, there are players who dislike PvE and want trinity. There are also players who love PvE and who don’t want trinity.

Ive already watched all of nike’s videos and the problem with that is you have to make a specialized group build which takes significantly more time then needed. I think you need to play other real mmos for awhile and then comeback to gw2 to really grasp the situation and why having a zerker dominated meta is toxic for a game thats refuses to have a healer meta to heal them. This game supports “diversity, any proff any weapon” but has mostly 1 popular build. Anyway i can provide you with some other mmo’s if you need help getting educated as to why a healer should be implemented in a dungeon or pvp setting message me, if you need assisstance.

To be fair, that’s not all that amazing. If you ever see a healer standing around picking their nose while in a fight inside a dungeon, they’re either a bad player, or playing a bad game.
Strictly speaking, mesmers and guardians act as healers in a lot of content in GW2. It’s always about proactively keeping your team mates alive — in GW2, with things like aegis, projectile reflects, etc. — not about filling bars up.
Every day I see people saying how garbage the pve is on reddit, these forums, and in-game map chat. at pax they say they hope the expansion will bring “pve content that isn’t terrible”.
it’s because satisfied players don’t run to forums.
Can you read though? I also said map-chat. I don’t think mapchat is a part of the forums.
I see players every day complain this game is too hard. Therefore a majority of players must think that. Logical fallacy is false.
Aside from the fact that I don’t believe you see people in mapchat complaining about this every day (I play more hours than you, I can almost guarantee it) and maybe I see a complaint in map chat once a week.
There is no way you can claim you know what most of the playerbase wants, unless maybe you’re talking about the new trait system.
they created it so DPS was what you was supposed to care about, but gave us stats and gear sets that make it seem like they simply screwed up the balance. it just makes no sense, they either made more gear just for the hell of it, or they cant balance things worth a kitten …its one of the two
they need to either
A get rid of the useless crap they made knowing it was useless
or B balance things so these gear pieces they did not intend to be useless are useful.
- Look at any trinity MMO’s LFG, and you’ll find lots of runs demanding gear that’s seventy levels higher than the content, or threatening kicks at the first mistake. Why is it suddenly bad when someone asks for an all-zerk group?
yes because it’s not like people kick every single necro from dungeon parties or anything. The GW2 meta is just as toxic, actually it probably is even more toxic. Kicking people on last boss and classes like necro.

If you are still not able to go into the LFG tool and create a party, I am worried for you.

Yep. Because the game is designed around everyone being able to do everything themselves. Not having to have to a healer. Not having to have someone who can take a hit.
I don’t run full healer, but it’s a nice build to learn in if your skill level starts off low. Which is where I was when I started this game, as this was my first MMO. I ran darn near full healer when I first started. But I wasn’t doing dungeons then. Because I didn’t have the skill. My full healer purpose was to heal myself. I finally took the training wheels off and find I’m actually not having to heal as much as before.

You’re right, it’s NOT like people kicke very single necro from dungeon parties. Yes, necros will often be either kicked or asked to change to another toon if they try to join a high level fractal, maybe. But I’ve been kicked from a party maybe twice on my necro (my main). If you’re a good player and (most importantly) easy to get along with, odds are you won’t get kicked.

Lol this game is too easy if anything, there really is no hardmode for the hardcore players in this game. It just needs more balancing.
